Water You Doing?! || Seraphina & Ivette

“Yeah, Riv seems to be making a good friend, huh?” Seraphina looked at the two, laughing quietly when Delta took the change to hide behind Riv, who puffed up to ‘protect’ her. “He’s a dork, don’t believe his act, Delta.”

Riv snorted and puffed up some more, putting on his tough guy act. The swimmer girl just laughed again as she dug out her other Pokeballs. Seraphina slipped into the water, leaving her stuff on the deck of the floating town, and let out all three of the remaining Pokemon. A Gastrodon (which was now on the deck next to Ivette), a Huntail, and a Lumineon. “Well, since Riv made a friend, I thought it would only be right to at least let you see my other Pokemon. This is Slick,” she pointed to the Gastrodon, “Lum-Lum,” pointing to the Lumineon, “and Jaws.” She pointed lastly to the Huntail, which roared in greeting.

Ivette couldn’t help but laugh as she watched the Floatzel “protect” her own. Aw, now that was just cute. It seemed as though the two had formed a bond quicker than she could even notice.

Now, in the midst of Seraphina’s introductions, Delta had taken ahold of Riv’s arm with gentle paws, blinking around as she watched the Pokémon come out of their Poké Balls. 

“Huh,” Ivette grinned, a thumb going to the side of her chin as she looked over at the newcomers. “Some impressive partners you got here. Real cute. Nice to meet all of you, hmm?” She gave a nod of confirmation, pulling out her own  Poké Balls but not releasing anyone from them just yet. “I got three other guys, too, but they like the forest more than they do water. I’d have more water-types with me, but you have to adjust for the job, you know? I love them anyway, though, aha.”

 “Yeah, it does.” Seraphina smiled and nodded, glancing out where the Ranger was looking. A smile spread on her face as she watched Riv and Delta, and she leaned back as well. “Yeah, the water is a lot warmer, a lot nicer, really. Swimming from here to Sinnoh was a little more difficult because of that, though.“ The blonde laughed. “When it’s warm, it makes you wanna fall asleep!”

Seraphina tossed the idea around, but only for a second. “Yeah! That seems like a great idea! Riv and I would love to come and visit.” She had been meaning to wander around Hoenn more, but the water and its warmth were like a mother’s embrace to her, something that was hard to leave.

Riv floated with her, nuzzling Delta’s neck and booping his nose on her cheek. If Floatzel could blush, his face would be completely red. Riv purred as well, snuggling up to Delta.

Ivette took her cap as she listened to Seraphina, pulling the straps it held together apart in order so that she could clip it on one of the belt loops of her shorts. She nodded to her in agreement in regards to the water and how warmth made people want to nap...

...Then again, the Ranger took every opportunity to nap anyway.

“Riv?” She blinked for a moment, then realizing who she’d meant. “Oh, right. Your Floatzel, huh?” She gave a hum as she stared at the him and Delta play with one another, a rather cocky grin coming to her lips afterwards. “It looks like Delta likes your boy, huh?”

Hearing what her trainer had said, Delta gave a surprised noise and covered her face, suddenly embarrassed at the accusation. She thus swam around him, as if to hide behind the water-type. She gave a whining sound, becoming bashful all of a sudden...Well, more than she had been before!

What a Steal || Lucas and Ivette

Grey eyes scanned the area once more before a slight tug on his trousers got his attention as the source being Fran who pointed him into a direction where he noticed someone who seemed to be sizing them up. He looked back at the prankster by his leg before pulling her along and heading over to the stranger with cap in tow.

“Finding it is…one word for it I guess.” He mused on the situation before he gestured to Fran by his feet who only seemed to be amused by how everything was playing out. “I think my Clefairy here figured it would be funny to try and place it on my face while I was sleeping.”

Flicking Fran on the forehead gently for her mischief, the Fairy Pokemon merely smiled before flicking him back at the exact spot causing the young man to smile at her antics, leave it to Fran to make light of the situation until he realized that the stranger was still waiting for her cap.

