Will I ever go to a dance?
This is for all the young people everywhere, that find themselves wondering if they will ever get asked to a dance, find someone to take to a dance, or in my case even get the opportunity to go to a dance. I would like to start off by stating that I am homeschooled which means there are no dances for me to go to or a lot of guys that know me well enough to take me to a dance. I had an opportunity to go to a dance, Prom to be exact, but the guy that was taking me backed out and lied giving me an unbelievable excuse, and went with someone else. I was heartbroken not only by the fact that this good friend of mine, that I liked, not only lied straight to my face multiple times, but that I wasn't going to get to wear my pretty, sparkly dream dress. I wasn't going to have that moment I had thought of and hoped for, for months. Actually it was not "that" moment it was "those" moments. The special spots in time that I've watched happen on movies. When the couple first walk in and take in the beauty, or lack thereof, of the building, decorations, classmates and friends that are with them. The next moment is probably my favorite. When they are slow dancing.. I have had the experience of slow dancing, and I loved it. Slow dancing is something so different from everything else that it is indescribable but wonderful. I'm not just referring to going to a dance with a person you are dating or have a crush on. This person could be your best friend or even someone you don't know that well.
I had wished for and wanted these moments so badly and didn't get to experience it. I still haven't gone to a dance, but I've realized now that not going to a dance will not be the end of your life. Not going to Homecoming, Prom, or any other variation of a dance will not define you as a person when you go to college or when you're applying for a job. No, in reality there are things that everyone must experience and that will define you as a person. That will help you find the friends you will keep, and will help you when you go to college and after that, getting a job. These experiences can be anything from getting your first job, getting your drivers license to spending time with your family and catching up on that homework/ studying you've been needing to do.
So, "Will I ever go to a dance?" this question that you have worried over, this question does not need to be worried over. Because dance or no dance, boyfriend or no boyfriend, taken or single, dress or no dress you need to be you. Because no matter what you will be okay.
