The Evolution of My Art: Breaking Resistance & Embracing New Challenges Taking time to really challenge myself with this new work. I’ve been resistant to relational, objective subject matter for a while, but I finally found ideas I actually want to try. The process isn’t new to me—I know how to work through it—but I haven’t practiced in this way for a long time. Working in mixed media with oil pigment mediums and cold wax allows for such deep saturation, and I’m loving the quality it brings. It’s adding a new voice and choice to the work. For these pieces, I pulled two images from my secret stash on Pinterest, mocked up what I was envisioning, and worked early layers of the paintings to photograph and impose the subject matter until it felt just right. Riding waves of momentum after delivering a commission last weekend to a very happy client. So exciting! I’m definitely open for more commissions—give me a theme to work with, and I’ll make magic, bringing an amazing energy to enhance your space. Let’s create something powerful. Studio Post & Notes Happy Spring, dear art makers and enthusiasts! As we welcome the season of renewal and growth, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to create and share my passion with you all. This week, I embarked on a new artistic journey with two large 24" x 24" works on paper and four small 12" x 16" on paper. I won't deny that some days were more challenging than others, and I found myself struggling to find direction and purpose for these pieces. But every time, I reminded myself of the joy and fulfillment that comes from the creative process, and with a few minutes of warmup, I allowed myself to play and experiment with graphite, chalk, and pastel doodles. It's amazing how these little moments of playful exploration can lead to breakthroughs and new directions for our art. I hope this post inspires you to embrace the process, to let go of the fear of uncertainty, and to trust in your own unique voice and vision.