“O-Oh! Um..Sorry, h-here.” He passed the cap over to the Ranger before bowing slowly.” I’m sorry for the trouble my Clefairy has caused you.” He realized that he forgot to do the one thing that was customary to greeting new people.

“I’m Lucas and you are?”

Ivette watched as the rather humble boy directed her vision to his Clefairy, giving a nod of understanding afterwards. She figured that it wasn’t his fault. Heh, it was good that she didn’t just blow up at him! Not that she would have done that in the first place.

“Ah, gotcha, gotcha,” she said, nodding at him and rubbing at her chin. Being a ranger, she understood that Pokémon were as playful as they could be troublesome, and a mix of both could cause a bit of harmless mischief. “No worries. I understand.”

She gave a chuckle when she saw him flick the Clefairy’s forehead as she put on her cap. With a satisfied nod, she put a hand on her hip and happily introduced herself.

“Ivette, Pokémon Ranger. Nice to meet you,” she greeted, tipping her hat slightly with a smile. “Your little friend there is a big prankster, huh? Cute.”

“Oh! That’s great.” The blonde girl nodded, watching the Ranger. “It’s quite different over here. I find the water to be warmer, surprisingly.” Seraphina simply laughed, though. “You watch over this little town, then? Or are you stationed elsewhere?”

The swimmer girl looked out on the ocean, sighing happily. The sea was one of her favorite places, always becoming the constant in a busy world. The waves were gentle, and the waters were warm. She nearly got lost in the feeling. Her gaze, however, returned to the Ranger, to show she was still listening.

Riv let the other half-drag him along, propelling himself along with her. Riv also followed her along in the circles, letting out little noises of happiness. He nuzzled her slightly as they swam, smiling.

“Yeah, it makes me sound pretty cool huh? Ranger, heh,” Ivette leaned back a bit and watched the Floatzel in the distance rather blankly, not really observing them as much as she was just...blankly staring. “You noticed, huh? Hoenn’s basically islands of islands, so the weather here’s definitely gonna be warmer than Sinnoh’s. And uh, oh, I’m stationed at Route 119, actually. It’s a tropical rain forest. You should visit me some time!”

She grinned over at her for a moment before giving a sigh and shaking her head. “I get lots of company from the humidity and all, but you get kinda tired of it real quick.”

Delta seemed to smile back at Riv as they swam, albeit almost shy and humble. She traced lines and zigzags and more circles in the water, elated to still see him nearby... She stopped for a moment, then, deciding to stop in order so that she could simply float and rest. Charmed, she nuzzles up against his neck with a fond purr.

“23/7?” Quentin repeated to himself quietly. “You guys only get an hour to rest each day? That’s…I mean, well,” he struggled to find the words. It was one of the few times when the boy actually felt speechless. “What I mean to say is, you don’t know how lucky you are!” He looked up at the stars again, letting out a large and loud sigh. “I’d kill for an hour to do whatever I want. Instead, well, a scientist work is never done.”

Quentin began walking around in a large circle, waving his arms in the air. He was preparing for another large, neverending spiel about his line of work, what it all entails, and everything else Quentin is passionate about. After a deep breath he started “but that’s what science is! It’s the never ending quest for answers. That’s exactly what I’m doing out here. Looking for answers.” 

The scientist continues his explanation for a bit, rambling and ranting on before finally getting to his point.

“You hear about that place called the Old Chateau? That place has intrigued me my entire life. Everyone talks about the ghosts and spirits that inhabit that place. I don’t believe a word of it. So I’m going to check it out, get some readings, do some research, and then prove that there’s no such thing as poltergeists in that place. Now that’s why I’m out this late.” 

“And the name’s not ‘Mister Scientist’! It’s Mister Maestro…” the cocky look on his face was replaced by a more sour one. “On second thought call me Quentin, or anything else. I just hate the name Maestro. Got it Miss Ranger?”

