It’s clear as day that she follows in the footsteps of her own father. Her technique reflects a refined agility lacking in most warriors. Of the few opportunities he was fortunate enough to witness the footwork of his father’s retainer, he can discern a distinct style shared by the two. He knows better than to lower his guard against her. Fending her off in full awareness is difficult enough. It’s no wonder she managed a blow. His gaze lingers on the sword at his side before he’s ready to meet hers.
A discreet shuffling of the feet accompanies nervous laughter. “ Mayhaps I am getting ahead of myself, ” He remarks in earnest. “ This war is far from ideal circumstances, but I wish to continue to stay like this with you and Ignis in the future. ” One day he would be crowned king of Nohr and he hoped his beloved retainers would remain at his side watching over him until then ( and long after ).
She wipes the sweat off her brow, ears intent on picking up her Lord’s words. The grip on her sword tightens upon his lighthearted confession, a hum of acknowledgement leaving her ever grinning lips. Idealistically, at the end of this war and if peace was restored between the kingdoms, being a retainer wouldn’t be necessary. She would be free to roam, to find her own path away from being a royal and being bound to a royal.
❝ It’s a nice thought, ❞ she agrees, though one cannot deny the troubled expression she wears. Of course, her desires were merely her ideal. If he needed her with him, to remain a pillar of support, she supposes it can’t be the worst to happen. They’re young, after all. If anything, the future will change. She can’t see into the years that await them, and neither could he. First and foremost, she was his retainer. Soleil didn’t resent the fact and would rather embrace it than push it away.
Soon, she relaxes, as if the turmoil sorted itself out alongside the silence that followed her agreement, a laugh accompanying her amused grin. “He’ll be happy knowing Nohr’s crowned prince welcomes his company even after everything’s over. Can’t say I’m too upset either. If you need me, I’ll be with you. When you don’t, I’ll come running as a friend when I’m needed again. Simple, yeah?” She reveals not of her plans to go travelling and seeing the world in peace, but she has more tact than that. Better than to trample on his dreams, isn’t it?
