Margaritas. Cheers to the new year!
Hiraya: SimilarObjects. I went through this blog's archives a couple of days ago, and I realized my posts have been very, very lazy lately. After a semi-existential crisis (Why don't I put two portrait pictures side by side anymore? Oh wow, I used to make covers for my sets? What happened to the mini-series I swore I'll complete? Is my life still worth living?*) I've come to a realization:
I will, once again, put two portrait pictures side by side. It's just prettier that way.**
*Just kidding. On that last question, at least.
**Pardon me. I'm being a drama queen.
PS: The pictures are rather stretched because I forgot to renew my Flickr Pro account, and it's only giving me the link to a resized version.
Hiraya: Bee Eyes (Set)
I once read an article comparing Bee Eyes' sound to one's first love -- dreamy, sweet, and crooning.* Since then, every time I hear one of their tracks, I can't help but see in my head a short film about young love, with young spirit and a dreamy haze hanging in the air.**
*I'm not sure if those were the exact words, but I'm sure the comparison is correct. I tried rummaging through my stack of monthlies to find the article for lifting, but with at least three purchased every month, the stack is quite huge, and for a single line, it wasn't worth the effort.
**Now, that's an idea. Hmm...
Hiraya: Ang Bandang Shirley (Set)
I think I was in the middle of experimenting with my settings during Ang Bandang Shirley's set, which is why some of the photos turned out to be quite weird. I can't place my fingers on exactly what it is, but something sets this set apart from my previous works, in a not-so-positive kind of way.
Oh well, everyday's a learning experience, right?
Hiraya: Ash Keachum (Set)
I'm horrible; I know. Just as I started posting again, with promise of more posts and more pictures, I suddenly go MIA again. Thing is, my laptop just suddenly decided to die on me (this bitch) and I'm left with nothing but hope and an inexplicably high repair bill.
Anyway, it's all good now, and this might have been a tad bit too late, but I'm gonna start rolling in the pictures I took last August 18 during Hiraya Arts and Music Festival in BGC. There are quite a lot, so I'm gonna break them down into posts of small sets per musician.
By the way, remember when I tried a hand at concert photography and I sucked bigtime? Well, I guess I must be learning, since a handful of these are quite decent.
Gonna post the others in the next few days, so stay tuned!
Hiraya: Behind The Scenes
I've never been very fond of the sun. Sure, I enjoy it for a couple of minutes, especially if I'm coming from an extremely cold room or recovering from a week-long downpour, but even then, I can only take so much before I finally give up and throw a fit.
Imagine my hysteria when we shot our publicity materials for Hiraya Arts and Music Festival in the middle of nowhere, with only grass and concrete ahead of us, at the height of noon. If I could have planted myself to transform into a tree, I would have.
I styled for this shoot using clothes from Chief Clothing. Check them out! They're amazing.

PPS: I know, I know. After being gone for a while, you'd think I've thought of wittier things to say. Sadly, I haven't.
Oh Wow
I didn't realize it's been that long since my last post. This place is a ghost town.
Anyway, I have a handful of pictures from a couple of places I've been these past few weeks. Give me some time to sort them out, and I'll post them here.
Stay tuned!
PS: Oh, and I've been on Instagram more than I've been on this blog for the past couple of weeks, so maybe check it out? I'm @enzopilarta.
Pumped Up Kicks. I'm pretty sure I speak for my entire generation when I say that when we were kids, Skechers was the shit. Everyone wanted one that it already became a status symbol. You're wearing Skechers? You're cool.
After ten years, through my eight-year old sister, I discover that it still is. This is the only kind of sneakers she agrees to wear -- Skechers have this line of metallic, glittery and illuminating shoes called TwinkleToes. She discovered them one day, and never looked back since.
Adventure Awaits. You know how you make all these plans for summer a couple of weeks before it actually begins? I'm pretty sure everyone has their list, and I'm also pretty sure that by the end of summer, not more than half is crossed out. Well, summer's officially over for me. (I never really count the first week of school as school since 90% of the time, nothing of slight significance ever happens.) And yup, not more than half of my summer plans had seen fulfillment. But anyway, I shall keep the list, and who knows, next summer might be a better season for adventures.
