Gil let out a surprised screech, pinwheeling his arms. He leaned back and forth as he tried not to lose his balance—which usually wasn’t hard! He had good balance, so he thought. He still ended up on his back, blinking stars out of his eyes and giving the sky a bewildered glare. Was it just him, or did everything seem kind of….wobbly, all of a sudden? Ugh. Gil rolled to his feet and shook his head, rubbing at his eyes. He weaved back and forth as he stumbled towards Isa, each step wary, as though he expected the ground to suddenly burst up and flip him. He could do this still! He could probably do this. He just had to be careful—
Gil tripped on air, falling into a tumble and rolling straight into Xander, feet first.
Huh, wow, guess Isa did know what she was doing in a fight. Xander stood with a little less embarrassment as he watched her.. commence flailing again. ..Well, hey, it worked before.
And now maybe it wasn’t working out quite so well. Suddenly the Infernape was stumbling Xander’s way. He tried to leap aside but Gil’s feet grazed his shin and he slipped up, barely managing to catch himself. Isa kept flailing.
“All right you damn monkey,” he growled at Gil. “You wanna fight with me now huh?” He smirked and cracked his knuckles. “Well sure, why the fuck not?” Because fire and martial arts Xander. “Isa I’m tagging you out.”
The thing about letting his pokemon outside of the pokeballs the majority of the time was that, unless he was keeping a close eye on them, he had no idea where half of them went most of the time. Pru and Mandy he didn't worry about--they seemed quite taken with each other, and as long as Pru was sleeping, Mandy would watch over her like an overprotective mother from beyond the grave. With Gil and Mistral--
"SCREECREE!!"
Alan let out a squawk of his own as Mistral flew at him, slapping his head with her wings as she settled onto his shoulders. She shifted from one foot to the other, tugging at his hair and jacket. Then she was off again, circling him once before flying in a straight line. He ran after her, eyebrows raised. "Mistral, what are you--did you two do something again? Hey!" He ducked around tents and people as he went, careful not to lose sight of her.
Then he rounded a corner and fffffffrick! Alan skidded to a stop, tripping over his feet as he tried not to run over his own infernape. "Gil? Gil, what are you--uh." Alan froze, bent over with arms out for balance, when he noticed Xander and Isa. He pulled himself upright, ears going red with embarrassment. "Y--wh--um. Er." Alan looked from Gil, who was swaying from where he crouched, to Isa, then to Xander. "Was--what--I'm sorry?"
When in doubt, assume Gil did something.

10. …Had a different starter? (Randomly Generate a number 1-649. Redo if Legendary)--9: Blastoise! If they even gave him such a high-level pokemon off the bat it would either be a disaster or a load of fun--he'd probably be more suited to the Navy, though, with a pokemon so big, or flying a bomber instead of a spitfire. It would be named after something big and heavy, and it would be completely awesome.13. …Had the most important person in camp to them die in battle?He would be upset--extremely upset--but he'd have to try and carry on, because what else can he do? Can't stop moving forward, even if he wants to. Would probably need to be dragged out of his bunk for a while--not sure if he'd want revenge, once the battle has come and gone--he'd fight partly in their memory, but I don't think he's a revenge kind of guy? Or when it gets down to it and he's holding the knife, he wouldn't go through with it.

Blame himself, most likely.18. …Had their worst nightmare come true?I'm not sure what his worst nightmare is--there are many terrible fates in the world. Perhaps the death of all his family? He would not take that well. Would noooot take it well. Would probably become a little unhinged for a while--a little maniac, a little suicidal, trying to hold together as he always does but convincing no one.

17. (what if)…Got into a fight alone against 10 people?If he actually tried to fight ten to one, he'd get completely shit-kicked. Stronger than he looks, but not that strong! He'd probably try to run if he could.20. …Had one wish granted?The war would be over, I think. Use his wish for other people before he'd use it for himself.

