Nameless:
Me:
Chapter 60: Heartbreak Boogaloo (Spoilers 🚨)
First off, I just wanna say, Nameless and Jihwa's interaction this chapter is just beautiful. Nameless can obviously see how frayed the other man is and he approaches the whole situation ever so calmly.
He doesn't see Jihwa as a noble, he sees him as this heartbroken man who's frantically trying to find a way to heal his broken heart, but is regretting the things he's doing as he is doing it. I think he already knows Jihwa's not going through with this, and Nameless is glad he's not. He sees the humanity left in him and for some reason, he cares about whether or not that humanity gets destroyed.
All the words he says are measured and intended to intensify Jihwa's already ever so heavy guilt.
He constantly reminds him that, "hey, you did that, remember? You asked for a murder. You're responsible for this. Face it. Are you capable of facing it and going through with it?" He is testing him, making him doubt himself further because of the constant reminder of his direct involvement in it.
Look at this tensionTM.
He suggests these nasty sounding actions to do to Nakyum, but I feel like his intention is to further scare Jihwa off it. Jihwa isn't a cold-blooded murderer, nor is he a torturer. Nameless can see that he has a heart, even though the man might not see Nakyum as someone worthwhile, he still sees him as someone. Someone that he has to make the active choice to kill or to permanently maim in brutal ways. These words are meant to make him uncomfortable, to make him really think about what he's going to do to another person. And with Jihwa's stomach, they might have worked in making him back off from his plan.
Ok, done with the serious talk. Now to the meme/jibberish thoughts dump
@me manifesting my ship. Seriously though, Nameless was only an inch or two off from devoring Jihwa's whole face. The only reason he's holding back is 'cuz Jihwa's in distress and he doesn't wanna get smacked.
Also, dude loves Jihwa's wrist apparently. How many time are you gonna grab at thing before you say fuck it and finally pin him down under you, boi?
What the heck is this, sir? I thought you finally said fuck it and just started stripping. But no, you were just "fixing" your clothes, huh? Why you gotta do it so slow and show off your boobage like that huh? Seriously tho, BD... What is this camera zoom?
I found a new favorite thing that I wanna frame: Jihwa be ᵗᶦⁿʸ in Nameless' clothes. Save the boy, he's drowning in that robe. Jihwa took one look at those boys wearing their bfs' oversized hoodies and went "Imma do that but with enough fabric to cover all of Ohio." It's too cute I can't-
*Jeopardy Thinking Music plays* Du du du dududu du du. Du du du du du dududududu.
(Also, R.I.P Alex Trebek)
Jihwa should fire Nameless as an assassin and hire him as lifestyle coach instead😂
Also translates to:
JW: So what iz it to ya if I’ve sought some attention from my ex?!?! You didn’t even give me the present I want in our anniversary!!!!!!!
NL: … 😒😒😒
JW: *is speechless*

Nameless, can you.. ugh 🤦🏻♀.. can you not fucking Y O I N K ? ? ? ? ❎❎❎ It’s fragile, rare item.
LMAO!!😂😂 This is the best description of their relationship that I've seen so far ♥️
Nakyum lovingly caressing Seungho’s cheek and looking at him with so much longing is the softest, most precious and hauntingly beautiful moment ever. This is the first time Nakyum touches Seungho like a real lover, not just a sex partner. He’s never touched him lovingly outside of sex or even during sex when he used to touch him the barest minimum: no little kisses, not little touches, only rare embraces,… Except for the first time when he mistook him for Inhun. Unlike Seungho who has always touched Nakyum like a real lover since the first night they slept together: kissing his back, ruffling his hair, caressing his cheeks,… as if he could never get enough of him.
It’s one of the reasons why he’s always been so frustrated - because he’s never received those touches from Nakyum and it’s tragic that now that he does, he can’t see it. The fact that Nakyum actually dares to touch Seungho like this shows how far he’s gone. He’s been touch-starved his whole life and didn’t know how to touch others lovingly. Until now and it’s Seungho who has taught him how.
When Nakyum realizes that it’s Seungho, the noble and powerful lord with an army of servants on his beck and call, has been cleaning him after filling with his cum, making sure he doesn’t become sick, he finally believes how much Seungho cares for him.
Nakyum’s been marginalized and neglected his whole life so it’s no wonder that he’s been blind to Seungho’s love and care that have been obvious to everyone else but him. He’s never been loved so it’s taken him such a long time to realize that someone loves him. All those memories of Seungho’s touches and actions are unchangeable truths that reveal to Nakyum that he’s been loved by Seungho since a very long time, that Seungho has always treated him as someone who’s impossibly precious to him, as a real lover.
Meanwhile, Nakyum’s tiny, dainty feet in his modest straw sandals of a lowborn next to Seungho’s huge, expensive nobleman’s shoes is a picture worth more than a thousand words. Just like their footwear, these two men couldn’t be more different, but they still fell in love with each other.
