Subaru Impreza WRX STI
This has long held the unofficial poster boy of the rally racing world. With everyone knowing this car as one of the few rally cars available to drive on the roads its always held my love for rally racing on the real roads as well. The model we're talking about here is one of the more powerful models. Fitted in this model is a EJ-207 model. A brief covering of the engine if you don't know Subaru's EJ line. This engine is a flat 4 cylinder engine with a 2.5 liter engine. This car pumps out 304 BHP roughly (227 Kw). At this point I should point out that the bog standard EJ-207 won't give you this but as the car is shipped with twin scroll turbo chargers It pumps out what the car uses. This is the same basic engine that's used in the world rally championships. This car also uses its enormousness torque output to throw it around, 300 lb per ft. This is also the first STI to be fitted with an automatic transmission. It also uses Subaru's intelligent drive (SI-Drive). If you're a regular here you know I know little about the whole on board computer thing but here goes. With these options you can throw the traction control to "normal" "traction" or "off". These different ways of setting up the traction control let you either throw it around like a penny on ice or take hair pin bends at 60 MPH. You've also got options to change the suspension settings for races as well. Over all I think this is an amazing car and not only is one of the best on the rally circuit you could, with some poetic licence, justify owning one for every day use as well. If you really wanted to own one and uses on the tracks though your best bet is the Cosworth WRX STI CS400. Only 75 of these little guys where ever made though so if you see one, snatch it up quick. For your extra buck you get improved brakes, suspension and the engine has had a refit to give you about 30 more BHP. Any questions ask away.
Engine Gutter.