11. …Had/Didn’t have children?He would be the most awkward father, because he'd be so young--he wouldn't feel ready! But want to do his best by them--he might not have enlisted at all even with his father needling him, because he would want to stay with them--presumably they'd still be pretty small children. If he did leave after all--either from being drafted or from finally being talked into it--he'd have that little bit of worry all the time. Are they okay? What if he dies? Stuff like that. For all his awkwardness, I'd like to think he's a good dad, and he'd carry their pictures and if you ask him about them, he'd find that oh my god he has all these things to say?? Let him tell you about his kids, he'd be like a more awkward, quiet version of Hughes. He wouldn't talk about them much otherwise, so he'd be the guy where he goes '...oh, my kid would like that' out of nowhere, really quietly, and you'd look over and see how young he is and go 'wait, you have a kid?'
'Kids, actually. Plural.' And he'd be kind of embarrassed and bashful and it'd be like
'You have kids??' (You got laid???)
What if Alan's father hadn't driven him to join up?
He would likely have looked into becoming a medic or a vet, or one of the handlers for the military pokemon--as he told his dad, there's more than one way to help out during a war aside from become a soldier. He'd probably run into some bumps going from classroom learnings to actually applying what he's learned, but he'd keep at it because he'd want to be doing something useful!
Cue him standing there with a pokemon chewing his head, all like 'well, at least you're not biting down very hard. Progress!' I think a job as a handler/trainer/whatever would have been full of amazing shenanigans and he'd develop like, nerves of steel because holy shit some of the potential pokemon partners. He would try his best to make sure the mons were treated well, because monsters yes, but they're also intelligent, with personalities and feelings! If/when he gets wind of systematic, horrible things done to certain types of pokemon, he'd get very frustrated because he's just one guy, what can he do? Not much to stop it.
...he'd probably get either a lot of injuries or very, very good reflexes for dodging more hostile pokemon. He'd be like a distressed father or something because he'd get kind of attached but then they hand out the pokemon and--no guarantee that the mon he worked so hard with will be treated well! 'Aw man, I hope some dumbass doesn't mess them up. :c' Not naive enough to think that pokemon are helpless or think that all of them are friendly, but he'd still be concerned.
If he was a medic, his friend Daniel Lucas is also a medic, so they could probably hang around whatever medical facility if they were placed together.