Well, maybe Ivette was exaggerating just a little bit. She didn’t really work 23/7. It was probably something more like... 17/7? ...She’d never really thought into it that much, but, well, it felt like a job that left her only an hour of rest sometimes. Hey, she loved it every part of it anyway, really.

While this man spoke, the ranger gave him a strange look. A raised eyebrow and a little droop against her lips, she fixed her cap and put a hand on her hip. Boy, did he talk and talk, too. It was kind of funny, though, considering the fact that she was actually listening to what he was saying. Hey, what’s a person to do out here in the forest at night? Get bored out of her mind? Nah. This guy talked enough for her amusement.

...Then she heard that he was planning to visit the Old Chateau. Just the name seemed to alarm her, almost setting chills up her spine. N-not that she was afraid of it or anything!

“Oh, yeah,” Ivette said in reply, scoffing at nothing. She gave a nod in agreement to his statement. “Yeah, I don’t think the ghosts and stuff are real either. Just a bunch of stories made up so that kids don’t wander around, get hurt, and get lost in the forest or the chateau... I guess that you have a good reason, then. Still pretty suspicious, though. I... I-I don’t think you’ll find much.”

Quentin. That was his name then, huh? “...Ivette,” she smirked in a moment, finding the sass in his nickname for her rather amusing. This guy, really. “It’s nice to meet you, Mister Scientist.”

Seraphina laughed and nodded, thinking for a little bit. “It would be pretty awesome, wouldn’t it?” The blonde smiled as she thought some more. “Although, I was always in the water more then anywhere else, so you wouldn’t have been able to find my anywhere else.” Seraphina laughed lightly as she swished her legs in the ocean water.

Riv smiled and let out a noise of affirmation, nuzzling lightly against Delta as he did. His tails swirled in the water, and he tapped her paws again, letting out another noise.

“So, what brought you all the way from Sinnoh to Hoenn?” The blonde tilted her head, glancing over at Ivette.

“Hmmm...” Ivette paused and thought about that for a moment. She supposed that, since she was normally out at sea but in a boat... That made sense that she wouldn’t see her all the time. At least, she that’s what she guessed. In a way, that didn’t make sense to her either.

“Oh, yeah, uh,” she pointed at her hat and pulled at her orange vest. “Wanted to get a job as a ranger, and I got it. I got stationed over here in Hoenn, got my own route with another ranger and everything. That’s the gist of it, heh. I’m doing a pretty good job, too, if I do say so myself!”

Delta nuzzled him back, patting at his paws and shaking her tails for a moment before she slipped into the water with him. She swims around in circles for a moment, tugging on his arm a little bit and swimming about more.

The blonde sighed as she admired the sea around the town. This town was already super interesting, and she loved how the waves gently rocked the logs. Her legs kicked very slowly in the water, and she smiled. 

Seraphina’s eyebrows rose when she heard the shocked tone from the Ranger, though, and a grin formed on her face as she turned to focus on her. “Yeah, born and raised in Sunyshore. I love it there. You too, huh?” The blonde let out a quiet laugh. 

Riv swam over to her slowly, poking his face out of the water to look up at her. He made another noise, saying hello yet again as he came close. He pawed at her paw, smiling as he did so.

“You know it,” Ivette said, adjusting her still rather damp cap on her head. She chose to take it off in the end, though, realizing that her hair wouldn’t get any drier if she did keep it on.

“Born and raised, just like you.” She looked over at her, as if trying to remember her face if she saw it before. “A pretty weird coincidence, huh? You think we would’ve recognized each other or something, heh.”

Delta gave a small noise of thought as their paws touched, blinking twice observantly yet again before she leaned a bit closer so that their noises touched once more. This time, however, it was more of a gentle, friendly nuzzling.

Seraphina giggled when the Ranger wore a smile instead of a frown. With dry hands and arms, the woman fished around in her bag to pull out a map, soon locating the town she was now at. “Wow, Pacifidlog Town… This is pretty neat, if I do say so myself.” Her legs swayed in the ocean water, and she glanced over at the Ranger.

