Anna Malina: Recent Work
Anna Malina just followed me on twitter* and it reminded me that I have wanted to post some of her recent work. I featured her work twice (here and here) when I was curator at Cross Connect and she is one of my very favorite artists. She always surprises me with her work. She does so many interesting things. The other day on Instagram I saw something she posted where she used the moving selection animation, you know the lines that animate around the edge of the frame…as part of a piece.
That is very Anna Malina. Torn photo edges, hand colored photos, traced images, frame numbers, cut out text scribbles - all find their way into her work.
She a collage artist, a romantic, a experimentalist, a deconstructionist, a historian.
In the end, though, her work is always beautiful, especially when it is moving.

if you’re into gif art, you should follow @the-art-of-animated-gifs. David frequently features interviews with gif artists and reflects on gifs as an art form, something that’s still being done too rarely, i think. i myself often go through loops (ha) of thinking that making gifs is not enough, even though my bachelor’s thesis was partly about gifs as art. it’s of course perfectly fine to make longer form works as well, and i do need that too. but the gif is a great unique form on its own and it’s good to have people articulating this.
Geared up for game day.
Football fans have a new way to get into the game at the recently opened Mercedes-Benz stadium. The Atlanta Falcons and IBM teamed up to create an immersive fan experience. A mobile app and connected sensors throughout the stadium allow fans to do things like reserve parking, order food and get step-by-step directions to concession stands, restrooms and more. Now, no matter which team prevails, it’s a win for fans every time.

Typical Hope: New Work
Cross Connect favorite Typical Hope has been featured in these pages twice previously. The artist prefers to remain anonymous and let the work speak for itself.

Watching old episodes of Parts Unknown and being struck by little moments like these. What an extraordinary tragedy.
