Will you ever make Alaska into a movie? PLEASE
It’s not my decision.
Almost 10 years ago, the movie rights to Looking for Alaska were purchased by Paramount. They bought the rights forever, so they will control them forever. In 2005, the money we made from the LFA movie sale was life-changing. It wasn’t a tremendous amount of money, but it made it much easier for us to move to New York so Sarah could go to graduate school. So I can’t regret the decision to sell the rights.
Maybe someday Paramount will choose to make a movie. Or maybe they won’t. I don’t know. It’s been a long 10 years, and along the way there have been many moments of excitement and many moments of frustration about a possible LFA movie. But the rights aren’t mine, and they never will be.
I’ve been really, really, really lucky with both The Fault in Our Stars and Paper Towns to be included in every step of the process. Like, neither TFIOS nor Paper Towns is my movie: I don’t have veto power on anything or decide casting or approve any part of the movie, but my voice has always been welcome in the conversation, even if I end up getting outvoted. With both TFIOS and Paper Towns it’s been a wondrously collaborative and open process. That’s very, very rare in Hollywood, and I’m grateful.
I feel like it’s time to update this, John!
when your mom doesn’t cook you dinner
I live alone and had popcorn and golden oreos for dinner tonight. I mean, I also have an awful starvation headache but that’s not the point...
My Fandom Madness bracket after round 1. Apparently I really don’t know my mischief! I nearly aced ‘brain’ though, you can see why I’m a Ravenclaw.