“I actually was swimming in the waters around that crater city, ahh…” She looked at her map for a moment. “Ahh! Sootopolis, yeah, that’s the place.” Seraphina nodded, tucking the paper map away. “The currents carried me here. Hoenn has a very nice ocean, very relaxing.” She shook her head in response to Ivette’s question, smiling. “I’m actually from Sinnoh, Sunyshore City to be exact. Seraphina, nice to meet you, Ivette.” The tanned woman smiled wide.

Riv initially came close to Delta, but recoiled at the nose tap. However, it seemed to be in play as he swam over to her again, making another greeting noise.

Ivette put her hands on her knees, nodding at her statement about the town. Pacifidlog was a great place, she thought. If she could live anywhere else from where she was currently stationed in Hoenn, then her first answer would more than likely be this place here.

“Sootopolis, huh? That’s pretty—” Ivette paused. Wait, did she hear right? Woah, woah, woah. No way. She stared over at Seraphina, blinking at her twice before raising an eyebrow. “Hold on...You’re from Sunyshore, too?”

Delta leaned over just a little bit more over the bridge so that she could see him, very gently attempting to paw at him. She makes a small noise, as if trying to call Riv to get him closer.

Seraphina couldn’t help but giggle a little, hugging her Pokemon before looking back at the ranger girl. Wait, what had she said? Fine her?

“… Uhh… what?” Seraphina gulped, staring at the Ranger with pale green eyes. “… Look, sorry ya got wet and all, but I’m not about to pay you out of apology or anything.” She laughed, dismissing her with a wave of her hand. The stranger wasn’t serious, anyways. “Anyways, I haven’t seen this small town before. Seems quite interesting. What’s this place called, anyways?” The tanned girl tossed her bag up on the wooden walkway, soon hoisting herself up to sit next to it. The woman got a small towel out of the side of the bag, wringing it out and drying off her arms.

Riv made a happy noise as he swam over close to the other Floatzel. He looked at the Ranger and made another noise, as if to say hello to her too.

Ivette stared down at her hard, a tight frown on her face as her eyebrows furrowed... Then she laughed a bit, expression relaxing as she did so. She shook her head and put her cap back on. 

“I’m just kidding. Rules like that’d be ridiculous,” she said, passively waving a gloved hand back at her. “Anyway, this is Pacifidlog Town. I’m guessing that you can guess why it’s pretty famous, huh? This kind of architecture is pretty cool, putting it lightly. At least, that’s what I think.”

After Ivette gave a grin and a brief wave to the stranger’s Floatzel, she sat down next to the girl and crossed her legs. “You must not be around from here, huh? Name’s Ivette. What’s yours?”

Meanwhile, Delta was still observing the newcomer, sniffing at him and leaning closer and closer... until their noses pressed against each other and caused her to blink in surprise. She shook her head and shrank back, paws holding onto the edge of the bridge as she continued to stare down at him.

       Tap, tap , tap.

The sounds repeated for a few seconds before a sigh escaped from his lips as he laid down the notebook and pen next to him. It was such an odd request from the Professor if it could even be called one to begin with.

“Go and have fun, Lucas. It’s not everyday you get a day to yourself after all.” He repeated the words to himself before falling back against the grass and groaned, there was some truth in what the professor said but even when he had time to himself, all he could think to do was work.

He took a moment to contemplate before deciding on a short nap, perhaps by the time he woke up, he would have an idea on what to do as he closed his eyes and let himself be pulled into the land of slumber.

Which was promptly interrupted as he felt something land on his face causing him to panic and quickly get up lest he suffocated. Grabbing the object on hand, it revealed itself to be an orange cap. Two questions came to his mind, whose was it and how did it land on him.

The ‘how’ was instantly answered as he turned to a giggling Fran who seemed to be ecstatic that her idea of a ‘prank’ worked. Sighing to himself, that left the other question remaining to be answered as he looked around the area for owner of said headwear.

      “Hello? Did anyone lose a cap?”

