I love watching iwtv to get inspo on how to write messy vampires
I love watching tvl to learn how not to write (I also don't love watching tvl)
just written a love confession between two characters that's been building for 90k words
what do I do now
I have 3 weeks between jobs and honestly been so excited to write again but ofc my body decides to be a little bitch and be in the most pain I've been in in years like thanks a bunch
on the bright side I've written some of the most depressing stuff I've written in a while so it's working out a bit
There’s something so peaceful about writing on a train journey some of the best things I’ve ever written were written on a train
being around for the weekly drops of tvl is doing great things for my Sunday muse
as a welsh person i want you all to accept that W is a vowel because honestly it makes pronouncing acronyms so much easier. wlw becomes ‘ooloo’, wjec becomes ‘oojeck’, love yourselves and stop giving us shit when we tell you welsh has 7 vowels. english actually has 15 vowel sounds but because y’all only use 5 letters you have to rely on a spelling system devised by satan
and please, enough with the “keyboard smashing” jokes. not original, not funny.
“ #okay but can any of y'all even pronounce your own town names tho? #bye”
yeah, we can actually because the spelling is phonetic. meanwhile english folks have placenames like bicester or keighley or beaulieu, which you have to learn the pronunciation for individually because the rules are so inconsistent. i mean people can’t even agree how to pronounce marylebone but sure welsh place names are the weird ones
“#But are you aware your language literally looks like a potato rolled across a keyboard”
fun fact: for decades children were beaten for speaking welsh in school, even in areas where english was barely spoken, because the government decided in 1847 that the language made people lazy and immoral
fun fact: welsh orthography is actually easy to read if you take your head out of your arse for one minute and learn our alphabet - just like french, or spanish, or korean, because surprise! languages use different spelling systems that are not based on english. novel, i know - and in the 18th century, travelling schools were able to teach people to read and write welsh in a matter of months, so that wales enjoyed a literate majority, a rare thing in europe at the time
fun fact: the english have been taking the piss out of welsh for years, just like they’ve been doing for irish, and scots gaelic, and cornish, and british sign language, and a hundred and one other languages, because evidently the fact that the whole world isn’t anglophone and monocultured and Still Part Of The Empire is a problem, and something that needs to be corrected
A dyna pam rwy’n weithio yn yr Iaith Gymraeg
Tour’s done and I wrote maybe 500 words at best but that’s 500 more words than I had at the start of tour so taking it as a win
Time to make the most of 2 weeks off and hide in a cafe and write
your inner child is so proud of the writer you’ve become
I spent my two months off of work dithering going back to uni to do an English course, and somehow my first job back from my little break revolves around it never being too late to go back into education especially to do an English lit degree so not really sure what to do with that
Up in the middle of nowhere up north in Cymru this week
Will I get more writing done than I did last week
The bar is low
So I’ve ended the week in Mid Wales (best place for the Senedd election results) and written maybe a couple hundred words and honestly I’ll take that
Back up North now
Up in the middle of nowhere up north in Cymru this week
Will I get more writing done than I did last week
The bar is low
there's nothing like being in the middle of nowhere Cymru with just birds and rivers for company and being in a little cottage with a log fire that I absolutely will not touch
I am so ready for the amount of writing I'm going to get done this week
So update
I wrote 100 words all week
However considering I’ve been working in a village hall all day every day I’m taking that as a win
there's nothing like being in the middle of nowhere Cymru with just birds and rivers for company and being in a little cottage with a log fire that I absolutely will not touch
I am so ready for the amount of writing I'm going to get done this week
It’s not even 3pm and I’ve
Made bread
Written 5000 words
Cleaned the kitchen
Made gnocchi
Now waiting for banana bread to finish cooking
As much as I hate to admit it waking up at 7am on a Sunday is fucking amazing
Now the question is do I biscoff-ify the banana bread once it’s done
I just finished writing a chapter I’ve been stuck on since September, written half of the next chapter for that WIP and I cleaned my kitchen and the sun has been so consistent today it charged my glow in the dark axolotl that I forgot was glow in the dark until I just turned over in bed and saw a glowing face staring at me from the sofa today has been a fucking incredible day
Not being burnt out is wild like what do you mean I’m just normal tired and not absolutely exhausted down to my bones and what do you mean I wake up when my alarm goes off vaguely prepared to face the day and not press snooze until I literally have to get up???? What do you mean I actually have fun at my job????
One downside is lack of writing time however I am stubborn I will figure it out eventually but I actually want to write?????? The thought of it doesn’t make me want to cry?????? I posted on my bookstagram today and I even smoothed out my Substack like ?????? Who am I and what am I doing?????
I love taking absolutely every moment possible where I'm in a situation where I can't write to fully plan out every single detail of every single scene but whenever I actually sit down to write I somehow end up doing my 50th sudoku of the day and writing maybe 5 words
