considering that we basically know the Resident Evil universe has had different US presidents from our reality since at least 1996 (if you don’t believe me, here’s the Resident Evil Fandom Wiki’s page about US Presidents) do we think gay marriage was legalized at the same time it was here?
like generally I know the RE presidents follow the same general vibe as our reality because the whole “War on Terror” thing was still very present in the RE universe but like… they’re also clearly different in a lot of ways.
and we don’t even know who the hell was in office in 2015 because Benford was shot in 2013. like obviously we know there was one, but there’s no information besides logical inferences.
on a more silly note, Leon does work directly under the president so like… maybe that affected things in the RE universe.
idk just a fun little thought experiment this pride month. I think the most likely answer is yes it was still legalized nationwide in 2015, but I do think it’s fun to imagine if that wasn’t the case.
honestly, as much as RE4 is devastating, it is also fucking hilarious.
like what do you mean Leon is getting flirted with from literally every angle? everyone wants a piece and it’s so damn funny.
and even funnier is how he sometimes acknowledges it and other times fully does not. he can be a little oblivious at times, so that’s part of it, but you cannot tell me there aren’t times where he’s actively ignoring it for his own sanity.
writing a chapter outline and I've outlined two of ten chapters and the outline is already 530 words long.
...I might be going a little overboard in hopes I actually finish this fic.
(I feel like this is obvious, but just in case: Leon is a woman because she is trans in this fic. it wasn't just *poof* woman. and in case you're curious, this fic is post-RE5, Pre-RE6. there are more notes for this fic, I'm just showing off the outline so far because I think it's funny.)
...the outline for just chapter 3 is 860 words.
I fear I am flying too close to the sun here. but I really like this fic idea so I'm gonna keep flying.
and gosh am I having fun already planting miscommunication seeds. it's not normally a trope I like in other fandoms, but with Leon specifically it's like. a fact of life. Leon will not talk about her circumstances or non-op trauma (even that's limited) and this will make other people mad at her because they cannot assume what is wrong.
Leon please tell your "pretend" husband that you having an extreme ability to fall into a role to play is because of the US government. him getting irritated is pissing me off. (she's not gonna talk about it until probably chapter 6. idk I'm still writing the outline.)
a top 10 favorite thing about Leon for me is how he is so protective over civilians and that often makes them just as protective over him. he’s so babygirl that protecting him is just instinct. 😌

augh always thinking about how Leon really did have a choice in getting involved in RE2, unlike every other character in that game, but then after that he never had a choice again.
in a collectible in Umbrella Chronicles, (and I think in a couple other things,) we learn that Leon chose to go to Raccoon City as a police officer because of the “weird murders” happening in the area. and then in RE2make he’s directly warned not to go into the city, but even in the original there were absolutely moments where he could’ve turned around. it’s not like Claire where she still had to see if her brother was alive.
he made one choice to try and help people and then he got snatched by the government. :(
I love when I’m reading fics and they’re trying to temper things by saying Leon’s one of the best agents with the DSO. one of the most senior agents.
and then you read canon sources and it’s like “no he’s the agent.”
I headcanon Leon as gay 90% of the time and personally prefer Leon and Grace in a familial relationship, but I will defend Kennecroft shippers until the day I die.
partly because it’s just fucking weird to police what fictional characters people ship together, but also Kennecroft is so… baby’s first “problematic” ship. (I think calling any ship problematic is stupid, but using the terminology here is easier.) and this is in no way a diss to the ship or Kennecroft shippers it’s just very… normal?
is he nearly 30 years older than her? yeah, but they’re both adults. yes she is in her early 20’s and that would be creepy irl but we are also talking about characters that were literally fighting zombies the whole game. we’re not exactly talking about real life here.
is he also vaguely married to someone? yes. and? older vaguely married man falling in love with a younger woman has been a trope for how long??
did Grace call him mom? indeed she did, but considering that I don’t exactly think the game is woke enough to be implying Leon is a mother figure for Grace, it’s more to show that he is the first safe person for her after her mother died. does that mean she seems him in a parental light? possibly! probably, even. but that doesn’t even mean she’s not into him but we don’t have time or patience for that.
if you put a gun to my head and asked if I think Leon would ever date Grace or someone as young as her I would say no, sure, but if you ask Capcom they would say Leon is a straight man and would never end up with Chris and considering that I’m currently writing a Chreon fanfic, maybe other people’s thoughts on a ship they don’t like don’t really matter.
just block the tag if you don’t like the ship, it’s not that hard. you don’t have to virtue signal in the comments about how it’s wrong and bad. you’re allowed to just not like things. hell, the ship is allowed to gross you out! but that’s something for you to filter out of your feed, not make someone else’s problem.
genuinely I cannot stop thinking about the fact that it was Benford who coerced Leon into working for STRATCOM, (in the Darkside Chronicles cutscene directly says “we have the authority to do as we please with you”), and then later in 6 Leon calls him a friend.