Ivette scratched the back of her head in an irritated manner, truly at a loss as to what could’ve happened while she was looking away for a mere couple of minutes or so. Honestly, she was a ranger! She was supposed to be super, mega observant. Geez, what a blow.

...She supposed that it couldn’t be helped, though. Besides, the culprit can’t have gotten that far with her cap. And it was such a bright color that there was no way that she could miss it when she did find its whereabouts.

She mumbled to herself in a grumpy manner, patting her head down for a moment before she began to walk in search of her hat. It was only a matter of time, then, when she heard someone calling out...

“Hello? Did anyone lose a cap?”

Yeah, someone did! Ivette popped up from behind a tree, head poking out as she squinted in a suspicious manner. A boy and a rather jolly looking Clefairy had her cap, it looked, but with the manner that he’d called out for the owner caused her to think that, hey, these two might not be at fault. Maybe.

“That’d be me,” she finally said, walking out from her “hiding place” with an open palm, as if asking for the cap. “Thanks for finding it, yeah? Though I gotta ask... Where’d you get this?”

The waters around Hoenn were some of Seraphina’s favorites. It seemed like half the time, she didn’t even need to swim. She just let the current take her wherever, and she would just float on the surface of the saltwater body. She kept a good grip on her bag, though. She had learned the hard way that the currents often wanted her items as payment for the ride.

The blonde finally raised up her head, watching as her Floatzel came up next to her, quickly placing a shiny object in her hands before diving back down again. This made her laugh as she clung tightly to this new treasure. “Riv,” she turned on her stomach, trying to look down through the water. “How far you heading down? Be careful.”

Riv had another idea in mind, though. He could see the shadows of logs cutting the sun’s beams from under the water, but something else caught his eye. Another one of his kind, oh boy! He raced up to the surface, propelling himself towards the female and kicking up tons of water in the meantime.

Seraphina gasped and swam over quickly, glancing at the more-than-likely soaked ranger. “Oh Arceus, I’m so sorry! Riv must have gotten excited…” She frowned as her Floatzel made a happy noise, greeting his new friend.

Ivette was, indeed, soaking wet. She didn’t move for a couple seconds, not exactly because she was in shock, but because she couldn’t believe the fact that she was so close to changing out of her ranger gear that she could have possibly avoided this situation. How unlucky was she?

…But since it was water, it was alright. The ranger took off her cap and waved it around a bit, droplets flying off of it as she did so. 

“It’s alright,” Ivette sighed, eyes closed for a moment before she opened them to see Delta looking rather surprised and confused at the energy of the stranger’s Pokémon. She simply blinked at him for a moment before greeting him back in a puzzled, observant manner… And then she swam back up to Ivette, sitting on the bridge and poking her nose out to sniff at him.

“I understand. These kinds of things happen all the time, and I’ve been through worse than just wet clothes, heh.” She put a hand on her hip. “Though, I’m gonna have to fine you for not taking control of your Pokémon in a public zone.”

Water You Doing?! || Seraphina & Ivette

Ivette had often found herself by the water. Water was where she was the most relaxed, but also the most energetic. Having been born in Sinnoh's Sunyshore City, it was only natural for her to have this fondness of anything that gleamed and shined a deep blue under the bright rays from above.

That's why she chose to spend her day off in Pacifidlog Town. It was definitely not completely like her hometown, but it was close enough. In fact, it was even more surrounded by water than Sunyshore was or practically ever would be. Now was her chance to bask in the glory of this place—and she was most definitely not going to spoil it.

"Alright, Delta. Come on out," the ranger called as she released her Floatzel from her Pokéball. The water-type gave an excited cheer as she landed in the water, as if she was asking for when Ivette would jump off of the wooden bridge she was standing on and come down with her. "Just give me a second and we can—"

And suddenly, Ive and Delta's conversation was interrupted by a jet of water.

What a Steal || Lucas and Ivette

Being a ranger meant having a job that became your life, basically. It wasn’t the type of job where you could really get over it once your shift is done and move on from there. It was a career that was more of a twenty-four/seven-type thing. 

