It's *almost* time to kick off one of my absolute favorite traditions: Keeper Summer!!!!!
Since I don't have Book 10 for you (YET! Working super hard on it, I promise!) I thought we should celebrate with the next best thing: amazing KEEPER art!!!
So over the next four weeks, I'll be sharing four all-new character portraits I commissioned from the brilliant @chrissabug-and yes, it'll be new characters you haven't seen her draw before!
Here's a sneak peek - and I have a feeling you'll all be able to guess which characters you'll be seeing. But trust me, the full portraits are going to knock your socks off. Can't wait for you to see them. Check back on Tuesday for the first reveal!

check-in!! :] i'm currently reading Liner Notes for the Revolution: An Intellectual History of Black Feminist Sound for the music square, so after that I'll have a bingo! i've been combining with another challenge, so I've had some fun looking for pretty specific choices (like I combined not originally in English with children's book for The Little Prince).

I was looking back through some old photos today, and I found my book signing photo with Shannon Messenger from the Flashback tour seven years ago. I remember that she told me to hold up my books for the photo "in case I forget who the strange lady in the photo is." I laughed SO loudly, and she went "It could happen!" and I was just thinking, "She has no idea." I had been into the series for 5-6 years then, and now it's been 12-13 years, and I've been reading it longer than so many of its fans have been alive. And I just still think about that moment, Shannon Messenger, the only "celebrity" I've ever been a fan of and met, telling me I might forget why I have a photo with her, and laugh.
okay. like. i know tam and linh are drawn pretty light-skinned in most of the official art, but if you color them lighter than your white characters, i am giving you a MASSIVE side eye.

what if elves teeth get destroyed after 100 years of living so they replace their teeth with crystals and sophie doesnt know this because they use white crystals and no one ever thought to tell her this. elwin checks sophies teeth and see they got destroyed by human food or whatever and hes like oh yeah its time for the crystal teeth procedure and shes like the what.

Ooh! I saw that people were sending in Black music recommendations! I've been working my way through the book Liner Notes for the Revolution: The Intellectual Life of Black Feminist Sound by Daphne A. Brooks, and while I've been reading it, I've been working through the accompanying playlist of songs/artists discussed in the book. I would definitely recommend both!

as to your tags about my favorite 2025 reads—if you read poetry at ALL, PLEASE pick up Call Us What We Carry by Amanda Gorman. I'm begging. She's my favorite modern poet, possibly my favorite ever poet, and I am so obsessed. I almost never buy a book immediately after reading it, but I had this book en route so fast. It came, and I was carrying it around with me, performing excerpts to my family and friends, shoving pages in their face for them to read while I looked at them with big wet eyes and they went ....uh huh.
But I HAD to have it, so I could reread my favorites over and over until they're tattooed on the back of my skull. I know the exact page number of "Alarum," page 63:
MAN IS A MYTH IN THE MAKING. WHAT IS NOW DUST WILL NOT RETURN. TO SAY IT PLAIN IS TO TELL ONLY HALF OF THE STORY. DOES THAT NOT MAKE YOU GO CRAZY. DO YOU NOT WANT TO PUNCH A BUILDING DOWN. pleaseeeeee
