global warming is about the surface temperature. The vertical distribution of temperature decreases by 3C/km up until the tropopause (~10km). as the surface heats up, the heat is transferred upward by turbulence up to just a couple km. the heat is further transferred up to the tropopause by cumulus convection.

Against common intuition, the vertical heat transportation is NOT by direct condensation of water vapor. it is by large-scale subsidence compensating the convection, using the Ideal gas law.

the global warming concern is not about temperature increase by certain degrees. it is about whether or not the earth can find a balance.

In mid-latitude area, the general circulation goes upward on the east coasts of continents and sinks on the west coasts. upward motion goes with wet climate while download motion is dry. thats why california has a dry climate and florida is moist.