4. (What if he)…Had the opposite personality?He'd probably be an unbearable, obnoxious jerk who disdains book learning and Pokemon. Overtly hostile towards people because of those that were hostile to him, close-minded instead of learning from the attitudes he hates so much.8. …Was/Wasn’t captured as a POW?He would have hung out with the other Kanto POWs and tried to keep a relatively positive outlook--I mean, he's screwed, but getting more depressed wouldn't help. He'd have found his smart aleck mouth because dude--why are a fair portion of Johto MPs bastards, he would probably reach his tolerance limit with them. Goes in with all his teeth and his nose intact, comes out with gaps in his grin and a broken nose.12. …Had gotten pregnant/gotten someone pregnant during the war?Oh god, he'd probably freak out a little because not sure if ready to be a father and also, not the best time to become a father. He'd try to take responsibility for what's happened and support the mom--maybe marry her if she wants to, because if he likes her enough to have sex with her, he wouldn't be completely against the idea, and I don't think the 1940s were very kind to single moms. From there, I'd hope that the marriage works out.16. …Was Supreme Overlord of the Pokemon Region?I honestly have no idea. He might abdicate because he's not the kind of guy that would feel comfortable with a position like that--maybe he'd try to change things for the better but eeh. He'd be a reluctant leader, if he had to be.
What if Alan inherited more from his mother's side than his father's side? Also, what if the Sharps had nothing but sons?
BELATED TEXT WALL INCOMING.I WILL DRAW THESE KIDS LATER I just was sitting on this because I wanted to draw them all ;__; but I'm too slowww and I've been hit by diarrhea of the mouth. (ALSO I HOPE THIS DOESN'T COME OUT ALL SHITTY AND WRONG if you think I'm being shitty and wrong kick me please for the love of God.)Appearance-wise, he'd have the same kind of wavy-curly hair as his mom, of course! He'd probably let it grow a little--about the same length as his hair is currently? Any longer and it'd probably be hell to deal with; thinking it'd be thick enough to kill hair ties and it would tangle all the time. Dark-skinned, probably a little on the delicate side--not a clone of his mom, but yeah, he'd get looks from her. Taller, but not as tall as his mom still.As for personality--the thing with Alan as he is currently is that he's a mixed race child, but he looks really white--if you didn't know who his family was, you probably wouldn't be able to tell. They all got shit for it, Alan included, but with people who didn't know, at least, Alan wouldn't have faced--problems? The differences in treatment bother him, and part of the reason why he's so open-minded is from this kind of thing. (Also open-minded because being given shit for things he can't help sucks and he knows it, he doesn't want to do that to other people.) And part of the reason he's quiet--he's been on the receiving end of bullying and constant bullshit and as a kid he just--pulled back? He genuinely likes pokemon and the forest and all, but it was also easier to--not be there where all the other kids are. Wasn't a great loss, he didn't have that many friendly acquaintances anyway--they weren't all assholes, but the more neutral kids avoided him because of the bullies targeting him. (The few friends he has--Abby, Lucas, etc--are all kids who are either seen as weird already or don't care--forceful, 'fuck you guys I do what I want' types.) Alan avoids conflict and is always polite because if he gets into a fight or says something rude, however justified, he's the one who'd get the worst of it, because his heritage and because he's an outcast kind of. (And also because it's good to be polite, and what's the point of fighting? Can't fight everything and everyone, it wouldn't change their minds if they're determined not to see. And it gets tiring. Argues with his dad partly because he can, the other bit is their conflicting viewpoints, otherwise--no fighting unless you hit a nerve, or unless he feels like he has to.) As he gets older he gets acquaintances and he builds up a reputation and finds a niche that's less hostile, but habits die hard and it's not like the bullshit really stopped--he's just good at letting bullshit fall away, it doesn't matter anymore. He is determined not to let it matter, anyway.I guess if certain asshole classmates were different, Alan would be more of an outgoing shounen hero? Adventurous, friendly. IDK he's from a mixed family and his dad married his mom because he doesn't care about anyone else's objections. His family is made of people who, to a certain extent, go 'fuck it I do what I want.' Mr. Sharp's respected for what he does and his very honest sort of personality, but it's not enough to shield his kids from stuff so...where was I going with this?SO THAT IS ALAN LOOKING LIKE A WHITE KID, if he looked like his mom and looked like a black kid, facing the same shit, he'd be--like that still, I think, except more. He'd be--very calm, outwardly, impassive--because they're expecting the lowest and the worst of him and he won't give them that, no matter the provocation! He wouldn't reach out and he'd be harder to reach out to, because ok, he still has a soft and friendly and adventurous center, but he--is pretty wary? Gave up on trying? With other POC kids it'd be a bit better, probably.And all sons? CHAOS. Or not chaos, but a different flavor of insanity, with there being six boys--well--actually things are probably pretty much about the same, noise-wise and shenanigan-wise, just that the shouting is in different octaves and about different things. I think there's be both more and less pressure on Alan--his dad would have other sons to place his expectations on so he'd push Alan less, but also other sons to compare him to, so there'd be more "Why can't you be like him?" He's probably still pressured to enlist with the rest of them, because look at those good sons! But at the very least, Alan wouldn't be the odd one out--somehow, I don't see any of them changing personality or interests very much even when they change sex, so Sam is still kind of parental-like and likes to cook and sew (he's just a tree and looks like he could actually maul you if you gave him shit about it). Madison's still a jokester, Alex is still going to shank you maybe, Emil still does the engineering thing, Adrian is still kind of prim and proper. So there would possibly be less fighting with dad; mom is probably the same as she'd always been, if a little wistful sometimes--she'd like a daughter. She and Sam would be pretty close.Sam probably went through a phase where he tried to deny interest in traditionally feminine things, because his classmates are those kinds of kids who'd make fun of a boy for it, and he already sticks out--he wanted to fit in. But at some point he has an epiphany and looks at his peers and is like 'you know what, screw you guys, you're all assholes anyway.' I think Alan would be closer to Sam, because Sam is--not a disappointment, but their dad does side-eye him, and Sam sticks up for Alan not wanting to do what their dad wants him to do, and I'm...not articulate about this, augh. Adrian is a total gentleman but probably gets trouble from certain types of guys because they think he's girly and weird--Adrian is a pretty-boy. Adrian (and Adrianna) is also queer but that's not anyone's business, and either way they're not fool enough to broadcast that to the world.Madison is probably popular with the ladies, he's the good kind of bro. Alex is popular too, because for some reason they find him mysteriously alluring--'ladies like a bad boy' trope in effect? He's small for a guy, Adrian. Madison and Emil find his popularity completely hilarious, because Alex doesn't even know what to do with all these women trying to flirt--actually he probably is concerned about some of them--"WHY DOES THIS GIRL KEEP DROPPING HER PEN. DO I SCARE HER OR SOMETHING" and "I want to tell her that her shirt needs buttoning but will she take that the wrong way" and "She keeps blinking...something in her eye?"And Madison is just like "Bro, she's winking at you. Bro she wants you to see her boobs. Bro, she's trying to start something with you. Bro." Alex is dense in that arena.Emil is surrounded by guys who are as smart as he is and he's happy as a lark. I mean, some of them are competitive assholes because a POC being as smart as they are? Blasphemy! But Emil takes it as a challenge. Also, he likes to piss them off, they turn funny colors, and his dad knows that Emil's work is sound--dad wouldn't pull punches if he thought Emil's work was bad. Emily is about the same, but it's doubly hard for her to get into a position where she can piss those guys off--first, a woman, second, a woman of color. Where I think Emil would go to a university, I think most of Emily's later education comes from working with her dad at his place.
