I think it would be cool if the mains act more like bosses than just randomized twisteds you're given to distract or avoid. And you get these bosses on their personal floor. The RNG should be more on the floor types instead of the twisteds. With certain twisteds you get certain mechanics to deal with
First is Vee. Since her floor is based off her game show there could be a quiz type of challenge like Mettaton's quiz show. You have to answer the questions correctly within a time limit. Answer it wrong three times and you're good as dead. The topics are completely randomized as well so it won't be the exact same question that you can memorize for next time. Answer enough questions correctly and you're free to go to the next floor AND get a reward. It could be a rare item like a medkit or boc or a rare card that can appear in the elevator
Then Astro's floor. It could be like a red light green light mechanic. You have to get to the other side of the floor before the song ends. When T Astro is sleeping you can move, but when he's awake you have to stop. If he catches you moving he takes a heart. If you fail to reached the other side before the song ends you're dead. The reward is 50 extra stamina.
With Shelly...Hmm...Her floor doesn't offer much. Maybe you have to find all the bones and put them together correctly. Or maybe you have dig something out of the sandbox and be careful with it. If you break it you lose a heart, break it three times and you're dead. You're only allowed to leave after you got the fossil out and put it on display. The reward is 50% faster extraction speed.
Sprout's floor is like his cooking show with memory mechanic. You'll be shown a list of ingredients that you have to use in the correct order. Get it wrong and you lose a heart and have to start over. Get it wrong three times and you're dead. You can only leave after three rounds of baking. The reward is a extra heart.
And finally Pebble, his mechanic is more of a game of fetch and tag. The goal is to just to survive long enough. Pebble is locked on whoever has his bone in their inventory. Pebble is very fast so the strategy is pass the bone to someone else and distract him while the other recovers their stamina. The reward is 50% extra speed. It may seem easy in the beginning but it does depend on the number of players and how well you manage your stamina.
Of course we can't forget Bassie, Gourdy, and Bobbette. Their floors only appear during their season of course.
With Bassie you have to find all the egg baskets before she catches you. Her flowers will still appear to slow you do. Find all of them and put them where they belong and you can leave. The reward could be double egg baskets or a extra item slot.
With Bobbette it's a lot like helping her completing the tasks she was struggling. Put up decorations, wrap the presents, and bake the treats. Those will have quick time events like the machines. If you fail she immediately takes a heart. Once the last task is done you can leave. The reward could be double ornaments or shorter cooldown on the ability by 15%.
With Gourdy you have to find all the treats and give them to him. But there's also tricks to look out for. Either they could be traps in disguise and take a heart or you give it to him and it makes him so made he takes a heart. Once he's happy you're free to leave. The reward could be double pumpkins or 50% more stealth.
With boss floors it breaks up the repetitive gameplay of just completing machines. I always felt weird for the mains to have their own personal floors and they just do nothing special about. It's basically just like all the other floors just customized to each main. Not only they can gives challenges but also rewards for completing these challenges to help with longer runs.
I don't know if this would be balanced gameplay I never made games and I'll never learn how, this is all just ideas.
