domowens:
Despite the provocation, Dominic ended up just giving a singular understanding nod. He knew, when originally returning from abroad he had walked around Wilmington like he was toeing thin ice. Most people would just tell him they heard news about his mother, others would lament how they couldn’t believe Dom had left Naomi to pick up the piece of the Owens family ( he’d briskly amend that they did have two older brothers – though, no one seemed to accept that as an excuse ). So, of all people, he wouldn’t be the one now to sit and pester Ophelia for not sending out some kind of ‘alert to the press’ that she was back.
“That’s good. I was half expecting some not entirely human creature to sit down across from me.” The brunette teased, a hand sliding to grasp for his own steaming cup of coffee. “New? Some boring attempts to become a real adult. Steady job at Star News, bought a car. A Subaru Crosstrek. Go ahead and get your jokes out now.” Grinning over the porcelain of his cup, he gave an intentional beat for O to poke fun of what was admittedly a bit of a Soccer Mom vehicle. “It’s not like I could put a car seat on my moped.”
A genuine laugh actually escaped the girls lips at his comment. “No, no. I decided to shower and actually look somewhat decent. Don’t want people thinking you’re getting attacked by a wild animal.” Messing with the hair tie on her wrist, Ophelia quickly moved her hair up into a bun and raised a brow at his next comment. “Well, all you’re missing is two kids in the back and white picket fence.” The next words out of his mouth almost passed right by the woman, but when it finally clicked her head shot up.
“Wait..a car seat, am I missing something?” She asked quickly, leaning forward. “I mean I know the whole we have to be adult thing now, but you’re having an actual baby?” It wasn’t coming out as rude, just shocked. It was interesting how much was missed when she was gone for the last 10 years. “If you are congrats..that’s a great thing.”
