𝕋𝕌ℝ𝕄𝕆𝕀𝕃 ℝ𝔸𝕍𝔸𝔾𝔼𝔻 𝕋ℍℝ𝕆𝕌𝔾ℍ ℍ𝕀𝕊 ℂℍ𝔼𝕊𝕋 as vanitas flew through the sky , feet planted squarely on his keyblade with his helmet darkening his view . cracks ran through the front of its visor and along its jaw piece , but he ignored it for the time being . this helmet was like a vice to him now -- it seemed every time he donned it and obscured himself from view he fell back into old habits . falling back into line , as xehanort said , and it had made his skin crawl ... everything had become too much and he just couldn't take it , the blight felt as if his innards were clawing at his stolen skin , desperate to erupt into something vile . and so he relapsed .

𝕄𝕆ℝ𝔼 𝔹𝕃𝕆𝕆𝔻 𝕆ℕ ℍ𝕀𝕊 ℍ𝔸ℕ𝔻𝕊 , another foot in the grave . he had to get away from it all .

𝔸ℕ𝔻 𝕊𝕆 ℍ𝔼ℝ𝔼 ℍ𝔼 𝕎𝔸𝕊 , running away from his problems in a world not yet doomed by that ever looming darkness . vanitas came to the end of his flight and hopped off his keyblade , sighing as void gear disappeared in a shimmer of red and black . he can hear the nagging of sora's voice in the back of his head , about the world order and how important it was to maintain ... right now , he didn't really care , all he wanted was to escape that scratch scratch scratch behind his ears , the writhing underneath his fingernails and behind his teeth .

𝔸𝕊 ℍ𝔼 𝕎𝔸ℕ𝔻𝔼ℝ𝔼𝔻 𝔸𝕃𝕆ℕ𝔾 cracks of light streaming through the breaks in his helm and vanitas warred with his heart , tugging him to and fro between the dark and the light .

it was birth by sleep's birthday like yesterday VANITAS HAS BEEN IN OUR LIVES FOR 15 YEARSSS what an actual blessing honestly

🍁 + what does an ideal day look for vanitas?

i don't think vanitas knows what his ideal day looks like yet. if you asked him during the span of any of the games, short of fusing with ventus and having the x-blade actually fill him with ease rather than panic and overwhelm, it would probably be... a day without his emotions.

a day where every and any emotion or feeling is pushed out before it can even start to process, troves upon troves of unversed. nothing is scary and unknown and confusing when you're a blank slate. but existing as a husk of yourself just to escape your big feelings isn't a way to live, and i think even though it would feel SAFE it wouldn't feel NICE.

if i had to make an assumption i would say a day full of positive distraction, of experiencing new things but having someone or something to ground him so it doesn't feel as terrifying. maybe going somewhere that said other person hasn't been to either so they're BOTH learning and experiencing and vanitas doesn't feel so unnatural in his lack of knowledge. somewhere where he doesn't feel threatened and doesn't feel like he has to be ready to protect himself at all times.... and likely with a lot of food, lol.

as part of his alternate story i like to say his first real experience with the guardians of light was being sent to join kairi and lea during their keyblade training to help hasten their learning. vanitas knows A LOT about fighting with his keyblade and he's had to do so to survive for years, he's good at it and he can be a ruthless teacher. i think he would find enjoyment out of that because for once he doesn't know the least in the room he's in, and knowing kairi and lea they'd likely try to strum up some kind of companionship with him and get him to uncoil from his prickly shell a little. i could see a good training day with those two being an ideal day for him too.

𝔽𝕆ℝ 𝕊𝕆𝕄𝔼 ℝ𝔼𝔸𝕊𝕆ℕ unknown to him , rapunzel seemed to know almost every feasible way to stop him in his tracks . he's starting to get used to her touchiness , at least enough for it to not surprise him every time she initiated some kind of contact -- but her words were more than enough to make him visibly shut down for a moment or two -- processing those words with every fibre of his being .

𝔸ℕ 𝕌ℕ𝕍𝔼ℝ𝕊𝔼𝔻 𝕆ℝ 𝕋𝕎𝕆 spawn suddenly around them , wiggling around in a show of embarrassment , too shy to show themselves to the both of them . luckily for the princess if she had caught on to how to read them -- vanitas still hadn't . blissfully unaware of how blatantly telling having his unversed out and about reacting to the outward push of his emotions were .

