Tell Me the Truth | Peter & Dinah
âIs competitive Marco Polo a sport? Because if it isnât, it should be, we could actually win that.â Peter chuckled. âI really think she will, sheâs gonna see how much we love each other and totally change her mind, she just needs time to get to know the real you.â Peter explained. âWorse than a few days ago doubled.â Peter told her. âI donât know if you can imagine this but my parents are⊠theyâre so loving and helpful but they are⊠Catholics and they are old fashioned.â He explained, letting out a frustrated groan. âSo when I introduced them to a man I was dating for the first time it got ugly, just⊠really ugly. My mother cried and told me she couldnât imagine living in heaven without me but if I kept that up I wouldnât be there.â He explained. âSheâs since⊠lightened up but⊠I bet sheâs pretty glad youâre a woman.â He explained. âExactly, you wouldnât say that to someone else, you shouldnât say it to yourself.â He explained. âI donât know a lot about a lot of things, but I like to think I understand enough about the world to know that⊠itâs not your fault.â He explained. âHey maybe that would make someone appreciate their family more, I already appreciate my parents more just listening to you.â Peter snickered. Even as Dinah apologized for lashing out Peter felt like he was dying. How could he be so stupid? How could he try to excuse it? As she began to explain that sheâd been assaulted by men who thought she was a prostitute he took in an angry breath. âThatâs horrible thatâs- thatâs⊠Iâm so sorry that happened to you.â He said, searching for the right words but pausing when she asked him if heâd done something similar. Peter wasnât an angry person, hardly ever, but something about that notion really irked him. Still he didnât raise his voice but was quick in telling her. âNo, of course not.â He said seriously, pinching the bridge of his nose and exhaling. âDinah, please, thatâs not, thatâs not me⊠I made a stupid mistake but that isnât me.â He said, his eyes tearing up again. âYou want to know what happened? I was on a job in Amsterdam and I was taking some pictures, and she was in front of this building and I asked to take her picture and then we talked, and she told me I was cute and⊠my first real girlfriend and I had just broken up, Iâd been drinking most of the night and it felt so good to have someone tell me I was good looking because really that wasnât⊠nevermind itâs⊠itâs not important. What is important was she told me a price, and I paid it and that was it, really.â He described, his voice trembling. âI never even considered doing that again⊠I wouldnât I⊠Dinah I am so sorry for what happened to you, whoever did that was⊠horrible and evil.â He said. âPlease, please, please, I know that it probably really hurt you but please⊠please know Iâm better than that.â
âWe should totally do it.â Dinah nodded her head. âMaybe... I will try to get her to like me. I really will.â She assured her boyfriend, not wanting him to think she doesnât make any effort. âGosh.â She shuddered; the poor old boyfriend of Peter, she couldnât imagine anything worse than two days ago. âAt least they are loving and helpful.â She shrugged her shoulders, knowing her father was just a religious fanatic and her mother was useless, âGoddamn, thatâs awful.â She shook her head. âAt least I have that going for me.â She rolled her eyes. âBut, Iâm not someone else. Iâm pretty awful.â She shook her head, letting to a distressed sigh. âIâm happy.â She told cynically. âYeah, okay.â She stated blatantly, wiping her eyes as Peter apologized for what happened to you; he didnât have to be sorry, he had nothing to do with it. As the man panicked and began to ramble on, describing what happened, Dinah decided to listen to him. âOkay.â She told him, taking a deep breath. âI know youâre better, I'm sorry. I freaked out.â
