Eph’s 300th Memories
Happy Birthday Ephs!
March 7th, 2015, marks the 300th birthday of Colonel Ephraim Williams Jr. ,the college’s namesake.
In his last will and testament, Col. Williams called for the "Support and maintenance of a free School (in a township west of fort Massachusetts, Commonly Called the west township) for Ever." His estate provided $11,000 to carry out his vision- a gift that has since launched tens of thousands of others, allowing Williams to become one of the most highly respected colleges in the U.S. and the world.
We've chosen the occasion of his birthday to reflect on his legacy, considering broader themes such as the evolution of thought and transformative education and philanthropy. Col. Williams would not recognize the college of today; his gift had value far beyond his wildest dreams.
We also pause to celebrate the almost 30,000 Ephs who have made and continue to make their world a better place.
Happy Birthday, Ephs!