𝔹𝔼ℂ𝔸𝕌𝕊𝔼 ℍ𝔼 ℂℍ𝔸ℕℕ𝔼𝕃𝔼𝔻 his feelings out of his body and into the physical world it managed to stave off the blush that was threatening to ignite bone - white cheeks . his shoulders however were still visibly stiff as he balled his hands together , clenching and unclenching his fingers in an attempt to self - soothe .

two worlds pop into my mind almost immediately at this question, tbh!

olympus would feel close to home. frequent fighting and bettering of yourself through training, the existence of monsters and beasts, and especially the underworld. i think he'd feel almost welcomed down there, he thrives in areas ruled by darkness and his powers would likely sustain a boost. that being said he did grow up with a very negative view on himself and his darkness, being repulsed by it and what he can do -- so i don't know if he would necessarily love the underworld. just... feel as if he fit there, and be unnerved and confused by any feelings of unrest or displeasure there.

other than that, a world like hollow bastion / radiant garden! a big town with large open spaces, enough for him to slink off and be in his own company without being spotted or having a ton of people nearby, but also having a lot of very quick access to properly made food. a place like twilight town would be somewhat similar with its access to food (especially when the bistro opens up), but i think twilight town is too condensed and crowded for him.

She   still   couldn't   believe   her   rebelliousness,   slipping   past   the   vigilant   eyes   of   the   castle   guard,   unseen   and   unchallenged.   Rapunzel   was   quite   aware   of   the   chaos   that   would   unfold   if   they   discovered   she   had   disappeared.

Yet,   despite   the   potential   for   panic,   she   couldn’t   quell   the   urge   within   her.

A   quiet   walk   was   all   she   needed,   not   a   lengthy   one,   just   enough   time   to   breath   in   the   crisp   forest   air.

The   Princess   reasoned   she'd   return   in   no   time   ...   easing   the   faint   twinge   of   guilt   in   her   heart.

As   she   strolled,   taking   in   the   lovely   sights   around   her,   she   was   taken   aback   to   discover   a   lone   figure   seated   nearby.   She   hadn't   expected   to   come   across   anyone,   seeing   as   the   inner   kingdom   arguably   had   more   exciting   things   to   offer.

Her   initial   thought   was   that   he   was   perhaps   up   to   something   questionable.   However,   the   manner   in   which   he   sat,   coupled   with   the   air   of   dejection   surrounding   him,   swiftly   dispelled   that   notion.

Eyes   of   emerald   lingered   on   the   boy   before   she   approached,   responding   to   the   words   he   had   just   spoken.   "I   ...   don't   know   what   you're   referring   to   ...but   -   you   shouldn't   give   up"   she   chimed   in,   head   tilting   slightly   while   golden   strands   cascaded   over   her   shoulder   like   a   waterfall   of   sunlight.

𝕊𝕆 ℂ𝔸𝕌𝔾ℍ𝕋 𝕌ℙ in his own melancholy vanitas hadn't even heard her approaching . it stunned him , usually he was so cautious about keeping his guard up . his agitation was making him sloppy -- nothing was going his way today ... though that being said , when did it ever ?

ℍ𝔼 𝕋𝕌ℝℕ𝕊 𝕋𝕆 𝔾𝕃𝔸ℕℂ𝔼 at the unwelcome company and her brightness was almost blinding , filled to the brim with nothing but pure light ... this must be one of the new princesses of heart xehanort had mentioned . lucky him .

ℍ𝔼 𝕊𝕀𝔾ℍ𝔼𝔻 𝔸ℕ𝔻 𝕃𝕆𝕆𝕂𝔼𝔻 𝔸𝕎𝔸𝕐 again , silence hanging over him for a moment before he answered her . ❝ ... even if i want to my stubbornness wont let me . ❞ 𝕃𝕀𝕂𝔼 𝕊𝕆𝕄𝔼 𝕂𝕀ℕ𝔻 𝕆𝔽 ℂℝ𝕌𝔼𝕃 𝕁𝕆𝕂𝔼 . even he couldn't help from inflicting more pain on himself .

... 𝕎ℍ𝔸𝕋 𝕎𝔸𝕊 𝕀𝕋 about people like her , the ones bursting at the seams with light , that made them infuriatingly sensitive to other peoples misfortunes ? she reminded him of sora in a way , reaching out to him during a moment she wasn't even a part of . she didn't have to bother with him . it never got any easier for him to understand . when vanitas looks back toward the girl he finally takes her in fully . giant puppy dog eyes and far more hair than any one person needed .