That being said, it was common for Ivette to find herself taking a break. It was in the middle of the afternoon when she decided to sit down under a tree in Sinnoh’s Route 203 and eat the lunch that she had packed. She opened up her backpack and pulled out a simple sandwich and her thermos of coffee. 

"What a day,” she mumbled to herself, thinking about the...eventful things that happened today. Which was nothing, by the by. “I guess I don’t mind, though...” She took off her cap and placed it on the ground for a moment, opting to open her thermos instead.

It seemed that after her drink, however, her cap was nowhere to be found. “What the—I could’ve sworn that I just...!” She looked left and right, even standing up from her place. She scratched her neck and pursed her lips in confusion, wondering how she could have lost the orange thing.

Quentin held a finger out towards the ranger as he stared at the sky again to quiet them. He still clutched the book to his chest with his other hand. He bobbed his head around a bit, trying to see the stars through the dense forest canopy.  It took him longer than it should’ve. While he was still distressed from everything: dropping his book, finding someone else, and almost getting lost, the worst reason he had trouble was the bright light in his eyes. Quentin turned back to the ranger while squinting.  

“I’m, uh, I’m stargazing…navigation to be more specific.” Quentin raised a hand to his eyes, trying to block the light even more. “The stars are more reliable than a map. Terrain and obstacles change, the stars don’t.” Quentin gently pushed the flashlight away from his face, hoping it would give him a better view of the sky. He continued staring up, mumbling to himself, followed by scribbling notes in his book. He glanced over again. He could tell that the person he encountered was staring at him, and eyeing his book. That was the worst part. The book was special to him; he’d be lost without it.

Quentin closed his book quickly. He pushed his lab coat aside and shoved the book and hands into his pockets, trying to keep it out of sight. 

“I’m also a scientist. I’m suppose to be out here this late.” he turned back towards the ranger, his trademark smirk plastered on his face. “It’s my job to research and explain the new and unknown. That’s what I’m here to do.” Quentin placed a hand to his chin, rubbing is lightly. He didn’t like answering questions without asking a few of his own. “What’re you doing out here? Eterna Forest isn’t much of a tourist spot, but you certainly don’t look like a tourist. I answered your question. Now you answer mine.”

...Gee, this guy sure liked to get to the point, didn’t he? Well, not like that bothered her. It made things easier, she supposed. But she could actually also do without the fidgeting. He did seem real nervous or anxious, and that had only made her more suspicious. However, she could let that go a bit after his alibi. 

With her eyes scrutinizing him, she directs the beam of her flashlight onto the ground, an eyebrow having raised when he’d moved it away. He’d hidden his book, it seemed, which also caused her to develop a curiosity in whatever could be written in it. If he wasn’t lying, then it’d probably just be notes on the stars or sky or something like that... But that’s still interesting in of itself. 

“Easy there, guy. A scientist, huh?” She said, her tone showing just a bit of doubtfulness. Only a little bit. “Alright then, Mister Scientist. Since you so politely asked, I’m a Pokémon ranger out here doing my rounds. Well, not my rounds. Some other sap’s...” She shoots annoyed stare at an innocent tree root for a second before returning her stare to him and his seemingly cocky little grin. “Anyhow, I’d hate to tell you, and I hate to say it, but being a ranger is kind of a 23/7 job, y’know? Besides, it’s more logical for a ranger to be out in this haunted, spooky forest than it is a scientist.”

It was odd. During the day, Quentin behaved more like a child then the genius he supposedly was. He got lost at every turn, found the smallest and more insignificant object more interesting than the task at hand, and always needed someone, like his Lucario, to help him. Needless to say, Quentin didn’t live up to his bragging. 

Everything was different when the stars came out. At night, Quentin became himself. The stars and stories about them inspired the scientist from a young age. It all started with a small book, a journal filled with star charts and years of notes about the movement of the planets, locations of stars, and various other objects found in the nothingness. Though the years had changed him. his love of the universe never died. The darkness, the quiet, and the solitude all helped Quentin keep a clear head and, finally, think. 

