(This is a bit ranty I apologise in advance!) Honestly, at this point I'm kinda hoping Scott DOESN'T appear on the new seasons because of the way Trey/Matt have been changing characters personalities, like, image Scott FINALLY having a story/episode after all these years, just to be poorly done.. Maybe I'm setting my expectations too high but I really don't want a plot where current/watered down Cartman somehow 'redeems' himself or Scott for some reason forgives him… I just really care about these characters and don't want it to be a waste of potential, y'know? Anyways! Thank you for contributing to this part of the fandom, you've inspired me a lot!

If you'd told me this a few months previously or a year ago, I might have disagreed but to be honest, now that you mention it...yes, now I'm afraid that we not only have to worry about Scott not returning but also about his return being done in a...less than satisfying way.

Scott actually forgiving this toned-down version of Eric would be so anticlimactic... The potential for such an intense rivalry could be completely missed.

I absolutely understand what you mean! And it's sad to see that M&T seem to care more about commentary than the characters themselves these days... Hopefully if and when Scott returns, both he and Eric will have the characterization that we've all come to know and love.

I think one of the reasons why (not the main one) I've been struggling to be as interested in SP as I used to be is the direction Eric's character seems to have taken with the last few seasons.

I don't know whether it's intentional on M&T's part or not but he's been so much *tamer*...

No extravagant schemes, no explosive fits of rage, no bone-chilling moments of cruelty. Not that I can think of, at least.

Of course he's still funny, but other than that it feels to me like he's been kind of...there, lately. This being especially evident in the Post Covid Specials where M&T clearly wanted him to have become Jewish because it'd be the ultimate plot twist/joke, rather than because they actually think this would ultimately be his development.

Eric used to shock me, to make me gasp at the things he would do or say. To make me think "no, he can't possibly be that selfish/horrible/spoiled/evil/etc.", but he would prove me wrong every time. And that's what I loved most about him. That's what made me love him.

And, well... I haven't felt this way about Eric for a pretty long time. The last time Eric truly felt like himself to me was when he was dating Heidi.

Aside from "City People" (which does deserve an honorable mention) I have not re-watched any SP material that has come out in very recent years. I watch them as they come out and then mostly forget about them. While there are older episodes that I've watched more than 3 times and would gladly watch again.

Again, I can't know whether this change is intentional. Maybe it's just because Eric, like a few other characters in recent seasons, has taken a backseat because of Randy.

Anyway, I'm not sure where I'm going with this.

I just wanted to say, I miss the older Eric. And hopefully there will be some scenes more reminiscent of his old self in the new season.

Not just that, but Randy has pretty much replaced Cartman as the resident jerkass/sociopath of the show + the creators have been very open about that shift in direction the show has taken…I also heard that Cartman has became tamer solely because they grew to dislike Trump(?) but at the same time, Randy became more of a main character during that era so idk if this statement is true.

That is very much true, unfortunately... I just tried not to say it directly because I don't like thinking about it.

Um...what? It's my first time hearing about this. But didn't they already...dislike Trump? Wasn't that the whole point of turning Garrison into Trump? And Eric and Heidi were still dating while that was happening so...I don't know either🤷‍♀️
