There are hundreds of ways you can play around with images making them transparent as well as typography. This is when thinking outside the box in terms of design is crucial to making a fun design.
Graphic Design response pg. 140-153
Based on the different images in this reading, i feel like sometimes adding more layers can make the image too busy but it all depends on the formatting. If they are formatted in different ways it could also make room for negative space making it less busy.
Graphic Design response pg. 128-139
I think basic typographic layout is crucial for any type of design. From a package design to a table of contents. Sometimes i find something and it is laid out so poorly where it’s confusing to read things in order. I think keeping the layout and the wording simple is effective to make it easier on the eye to read.
Graphic Design response pg. 116-127
In terms of framing, i know the rule of thirds plays an important part. The eye is naturally attracted to balance and if something isn’t properly balanced or framed it becomes unsettling to the eye.
Graphic Design response pg. 108-115
I liked the sketches in this part of the reading. For one of my other DTC classes we were encouraged to sketch most of our ideas and just let our imagination flow. I think once you start sketching the concept, more ideas start to flow therefore you get more and more ideas and you could choose one you like more than the other.
Graphic Design response pg. 98-107
One thing that makes something powerful in terms of design is typography. Reading this part i learned there are different ways to layout your text to make the project interesting and give it character.
Graphic Design response pg. 90-97
Reading this part in the book makes me realize it’s important to have a color pallet for anything you are working on. I think it helps you keep the design organized in terms of the color scheme.
Graphic Design response pg. 80-89
Working with the color wheel is such a useful tool. I remember in one of my classes we were assigned a project of making a color wheel in any way we wanted. Since then, one of my focuses on my design projects were making the colors look pleasing in a way by looking at the color wheel. Having colors that compliment each other can make the design itself pleasing to look at.
Graphic Design response pg. 68-79
I think working with texture requires a lot of imagination. I have seen puzzles made of tiny, tiny images but those images are meant to create shadows and highlights to create a bigger picture. The colors and the patterns in which these objects are laid out is helpful to create texture. Good lighting can also help emphasize these textures.
Graphic Design response pg. 60-67
I think playing around with the scaling in a design can be really fun but it is also crucial to making the design look good. Messing around with the scaling in fonts can also add emphasis on the word like in festival posters that make the bigger artists name larger than the smaller ones.
Graphic Design response pg. 49-59
One thing this reading mentions is balance. I know that is one of the things i noticed that i would focus on with my projects. I also tried working more on my patterns and formatting to make my projects more well put.
Graphic Design response pg. 41-48
Repetition is also keep to creating depth in designing and art. I know apps like Illustrator and other drawing apps have this option.
Graphic Design response pg. 33-40
Reading this part of the book makes me realize how points, lines and planes make pretty much everything that we see in the real world and digital world. It stands out to me how we can use these three elements and manipulate them any way we want to create something out of it.
Graphic Design response pg. 25-32
I think it’s important to embrace our alter egos, not just as an artist but as a regular person. Having an alter ego could help us explore our imaginations and think from a different perspective therefore having new ways of creating art.
Graphic Design response pg. 13-24
One thing that stood out to me was how the author would compare graphic designers to top chefs. “Top chefs remind us that a great dish depends on top-notch ingredients.” As a graphic designer it is important to strive for our best work and treat it just how a chef would present it to their guests.
Graphic Design Response pg. 1-12
I can relate to the part in Beyond the Basics when the author says that rather than focusing on practical problems such as how to design a book, brochure, app or website we should focus on experiment, pretty much thinking outside the box on how to design something. I think it is important to experiment and try new methods rather than get stuck in the same routine of doing things.