Seungho looks so young, soft and innocent, but also content and almost happy. The constant tension and furrowed eyebrows are gone. He’s finally at peace, sleeping like a baby. And it’s Nakuym who gave it to him, who makes him feel this good and safe. It’s heartbreaking that Nakyum has been literally torn away from Seungho’s arms just when they both finally opened their hearts to each other, after that beautiful night full of tenderness,… Just imagine Seungho waking up in the morning wiht his arms empty and Nakyum, his precious little lover, gone, it will break him, drive him mad with terrible pain because he might misunderstand Nakyum’s absence as rejection and abandonment right after he bared his heart to him.
Finally, my prediction: Nakyum is not wearing his cap and scarf when Jihwa sees him, so he might have lost it or managed to leave it behind as a trace for Seungho who, once he gets over the initial fear that Nakyum might have left him, may follow it,doing everything in his powers to find Nakyum despite his illness,
I can’t be the only one who thinks that these two are the modern version of Nakyum and Seungho right?
WE HAVE A SEUNG-HO AND A SEUNG-EON. COINCIDENCE? I THINK NOT.
find it pretty interesting that seungho and nakyum pretty much foil each other. While seungho was forced and abused to repress his homosexuality by his family of conservatives, nakyum was free from these discriminations due to the fact that he was raised in a brothel and had loving sisters that supported him.
And now that theyre adults, when seungho was free from his fathers grasp, he practically fucked anyone who so much approaches him while nakyum was repressed and conditioned from his sexual desires and painting once he was in inhuns custody.
Remember the time when we thought Byeonduck wanted to draw a runny nose and we all thought she’d draw Seungho with it?
Well, joke’s on us. ‘Twas Na-Kyum all along. Holy flickflack. She’s having a damn jolly time trolling all of us, she might as well be Minbrows in terms of characters 😂
She's been plotting everything in advance! She already had it planned out how she's gonna ruin us from the start! And she's enjoying this so fucking much!
What a queen. She can step all over our hearts and we still eagerly wait for more pain and suffering each Friday 😭
I didn't choose to be this masochistic to ByeonDuck's storytelling, it chose me. POTN chose me.
It's a privilege really😌
Y’all, I just want to inform you that Baekjong class, or the lowborns, were not allowed to have topknots in Joseon Korea
That is why Nameless has his hair like that, on top of being a thief. Na-Kyum’s is because he has no family, bc hair is a symbol of their familial roots, and if your hair is cut off, either you have disgraced your family, have been disowned, have committed a crime, or had no family to begin with
Seungho’s topknot had been cut off bc of his homosexuality, and Jihwa’s topknot seemed to have been cut off by Seungho, for something he had done two years ago. From what I have gathered, only the king, and fathers of families can do that, not nobles of the same age group. Jihwa must have done something so severe to Seungho that he cut off his topknot
*consumes this post info so I won't be shocked as much in the future*
He probably didn't even have to do anything that severe just made a remark about Seungho's hush-hush Lord Song situation and how Seungho was being a dick about it, so Seungho in all his asshole glory flew into a rage and cut off Jihwa's topknot coz fuck you that's why! 😒😒
Sorry, I'm really worked up about how badly Seungho has been treating my troubled son
UMM EXCUSE ME BYEONDUCK.
WHY IS NAKYUM SO CUTE!
He's like a precious, beautifully wrapped Christmas gift!🥰♥️
The presence of feet from c58-59 is important here. Back in 58, we saw Kim place the tub of hot water for Seungho and Na-Kyum to use, along with turning the shoes and sandals outwards like a servant would to newlyweds
This is to make the newlyweds’ exit of the room easier. This panel seemed trivial at first but now that we have 59, it became quite important
In the left panel, we see something covered under a white sheet. Initially, I assumed it was the bucket under it, but it seemed larger, and besides, it wasn’t there anymore by the time Na-Kyum exited for the second time, indicating that this time, Na-Kyum had taken care of Seungho and cleaned themselves both, while Na-Kyum didn’t realize that Seungho most likely wiped Na-Kyum clean while NK’s still asleep, and fell back to sleep. Bc for sure the bucket didn’t get inside the room by itself
And yes, I’m saying second time. The first time he got out was on these panels:
There was a scene change, indicating that Na-Kyum got out from another door, seeing as Seungho’s shoes are nowhere to be seen. Compare it below and you’ll see that there’s no snow where Na-Kyum should be sitting in the latter panels
I assume that Nameless had been circling around the apothecary waiting for a chance when Na-Kyum exited for the first time to find the bucket but couldn’t do it as he returned to clean Seungho up, and after that, he returns to the front door to contemplate.
