Eyeing one of the watches for a moment, he pulls it out of the bag to slip on, grinning as he admired it. Sure, it wasn’t a Rolex but it was handmade (who handmakes a watch in this day and age??) and Miles didn’t already own, so it was a double whammy.

At the mention of Noel though, his attention snaps back to Lyn, face soft in surprise. He reaches for the music box immediately, carefully twisting it in his hands to look at every angle before opening it. His small his small but big enough for his teeth to peek into sight and for the lines around his eyes to wrinkle as he listens to the lullaby and watches the scene inside unfurl.

He’s completely lost for words, so it takes him a moment before he’s able to thank Lyn. “It’s… Wow, man. Y’didn’t haffta go through all o’the trouble t’make this… It’s so sweet, thank you.” If Lyn were to squint and look closely, it might look like Miles was getting a little teary eyed.

If Lyn were to vibrate any more with seasonal excitement, he might spontaneously combust and shrivel to ash, but oh does he love giving gifts. It makes him feel all warm and fuzzy to know that his gifts are appreciated and useful to those he cares about.

And yeah, their relationship, whatever it is, is vitriolic. But he does care about Miles. And the guy has a kid on the way. He’s definitely going to need a watch and music boxes everywhere as far as Lyn understands.

Miles’s reaction softens the inventor’s grin, ad he regards the other with nothing but warmth and empathy.

“Sure I did,” he says softly, carefully placing a firm hand between Miles’s shoulders, unsure if what he’s doing is necessarily comforting even if it seems natural. “I’m not gonna make trash for your kid. I know our friendship or whatever it is isn’t exactly, like... close. Or warm, or fuzzy, or cuddly. We’re a pair of complete assholes a lot of the time. But I see a good spirit in you. Literally. Figuratively. Honestly. I’m glad to know you, dude.”

There is nothing better than a handmade gift. Even those beautiful socks that Lyn will wear every day of 2019.

“Dude, this is so cute!” he says, grinning, grateful. For now he shoves the duck-shape and the socks into his vast pockets, just clutches the tool set in his hand. “I knew you liked me. Like all this time. Oh! And! I have a couple things I want you to have. I mean, I finished the commissions and all, but I made a couple extra bits. As gifts, you know?” Lyn practically vibrates with Christmas cheer, indicating the bag he’d very carefully lowered to the ground when Miles handed him this beautiful array of gifts.

Okay now, that reaction is just plain precious and boy oh boy, between Lyn’s utter look of delight at the sight of the duck and his compliment, Miles is swelling up with such a strong sense of pride.

“‘Course it’s cute- y’expect any less from me?” Miles’ chest is puffed out a little, grinning quite smugly. He does deflate at the accusation though, scoffing and rolling his eyes, “Yeah yeah, whatever. Yer alright but I don’t like ya.” He’s joking. Probably.

“Oh, uh-” Didn’t really expect to get anything from the fella but he’s quick to reach out for the bag, ready to reach in and rummage around for whatever was hiding in there for him. “Y’didn’t godda do that…”

It’s completely deserved pride and utter cockiness, and Lyn gives him a free pass, grinning at his comments rather than responding with an acerbic snipe as normal. He barely even responds to Miles’s deflection. Sure he likes him. Even a tiny bit. And even if he doesn’t truly like Lyn, he’ll probably like the presents, right?

That’s what matters.

“I didn’t really know what to make for you and I’m not really good at, like... wristwear. But I customised matching watches I had lying around from last year, so you can be tacky and match with a loved one. And there’s another music box in there. It’s for Noel.”

The music box he’d started on almost immediately after hearing the news. It wasn’t anything too big or ornate - it was for an as-yet-unborn baby, after all. It was soft and round, almost like a pillow that opened like a clam shell. When opened, it played a lullaby and a little night time scene Lyn had spent so much time perfecting rotated, with a moon that changed phases and stars that twinkled. “If I had more time I’d have put you in the scene, so it looks a bit generic right now but... yeah. I hope you like it.”

Christmas Present Meme

Lyn was definitely getting socks again this year, Miles had decided. It was going to be a new tradition. This year he gets TWO pairs, both wonderful.

The fact that the man crafted jewelry and wooden trinkets got Miles thinking, so he picks up some wood crafting tools- and some finger and thumb guards too. He even tests them our, whittling a little wooden mildly duck shaped looking peice of wood.

“Y’can look at this an’ feel even better about yer own work!”

aw my dude, i’m so sorry <3 I’ve seen a few ways to unmark blogs as explicit but I’m not sure how exactly

<3 I tried but they didn’t work at all. The blogs just kept reverting back to explicit. This is so stupid. I flagged my own blog before this all happened to stop people using safe mode seeing any smut. Kids should have all been on safe mode, and anyone who didn’t want to see it had safe mode on, and everything nsfw is normally behind a cut. Now because I was trying to be responsible I’m pretty much locked out of interacting with people, since they can’t access my blogs. Honestly, this was exactly what I thought was going to happen - people who have always tried to blog responsibly being punished because tumblr staff don’t want to actually do their job properly. Thanks, tumblr. Forgive my rant, friend =___=
