So this is something that's becoming less relevant in the modern world, but do you think when the Volturi recruited a new guard, particularly when they were human, did they have to teach them literacy skills and languages and stuff like that? Because I'm losing my mind at the idea of tutoring lessons from hell with Caius

Serious answer: I think most of the coven  and many guards entered immortality while sub-literate or only semi-literate. Maybe they knew their alphabet and how to write their name. But reading a complex text or writing an essay? Nope. 

As a result, there’s a pretty well-established culture of language lessons in Volterra. Good news: vampires learn quickly, so simply spending time in a particular location and hearing people speak will make them functionally fluent. Bad news: they still have to learn to write the old-fashioned way. Caius may be in charge of grading papers. (WHERE is your THESIS STATEMENT?? he scribbles in the margins, using a very sinister quill and a pot of red ink. He also has gold-star stickers, but those come out less often.)

okay so the erasure of Aerys and Rhaegel genuinely kills me. like every time i read a fanfic and see them refer to maekar as the “second son” it makes me wanna scream. Maekar is the FOURTH son… he sprang out LAST. like they mention Aerys and Rhaegel in the show too so it’s not even a matter of not reading the books, it’s just not paying attention. okay ted talk over
