I've been asked quite a few times about what exactly an environmental site assessment entails, and why it helps our environment. 

What is an Environmental Site Assessment?

An environmental site assessment assists property owners of environmentally hazardous sites such as brownfields diagnose the condition of their properties, and understand what environmental cleanup costs need to happen before any industrial activity can take place on the property again. 

Where Does the Money Come From

This is a difficult question to answer as it can come from a variety of sources. The previous property owners may or may not be responsible for cleanup costs, as they may have never violated any environmental regulations that were more relaxed during the time the hazardous materials were released into the property soil or groundwater. Local governments are quite often the source of revenue for the current property owners, as they want to see more economic activities in their area to help fund future tax revenue.
