i would like to declare that not only russians, but also we macedonians, along with bulgarians, serbians, croatians etc all slav squat and wear tracksuits. we also drink a lot of rakija and vodka. it just is.

I'm from the U.S. but my family is Slavic and I'm a Slav by blood. I know my opinion doesn't hold as much weight since I don't live in a Slavic country but I personally don't find your blog offensive, just like I don't find American memes offensive. I think your blog is pretty great, who cares if a few people get offended.

The problem with these jokes isn't the jokes themselves, they'd be ok, the problem is that this is the only representation we get. Slavic nations, esp Russia, never had any positive attitude in Western countries. They went from "the evil empire" straight to "thuggish uneducated drunkards" without any goodish stops. the French or English also get laughed at but they are also romanticised a lot so theres balance and some sort of objectivity. It's up to you to decide though,this is just saddening.

I just found your blog and I don't find it really offensive, but yes historically-wise, the Slavs squatting in tracksuits was a trend mostly popular in the 90s when crime rate was INCREDIBLY high. These ''gangs'' which (speaking for Serbia which is my country) were located mostly in different part of the city (Belgrade mostly) and fought w/ eachother. There was not a day that passed w/o shootings, murders and death.. So the history of the meme isn't really funny lol

Yeah I’m aware, I actually posted about that before, I don’t know if those posts are still up. I wanted to make sure we didn’t let memes create MORE negativity towards slavs but at the same time I think we didn’t really progress a lot in that field which is sad.

Dude, fuck them! I miss your posts. True slavs don't get offended by simple photos. A few hours ago a video came up were everyone was head-to-toe wearing adidas and no one was offended. Do what makes you happy and if people complain well, though shit, it isn't something that offends EVERYONE so they can choose to block your posts or just stop looking at them jeez. Sorry for my French.

As a slav living in the u.s I think it's about god damn time people appreciate us even if it's a big joke. No one knew about us slavs before these memes. I'm okay with slavs being infamous for a lil bit. But non slavs shouldn't take it away from us ya feel

For some weird reason I decided to come check my notifications here after not having done this for about a year ahhaha, thanks for your message. I still think it’s not exactly appropriation or insulting because I understand it’s just a meme that derives from a tragic situation but apparently people do find it offensive because there are those who let memes influence their worldview and actually believe slavs are like this. Because of that I decided to back off and let others continue memeing if they wish so, but I don’t want to be hateful or be accused of hatefulness, depending on the viewpoint of the person. I never thought these memes would make slavs infamous. I will admit they have quite a bad, undeserved reputation, and as any stereotype, it’s harmful and ignorant. I just didn’t think slav squat embodied that stereotype, I assumed most people knew better than that.

I got so many messages from slavs living in eastern europe saying they didn’t feel offended and didn’t find the memes insulting, and that’s why I stated that I don’t think it’s insulting. But if the general consensus is that it’s insulting, then I will stay away.

But this blog isn`t offensive! Don`t stop updating it, please. I am a slav and I didn`t find it offensive, I just think it`s funny. Why do people keep saying that your blog isn`t okay?

Scroll down my blog a bit and you’ll see some of the messages I received. Also, lots of people didn’t message me but posted about how offensive this blog was (and of course I found those posts). I loved running this blog but I’m not a slav and well… I can see why they complained so much. If I were slavic I guess this wouldn’t be as “problematic”It’s not worth the drama.

maybe people on tumblr are mostly know that russians are not crazy agressive poor drunkards, but it's like that only here. memes have tendency to go all over the internet, all kind of people see them. so russians who live in America often face the fact that a lot of people think they are actually crazy agressive poor drunkards. gopniks are pretty much representation of all those stereotypes so even if you're not ignorant you still supporting the stereotypes and that's what makes me upset

I’m sorry, they shouldn’t have to deal with such harmful stereotypes.