So here’s my take. Na-Kyum def struggled but couldn’t scream bc of the gag, right. The focus of shoes and sandals became important. Na-Kyum struggles, uses his feet, most likely tried to kick at anything. There’s probably snow on the wood now, Seungho’s shoes would be in disarray, Na-Kyum’s bonnet and scarf are on the snow, Nameless’s footsteps would be left behind as indicated below
Nameless seems to leave a trail on purpose. Be it Deok-Jae’s blood and scarf, or Na-Kyum’s bonnet and scarf, or his footprints. It’s as though he WANTS to be tracked down, but why?
Feel free to correct me if you notice anything else with the way I understood the scenes
Y'all, when Seungho wakes up he's probably gonna think that Na-Kyum ran away because he could not accept his confession. I hope the fuck not 🙂
That would be so heartbreaking for Seungho!😭
This has turn into a Jihwa stan account all of a sudden, huh
So we got a glimpse into Jihwa and Seungho's past, I'd say this was about 1-2 years ago, given Jihwa's hair length. So he and Seungho got into a fight apparently and...
Did Seungho just cut off Jihwa's topknot? I feel like that is big, giant, astronomical fucking no no, given their equal social status. But hey, Seungho was a bit of a self-important lunatic before Nakyum came into his life. Because this is what is being suggested right? Them talking about a fight between them, dead on shot on Jihwa's short hair, and him twirling it, why would Byeonduck position the scene like this if that wasn't what happened? (Please correct me if I'm misremembering things from previous chapters about Jihwa's hair, I still get things wrong even though I've re-read the series n times.)
And despite everything, Jihwa really does care a lot about Seungho. Look at his worried face, it's incredibly sweet, even if he is a petty, jealous, vindictive bitch that needs some character developement, quick. They have shared trauma and that enables them to be closer to each other than what their other fuckbuddies can be. Seungho still keeps Jihwa at an arm's length but Jihwa has gone all in.
Going back to chapter 50, I feel like Jihwa's nightmare wasn't only fueled by guilt and his fear of Seungho, it was also care. Because he knew losing Nakyum would put Seungho in the same broken state he was because of his father. That darkened expression, those eyes that "the light had left" as the doctor had put it, Jihwa might not want to be the person to be put him in that hell again. He won't want to become like Yoon Patriarch, who had hurt Seungho in such an irreversible way.
This look, as he sees his goal so close before him, I don't think he will cross over that finish line. He isn't a murderer, we've established that. He doesn't want Nakyum dead, he just wants him gone somehow. Because as he'd put it,
He has had fights with Seungho and has thrown these tantrums before, but the man always took him back, because they have shared trauma and they were the only point of comfort the other had. Seungho might not had realized it but he really did need Jihwa in his life BNE (before Nakyum era) in order to keep himself sane. They were each other's oldest, closest friends and it honestly sucks that as soon as Seungho found his new point of comfort, he'd ditched Jihwa. Of course he'd feel hurt and betrayed, but I hope he will come to realize that the man just isn't worth it. I hope Jihwa will see that someone else, cough Mumyeong cough, can be his new point of comfort.
Ergo, Jihwa won't go through with this because:
He's not a murderer.
He still cares about Seungho and won't want to hurt him this bad.
He'll realize that killing Nakyum will not win him back his point of comfort.
Writing this just made me realize that Seungho really is a shitty person. He literally used Jihwa when it benefited him and threw him away as soon as he got a new safety blanket. Pfffft, I dunno know what to think of him now.
Bonus round for pretty Jihwa because I love him and I believe in him and I'm sad for him from this chapter.
Look at babie sulking ❤
Also,
This made me laugh way too hard. His man's carrying him like a sack of rice because he is being a lil brat.
I love the point that Jihwa would not want to kill Nakyum because he wouldn't want to hurt Seungho as deeply as the father he despises had.
The only reason he considered the murder in the first place was because the old Seungho wouldn't bat an eyelash over some random painter's fate. He would've been pissed for sure but mostly because it would've hurt his pride, having something of his taken from him.
When the whole murder sheme began Jihwa still thought that Seungho was just weirdly fixated on Nakyum, but now I think despite himself he's starting to realize that for Seungho it's no longer just a fixation. That's why he is so tortured over what to do. He keeps telling himself that if only Nakyum went away everything would go back to normal, but deep down he knows that the painter is precious to Seungho, that nothing will ever again be like it used to and it would cause great damage to Seungho if he hurt Nakyum. Hence the terrifying dream of Seungho's enraged and devastated face while he holds Nakyum's body.
Where can I read the new chapter of painter of the night?
Hello dear Anon!😊 You can read it on Lezhin website or on their app. But you have to pay a small fee to unlock each new chapter (you don't have to unlock them all to get to the newest one thought). Hope that helps 😘
How am I supposed to deal with this cliffhanger?!! Damn you Byeonduck!! Somebody put me in a week-long coma so I don't have to wait!🤯😱🤩