Quentin spun around slowly, book in hand, and eyes fixated on the skies above him. The small clearing in Eterna Forest was perfect for stargazing. With the help of the lack of light, clear skies, and a few memorized star charts, Quentin was able to confidently tell where he was. He raised a finger to the air, slowing down his spinning while doing so. A particular star caught his eye, and Quentin kept his finger on it for a few seconds before moving his hand up in a straight line, focusing on a brighter star instead. He checked his book, and then looked at the star again. With a small nod to himself, Quentin set off at a steady pace in the same direction.

He bobbed and weaved his way through the forest he was in, dodging tree trunks and branches in swift movements, writing in his book the entire time, The twists and turns the scientist made were accompanied by the sound of various pieces of equipment in his shoulder bag jangling and small stifled bits of laughter. Any other traveller would consider themselves lost that deep in an unknown forest. Quentin saw it as the road less travelled, a new adventure, or something waiting to be found. It was possible that Quentin was the first to see this part of the forest. True or not, the thought excited Quentin. 

The scientist maintained his speed, occasionally checking the sky to make sure he was still going the same direction. He looked at all the sights of the forest as he passed, ranging from moss growing on a rock, a knot in a tree, fungus growing on a stump, a dirt road, and another person farther down said road…It seemed that young Quentin wasn’t as alone as he through. It was all a shock to him, and he came to a sudden stop. However, his prized notebook kept its momentum. It flew out of his hand and landed in the dirt. It was a few second before Quentin could comprehend the what had happened, and he quickly picked up the book after a small gasp, brushing the dirt off, and clutching it close to his chest. He turned to look at the other person out so late at night.

“Oh, uh…hi there.” he said, looking at the stars again, trying to catch his bearings.

Days off were usually meant for not working. Tonight was not the case. The Ranger that was stationed in Sinnoh’s ever-infamous natural maze, or rather, Eterna Forest, was absent, unable to perform his duties due to getting traumatized in the Old Chateau. Apparently, upon coming across the worn out and tattered building, he had a...ghostly encounter, and refused to return back to that place or anywhere near it. That included the entirety of Eterna Forest itself.

See, Ivette had been sent in last-minute, which had only added to her irritation. Apparently, since all the other Rangers had been occupied with their own territories for the night, they were unable to retrieve one who wasn’t on vacation. All the others didn’t know the area quite as well as she did, either. She had experience; they did not. She sighed. She sighed a lot tonight, actually.

“Dum dee dum,” Ivette murmured to herself, her tone plain and bland despite the little song. “Alone in the forest on my vay-cay-tion.” 

...Well, at least, she thought she was alone. As she walked around her route of the forest, she felt as though she heard something. Naturally, she assumed that it was just a Pokémon, as some were nocturnal and were thus active and noisy in the usually silent evenings... She kept walking, looking straight ahead on her path and ducking under branches and jumping over rocks and stumps when needed. Then came more noises. Louder and louder they got, and it didn’t take long for her to realize that these sounds were footsteps stepping on dead and fallen leaves on the grass.

...Alright, yeah, she was a little spooked. ...B-but of course, as a Ranger, she had to explore anything suspcious... ...E-e-even if it was a l-little...scary... 

Ivette shook her head. None of this nonsense! Her own footsteps became louder and came faster as she clenched her fists and tightened her jaw, repeating to herself that it was nothing, it was nothing, and that it couldn’t be that thing that the Ranger that was stationed here was blabbering on about... Ghosts didn’t exist, after all!! ...Right? Walk walk stomp stomp... Huh?

She stopped in her tracks. Oh. No... No ghost... Just another person. Phew, that was a relief. “Uh... Hey,” she replied to the man, a little confused for a moment as she watched something fly out of his hand. Then, she was suddenly very suspicious. She approached him, flashlight in hand as she gave him a curious look. “...Wait... What’re you doing out here so late at night?”