Adventure awaits. Next summer.
Dirty Whites. I absolutely love dirty white canvas sneakers. They just add a shock value to an outfit through their stark simplicity, and manage to carry an air that's both rugged and preppy at the same time.
After more than two years, I'm finally putting these bad boys to rest -- but not until I've secured a fresh new pair for me to tatter again.
A Year into Things
Exactly a year ago, I posted a (rather rambly) post -- my first ever on this blog. In it, I was listing down two life decisions I made after extensively arguing with myself (and I quote):
To go back blogging and try to improve my writing style and technique little by little which shall, hopefully, save me from submitting poorly-written papers to my profs and making a fool out of myself, and...
To play around with my DSLR (which has remain untouched for almost a year due to the mobility that a point-and-shoot and Lomo offer) and enhance my photography skills — if you can call it that. My skills are solely reliant on my very limited knowledge on shutter speed, aperture and ISO.
More than two hundred photographs, around a hundred and ten posts, and exactly a year later, here I am still -- posts becoming rarer and rarer, but nonetheless here. Well, regarding the list I made a year ago,
My writing style and technique has not improved, and, no, blogging has not saved me from submitting poorly written papers to my profs and making a fool out of myself. In fact, I can count with one hand the number of papers I’ve submitted that have actually undergone proofreading. (I've submitted more papers than my fingers and toes combined.)
My skills still have to be italicized every time I mention them because I'm not sure for myself if they exist.
Since I don't think I've made any major improvement from a year ago (and since this blog will basically be useless should those objectives be met), I guess there's no other way but up (and I mean that literally -- with the number of pictures I take, words I write, and time I spend on this little side project of mine).
So, hello. Here I am. Still.
PS: Notice the new layout? I sure hope you do because otherwise, well, you're blind.
Breakfast (or Hangover Remedy). Coffee and cigarettes -- I don't think there exists a more perfect breakfast (or hangover remedy) pair than these two.
PhFW: Premiere B Collection (Set)
My friends and I came and watched the Premiere B Collection (featuring the collections of Albert Andrada, Bandoix Flores, Butz Fuentes, Ezra Santos, and Kermit Tesoro) last Thursday during Philippine Fashion Week in the SMX Convention Center. As usual, we were (well, more like I was, but still) chasing time, and just manage to make it right on the dot, so there was only standing room left.
Given the situation, I wasn't really planning on taking pictures any longer since it's kind of pointless to. However, when Ezra Santos' collection started, everything was just so lush and exquisite that I decided to snap anyway, not even knowing how the shots would work.
As I was running through my photos upon getting home, it hit me -- photo after photo.
These aren't just runway shots -- these are representations of the fashion industry. Everyone wants to be part of it, yet it's very selective and accepts only a lucky few, and the only thing left to do for everyone else unlucky enough is gape in admiration.
Exclusivity is such an interesting concept.
Oh, and those shadows around some of the photos? Those are Solenn Heussaff's shoulders. Yep, I was so close to her that I can literally lick her hair, and unhook her bra if I wanted to.
PS: Sorry for the lack of updates this whole month. Summer classes have been more exhausting than I thought.
Hi, how and where did you make your dp on twitter? :)
Hi! Sorry for responding to this late. I haven't used Tumblr in a while. I used Photoshop! Haha.
Denise and Jara: Post-Shoot. In case you didn't notice I shot Denise and Jara's Young Blood in just one day. This is the three of us right after the (surprisingly quick!) shoot we had.
On an unrelated note: what happened to my hair? I wanna run a brush through my screen and fix it.
Aggy's 18th. There's one thing you should understand: when my friends and I get together, things can get rather chaotic. I went to Aggy's debut last Thursday in Makati Sports Club thinking I'd go home with a lot of photos. Well, let's just say my friends happened. (Not that I'm complaining or anything -- I love them.)
Anyway, here are a couple of shots from Aggy's all-white debut. I love how her reactions during the dances were diverse, if not honest. It was such a refreshing breather from all the smiling debutantes I've witnessed.
Like I said in my toast, here's to the fulfillment of Aggy's life dreams and aspirations! Love you lots girl! x
Beer. This has been quite a tiring week. I just need a drink right now.
