"That's the socialism that— I don't know why we have to label it within the party." It really is that simple. Democratic Socialism is the very simple idea that the American government should help working-class people instead of funneling more and more wealth to the oligarchs. It's the idea that you should be able to get healthcare without going bankrupt. That you should be able to afford a house for your family. That your kids should get a good education. That we should spend our money here in the U.S. instead of wasting it overseas in support of genocide. Predictably, the MAGA loons came out of the woodwork to attack Hunter as a "communist," which is the reheated, pathetic narrative that Republicans are desperately trying to push ahead of the midterms. They can't argue policy and have nothing to offer the American people beyond more corruption, more wars, and more shielding of pedophiles. So they're resorting to lazy red-baiting. Politicians like Mayor Zohran Mamdani have proven that not only can Democratic Socialists win, they can thrive once in power. He's incredibly popular and is reminding his city what it looks like when a leader actually cares about improving his constituents' lives instead of enriching himself. We're done playing their games. This wasn’t ideal, as the plant was supposed to be churning out urgently needed artillery shells for Ukraine. The robots, giant metal arms with clamps for hands, would end up drenched in oil, which would then — no surprise — combust as they moved steel blocks heated to 1,800 degrees into and out of a machine that periodically erupted columns of fire. One blaze that summer melted a robot’s cables, putting it out of commission for a week.

Soon problems seemed to explode out of every corner, according to interviews with 12 former factory workers. For one thing, the flaming robot arms also kept smashing into things. They slammed into computer numerical control machines, breaking their windows and bending their doors. They knocked over shells. They bashed into safety fences. Workers talked about the arms going “rogue” and began calling one of them “Johnny 5” after a sentient military robot from a 1980s movie.Â
Even simple equipment failed with slapstick regularity, six workers said. Conveyor belts broke down. Automated carts got lost. Safety gates meant to shut down machines when workers approached did not shut down machines when workers approached. A pipe exploded, spraying water up to the ceiling. Parts on Repkon machines deformed, leading a worker to discover that they were made with Chinese steel, possibly in violation of federal regulations. (The Army said it has no evidence of such violations.)

Like during his first term, President Donald Trump is trying to meddle in the U.S. Census.

We are comprehensively screwed by having President Donald Trump run the country into the ground a second time, but one of the worst things about the timing of his presidencies is that he gets to mess with the U.S. Census—twice.
But like most things in Trump’s second term, this is far, far worse than the first time around.Â
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick announced Tuesday that he’s going to save us billions by just having the postmen—yes, he says “postmen,” because god forbid any of these scumbags use inclusive language—do the census rather than actual census workers going door to door.
“The job of the Census is simple: go to every house and count every person,” he said. “That is why we are working with the U.S. Post Office to more efficiently and accurately complete the count. Postmen already know where Americans live, and their expertise will save taxpayers billions of dollars.”
Yes, because if there’s one thing this administration is really committed to, it’s being good stewards of our taxpayer dollars, right?

Last year, Trump instructed Lutnick to start working on a new census, one that didn’t actually seem pegged to when we actually have a census—which is supposed to happen in 2030. You will not be surprised to learn that this is also part of his fixation on losing the 2020 election.Â

But it’s also being done for a reason, and it’s the same reason that Trump tried to screw with the census during his first term: He fervently believes that he should not have to count immigrants and that cities—especially blue ones—should have fewer people recorded so the federal government can give them fewer resources.Â
As with his first term, Trump is demanding that any undocumented immigrants simply be left out of the census, which also guarantees an undercount of people in cities. How, for example, is the postMAN going to count who lives in a giant apartment building simply by delivering mail?
Undercounting cities, of course, can also decrease the number of House seats in blue states. California has roughly 1.6 million people who are part of populations that are difficult to count and could therefore lose a House seat.
But that’s not all. Population data from the census is used to dole out $1.5 trillion in federal funding, so undercounting means that marginalized communities would have less access to funding for education, healthcare, and more.Â

But it’s also going to hurt rural communities.
Rural areas are already hard to count, with houses spread out, hidden from main roads, and often without physical addresses. The postal service maintains roughly 21.2 million P.O. boxes and 1.3 million no-fee boxes. The latter are people who can’t receive any form of carrier delivery.Â
In Alaska, for example, an estimated 75% of people do not get mail delivered to their homes. And Native Americans who live on reservations often do not have a residential delivery service.
Just like what he tried to do in his first term, Donald Trump is trying to manipulate the US Census, such as using the USPS instead of the US Census Bureau’s workers to conduct the Census and not including undocumented immigrants in the count.
This insane proposal not only harms cities, but also rural areas.