and this isn’t a case of a character being rewritten or anything, before 6 the person who directly coerced Leon was a nameless, faceless government agent. it was 6’s guidebooks and other material that said it was Benford. they made a character and backfilled information.
like we knew Leon was coerced from the RE3 epilogue and the aforementioned Darkside Chronicles cutscene, but like. this is the epilogue:
“man who claims to be a government agent” is not very descriptive and they could’ve said it was anyone.
it’s very stockholm syndrome-esque like??? I know that stockholm syndrome as a real world concept is not backed by basically anything and is rooted in misogyny, but in this fictional reality I cannot see it as anything but tbh.
how Leon and Benford went from that direct act of coercion to friends is something I really want more fan content of because you really can go in two wildly different directions. like maybe Benford really did regret playing such a key role in Leon’s situation and really tried to make up for it, or maybe he was able to use the loneliness he helped force onto Leon for his own benefit. who’s to say!
y’know. I really love the whole trend of Leon going “oh you committed bioterrorism? then I’m stealing your kid.”
the Birkins? Sherry got yoinked.
Javier? he stole away Manuela. (though this is more of stretch since that whole incident was more Wesker’s doing if you really look at it but eh. he still injected his daughter with the Veronica virus.)
Spencer? Grace is his now too.
fuck we can even extend this to Wesker too if we really fucking tried. if Jake and Sherry get married that practically makes Jake Leon’s son-in-law. (yes I know that Leon has no legal attachment to Sherry but that’s her dad damnit.)
so in the RE universe don’t do bioterrorism or Leon will snatch your kid and make them his.
okay so Leon’s relationship with alcohol is not something I really talk about casually because I got family history and all that good stuff but I do wanna throw my hat into the ring about one specific aspect.
I definitely think that Leon soothes his emotional hurts with alcohol and it’s a very unhealthy habit, but I personally do not think he’s physically dependent on alcohol. not to say there’s no way he could be. I think it depends on how often you personally think he’s sent out. and I personally always think of him as basically always being on a mission or recovering from one.
so yeah he’s gonna drink when he has the time, and I think emotionally it falls into alcoholism, but I don’t think there’s the physical dependence.
like yes Leon could be drunk on the job, but I just personally don’t see it? I think he values making logical decisions over numbing the pain, personally. but I very much support anyone’s personal headcanons, I just wanted to say my piece.
edit: also I do think he happens to do jobs hungover, but that’s more accidental.
okay so in Darkside Chronicles during the alligator fight, I cannot stop thinking about Leon saying “that’s kinda sweet” about it pretending to be dead.
Claire’s immediate confusion is so funny. and he just does not explain at all.
y’know, thinking about it, Chris poaching a US solider for the BSAA probably should’ve had more consequences or pushback???
the BSAA is like. allowed to work in the US because the US is part of the UN, but from what I understand the US is allowed to restrict what the BSAA does on their soil and it’s pretty clear they would rather matters be handled by the DSO.
so. why was Chris just allowed to snatch a solider gyfykcykdtjd??? I am genuinely curious if this was ever explained or if I’m missing something.
planning a Chreon mission fic and I’m curious about something that will in fact decide stuff about the fic.
what’s the minimum about of chapters you would want for a mission fic where the stakes feel satisfying? (assuming the chapters are 1-5,000 words long and the relationship starts at friends and ends dating.)

definition for clarity’s sake: a mission fic is essentially a fic that focuses on a ‘mission’ (so the plot of a Resident Evil game), with an optional getting together or falling in love plot. a mission fic basically makes up and then follows an op the whole way through.
I don’t really know how to describe it, but there’s something very sweet to me about trans fem Leon Chreon.
obviously their dynamic can be sweet regardless of specific gender set up but idk. Chris is definitely like. supportive to an embarrassing degree for Leon who would rather just keep her head down, y’know?
AU where Manuela didn’t die at the end of Darkside Chronicles and Krauser steals Leon and her away to protect them from the government. 🫶
…I really just want metaltango to raise their daughter, man.
dawg she lit survived what r u talking about the death ending isn’t canon 😭
yes, I reblogged this post when I found out there were 3 versions of the final cutscenes.
but literally in my defense, no other cutscene in the game is dependent on how well you do so when I saw the first version I did not assume that it was the non-canon ending.
I’m literally halfway through the game, I just trusted another person’s playthrough while I’m still working through it which I feel is very valid considering everything else is consistent.
and also she’s literally never mentioned again so she’s like. still effectively dead? like she’s not. she’s in the custody of the government, but we’re still not likely to see her again unless they remake Operation Javier which doesn’t seem likely considering I feel like we really don’t see rail shooters outside of arcades anymore and I do not think there’s enough content of that story to fill a whole game in the remake style. not unless they add a lot. she wasn’t even referenced in the remake of 4 as far as I’m aware. (though I could be wrong about this, I’m still working through a lot of games.)
like you’re right, I was referencing the non-canon ending, but c’mon man :(. nothing else changes depending on how well you do besides your score and how much money you get. I didn’t look for another ending because I had no reason to believe another existed before I saw someone else say something.
