When the rubber hits the road, I think Russia's going to eventually have a falling away with both Iran and Turkey. Even Iran and Turkey aren't the best of friends, considering they both belong to opposing sides of the Sunni-Shi'a divide. Only one thing would unite Turkey and Iran from their sectarian animosity, and that would be the arrival of the Islamic Messiah, the Mahdi. And Russia? I think it will be in an uneasy alliance with the US, China and Europe fighting this evil "axis" of Ezek 38 and 39, just like in WW2, where they were in an uneasy alliance. But unlike WW2 which gave birth to the Cold War as it winded down, a short hot war ensues. These "Terrible of the Nations" (world military mights), which I believe reference them, will turn on each other. This turning on each other with nukes is what I think is being referred to in "unless these days were shortened, no flesh would be saved." Think of a thousand, two thousand or even more nukes launched in a span of 45 days (ref Dan 12:11-12).
