“I’d imagine it’s somehow tied in with all the other stuff that went down. Maybe not a direct tie, but somethin' adjacent.” Eris shrugged, shaking her head. She couldn’t really be sure what had happened - she wasn’t there and she was glad for it. "Storm that size though, I’d put money on it bein’ the work of the supreme.”

What is going on with you and Alastair?

“We’re old lovers just tryin’ to find a bit of happiness where we can. I have a habit of bein’ drawn back to those I was connected with in the past, and Alastair and I have run into each other pretty often over the lifetimes I’ve had since we first met. Some part of me is still Madeline, a young girl with her parents wrapped around her finger who’s fallen for her best friend. And until the day ol’ Maddy is completely forgotten, some part of me will love him.”

How can you like Alastair? He's grumpy and seems like an arrogant snob.

“Really hit the nail on the head there, didn’t ya? He doesn’t just seem like an arrogant snob, he is one. Has been for as lon as I’ve known him. Still, there was a softness to him before he became the vampire you know him as, and I loved him. Sure I was a different woman back then, but emotions have a funny way of followin’ me from life to life, so I still care. Besides, he’s pretty decent in bed, and not half bad to wake up next to in the mornin’.”

“Heartbroken? Not a bit. A little disappointed we never got ‘round to seein’ which of us was right about his skills in bed - or lack there of -, but I’m honestly so happy to see him happy.”

Alastair’s mouth almost dropped open at the sight of Eris standing in front of him. She wore no coat, so there was nothing to hide the dress hugging every curve of her body. He cleared his throat, grasping for his normal dry tone. “Hello Eris, aren’t you looking lovely this evening? What was that about a ball? You want me to accompany you? Why Eris, you flatter me.”

Eris let a sigh slip from her lips as she shook her head, rolling her eyes and crossing her arms over her chest. Still, in spite of the irritated demeanor she put on, there was the faintest of grins turning up the corners of her mouth. “I look lovely always, one of the few perks to this curse of mine. If I was tryin’ to flatter ya, I would’ve said somethin’ like ‘I want to spend the evening in the company of the greatest man I’ve known’. Are you gonna change or not?”

Alastair had heard something about a big event tonight, but he hadn’t really been paying attention. There was an open invitation to whatever it was sitting on his kitchen table along with other mail, meaning he had read it, or at least started to. He had decided to make up his mind about whether to go or not that afternoon. He, however, was still writing and was not inclined to interrupt his muse…until it was interrupted for him. With a growl of annoyance, Alastair got up from his chair and headed to the door. “What?”

Eris hadn’t bothered with a coat, instead charming the golden snake draped in place of the back of her dress, but even with the warming charm she’d used she felt a chill in the air. Between that and the irritated tone Alastair had used, the blonde couldn’t help but feel a bit grumpy. “Don’t you ‘what’ me. Go put on something nice, you’re coming to the Bitter Ball with me. And hurry, before I decide I’d be better off going alone and finding better company while I’m there.”
