Pre-Viking Scandinavian Knife with Bone Handle, 3rd -5th Century AD

The blade and curved profile are found on Iron Age knives from the Danish bog deposits, especially Vimose and Kragehul. The T-shaped pommel is remarkable, and replicates forms of sword pommel associated with 5th century swords.

Romano-British Sword, 1st Century AD

Found at Hod Hill in Dorset, England. Made of iron and copper alloy. In the past this sword has usually been identified as an Iron Age piece, dating from the years immediately before the Roman conquest but it is more likely to be a Roman sword to which Celtic fittings have been added.

Roman Amuletic Military Belt Mount Suite, Late 2nd-Early 3rd Century AD

The silver belt-mount suites with VTERE FELIX (“use with luck”) text are associated particularly with Roman troops in the Danubian region. The text was believed to be apotropaic, warding off harm from the wearer of the belt.

Rare Tetradrachm Signed By The Engraver Kimon

Excessively rare, a masterpiece and possibly one of the most beautiful Greek coins extant.

A silver tetradrachm signed by the master engraver Kimon circa 405-400 BC, from Syracuse, Sicily (Magna Graecia). Obverse: Head of Arethusa wearing pearl-shaped pendant and necklace over collier ornamented with pearls; hair flowing in loose tresses; across her forehead, ampyx (headband), on which is the signature KIMΩN. Around, two dolphins swimming among the locks and a snout of a third emerging from curls. Above, outside dotted border, APEΘOΣA. Reverse: ΣYPAK – OΣIΩN Fast quadriga (4-horse chariot) driven by a chiton-clad charioteer, holding kentron (horse goad or whip) and reins; above, Nike floating, holding wreath to crown the charioteer. Beneath the two further horses, an overset column (meta); in exergue, ear of barley.

Nonsensically Inscribed Sino-Siberian Knife, 1000-500 BC

An incredible example of the bronze work of the ancient Siberians, a cast bronze curved-blade knife with a ridged back and the pommel in the form of a moose head. The inscription makes no sense, indicating that the craftsman that made this knife was probably copying the inscription from a southern culture’s knife, most likely Chinese, but making it for the Siberian culture.
