MATTHEW DADDARIO / ETHAN BRIDGE is a twenty-nine ( 29 ) year-old cismale in the CONTROL DIVISION. he was invited to join the academy because of his powers of SELF-DUPLICATION and TEMPORARILY GIVING OTHERS HIS APPEARANCE/BODY. honestly, they can be pretty reclusive but make up for it by being cautious.
What’s up everybody? This is my boy Ethan Bridge, brooding Winter gear aficionado! Sorry for this intro being kind of long. I’m down to plot, just like this post and I’ll message you and we can figure something out! Or feel free to assume connections if you’d like whenever we interact.
Ethan’s rather relaxed. A tad bit anxious deep down due to the nature of his powers, but has now become a kind of go-with-the-flow guy ever since arriving at the Academy. He’s calculated and cautious, if only because he’s had an incident (below) that caused him to spiral out of control with his powers. As such, he likes to wear huge clothing that covers his skin and dislikes being the center of attention. At the end of the day he’s a loyal friend.
Ethan grew up in a relatively well-off home in upstate New York, born into a bubble of middle class privilege. The first eighteen years of his life were particularly uneventful and uninspired. There’s not much Ethan can reflect on in his childhood that he can decisively say changed him or left a mark. His parents loved him, he had a couple of good friends, and everything seemed to be going well for him. In fact, looking back, everything that happened before he got his powers almost seems to be a blur.
And so it happened one day of senior year one uneventful weekend. Ethan just split into two identical copies of himself, both under his control, both him, staring down at one another. It freaked him out at first, as would that to anyone, and the panic began to settle on him. Panic turned to multiple things. Intrigue, disappointment, excitement, to name a few. Some of his friends, ones that were lucky enough to have them, had gotten cooler powers: elemental control, speed, strength. And here he was, finally with a power of his own. So it was duplication that he was stuck with. There’s not much Ethan can say about duplication. He never used it for pranks or wrongdoing, but it did come in handy for managing multiple tasks and the pressures of being an eighteen year old. Still, even with self-duplication, his life was rather uneventful, and continued to be so up until around college. He’d enrolled in a small, private liberal arts university studying Sociology nearby and continued on with his life.
Sometimes he wishes it was just just duplication. But as he matured, so did his powers, and then came the unrest. It happened one day as he was hanging out with a group of his friends getting dinner. They gave him hugs, did their handshakes, and all let out a scream as one by one they turned into him. In his group of five friends, all of them looked exactly like him. And it didn’t stop there. They, too, touched and interacted with other people, and those people started turning into him. Soon, chaos ensured as the halls of that small, private university was filled with people who looked exactly like Ethan, all terrified and confused. The entire campus was quarantined for a day until they could figure out what was going on.
By the next morning, a little over twenty-four hours after the incident, everyone woke up as themselves, back in their own bodies and ready to continue on with their lives. But the incident would go down as the Ethapocalypse, and forever changed how everyone thought about him. Every time someone so much as touched his skin or, God forbid, touched his fingerprint on a cup or plate he had left his DNA on, they would turn into him. His normal, run-of-the-mill life had been turned upside down almost instantly, and he withdrew into himself, feeling anxious at the thought of even seeing his face in a reflection. Ethan quit school to move back home in hopes of working on controlling his powers.
Things seemed almost hopefully for a bit. He lived a reclusive life interacting very cautiously, always wearing outerwear that covered his skin and anything that could cause people to turn into him. So when the Headmasters reached out to him, explaining that they could help control his powers, he was more than elated. Ethan gladly took the offer to attend Lusus Naturae under the control division to help contain and sharpen his control over his powers while continuing his studies.
The power dampener helps, he’ll admit. The moment the device was placed onto him, he felt a huge sigh of relief. That’s not to say that his powers still aren’t contagious. If anyone else were to turn into him, they could easily still infect others. But he’s more assured and cautious about the whole situation, and can finally take it a bit more easy.
