About the Taos Film Festival taosff.org April 23–26, 2026, the inaugural Taos Film Festival shares over 100 independent filmmaking voices from New Mexico and around the world. TaosFF presents narrative, documentary, and experimental works in feature-length and short-form. In addition to screenings, TaosFF connects artists and audiences through Q&As, talks, events, and parties.
Taos Center for the Arts, the Harwood Museum of Art, and WildFlower Playhouse serve as primary screening venues. Eclectic pop-up events, parties, and creativity labs for youth and adults take place at partner venues, such as Hotel Willa, Atelier 111, TNT, and more.
TaosFF is a project of the Taos Center for the Arts (TCA). TCA has cultivated a robust year-round film program, observing what draws people to the cinema, what sparks hope, and what riles tensions. Beyond film, TCA hosts music, dance, theater, visual arts, and community events. TCA prioritizes collaboration and manages the innovative Inter-Arts Internship Program, which offers paid work-learning opportunities to area youth at arts & culture organizations across Taos County. Film Festivals have been a much-loved part of the Taos community before. Taos Talking Pictures (1995–2003), Taos Mountain Film Festival (2002–2009), and Taos Shortz (2007–2019) all generated a lot of enthusiasm and goodwill.
Taos is an elemental place full of epic contrast and true feeling. It is a home for families and communities that stretch more than a thousand years into the past. It is a creative oasis for wanderers of every stripe. It is a high-elevation desert scrubbed of all pretense by nature’s unrelenting intensity. Taos offers a front-row seat to technicolor sunsets and the phases of the moon. Taos reminds you, you are a speck. And you will be grateful for it.

On SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 20th, at 7pm, you're invited to the Film-Makers' Cooperative (475 Park Avenue South, 6th Floor) for a 20-year retrospective of the work of Erica Schreiner.
“Erica Schreiner’s videos span a 20-year period, charting her personal and creative evolution within that time frame, while also appearing to collapse time altogether. Her journey as a visual artist, performer and world-maker — beginning in her early 20s through to her early 40s — is crystallized here within the same gauzy, waxy, pastel-tinted medium. Schreiner’s work looks and feels like no one else’s; you always know when you are watching an Erica Schreiner video, and in this sense she is the definition of an auteur. There are influences and compeers, certainly. As the artist (typically in an enclosed and claustrophobic space) turns the camera on herself, adorns herself with wigs and dresses and glitter, devours fruit and chocolate and butterflies, and smothers her body in paint, one can’t help but think of Věra Chytilová’s candy-coated feminist classic Daisies, Jacques Rivette’s lush and otherworldly Celine and Julie Go Boating (both of which Schreiner cites as key influences) or Chantal Akerman’s gleefully anarchic debut Saute ma ville. Like Schreiner’s work, all of these films probe the tension between creation and destruction and reveal the power and agency in girlishness, whimsy, and so-called frivolity. There are also shades of Marja Samsom’s Super 8mm shorts from the 1970s, in which the artist — in a series of static, single-shot portraits — turns the camera on herself and engages subversively with apparatuses of traditional femininity and domesticity as her alter ego, ‘Miss Behave,’ thereby blurring the line between diaristic filmic portraiture and outright performance. Schreiner’s videos engage with all of these techniques, elements, and dichotomies through an intimate and hyper-feminine visual aesthetic, engendering connections to these antecedents while simultaneously transcending precedent altogether to emerge as totally original (and indelible) audiovisual evocations. Ultimately, Schreiner’s work invites viewers into a world that is all her own: one that reveals the softness in anarchy, the tenderness in ruination, and the capacity for creation amid devastation.”

Erica Schreiner: An Invitation to Love
Artist in person!
For the past two decades, the New York based visual artist Erica Schreiner has been working exclusively in the medium of VHS to produce a body of intimate and performative work that transcends time, technology, and prevailing trends. Schreiner’s gaze is personal and provocative, her color palette soft and subdued, yet her work does not shy away from hard truths. Painterly and confessional, Schreiner’s films are gestures to connectivity, reaching out with tactile sensuality. In An Invitation to Love, viewers are beckoned into the artist’s private world (Schreiner’s apartment), witnesses to a queer exploration of beauty and ecstatic consumption of its conventions. Through precise camera work and gut-wrenching examinations of desire, femininity, and heartache, Schreiner’s kaleidoscopic and vast inner monologue is laid bare, welcoming viewers to share in the dreamlike vulnerability and take part in its often startling catharsis.
