i'm tired. i'm so tired of fighting. i'm so tired of holding onto the anger and the pain. but what else do i have left to hold onto?
@evie-el-diablo sent; She watched him from inside of her space vehicle, tempted to walk inside the house, but considering the way they'd left things, she wasn't in the mood for more arguing. More pestering. More him trying to get her to stay. Truthfully, she didn't even know why she was here. What was she doing here? If she didn't intend to go inside, what the fuck was she still doing here, holding onto the past. She leaned back in her seat, turned the key into the ignition, and drove off into the stars, trying to find some distant planet she could crash on and maybe get into some trouble just to feel something. Anything. Anything other than the pain that tore her apart every time she looked at Rick. Or, that's what she would have done, but instead her feet worked on their own and stepped out of the vehicle, advancing towards the open garage and taking a seat in his chair. She sunk low, defeated. What the hell. What the fuck was she doing here? El Diablo didn't have time to play around with trivial bullshit like "love." ( For Rick, obv. >:D I AM BACK WITH ANGST. )
For a moment, Rick left the garage. He only just went to the kitchen to grab a beer. Which lead to him getting distracted by finishing the whole bottle and grabbing another. A repetition of most nights. That's all he did these days: work in the garage, get drunk, and pass out on the concrete floor.
With the third bottle of beer, he finally felt as if it were time to head back towards the garage. He didn't notice anything unusual as he approached the door, turning the knob, and stepping over the threshold.
Blue eyes widened, fingers loosened around the neck of the bottle. He almost lost it all in that moment. As the familiar figure brought him to a stand still, every memory from the past years flooded into the forefront of his mind.
Yet, it didn't last long. He could already taste the bitterness, heart constricting with pain, muscles burning with every emotion that he pushed away.
Taking a swig from his drink, he sauntered over towards her. His feet stopped just before and he looked down at her. If someone didn't know better, they would think he was pissed. The only give away being the sparkle of something in his eye; relieve, sadness.
"So, uh, wh-what're you doing here?" He let his arm dangle beside him, the bottle swinging a little bit. "Thought -- thought y-you were busy in space or i-in different dimensions, doing assassinations or some shit like that."
She tensed slightly when the door opened, but she didn't move. Not even when she could feel the silence in the room lingering like a gunshot wound when he noticeably paused at the sight of her.
She heard him walking over to her, felt the drunken heat radiating off of his skin as he stood over her. She knew he was pissed. Just as much as he was heartbroken. He had every right to be. So, then, why was she here?
Wasn't she only causing more pain for him? Wasn't she just ruining him more than he's already ruined himself? Why was she here? She heard him questioning the same thing, yet she couldn't answer him either. She couldn't look at him, couldn't speak to him. She was just so tired.
She struggled to get the words out, but in the end all she ended up doing was releasing a shaky breath and leaning her head on his workbench. From the outside looking in, it'd look like she'd just dozed off to sleep. But, she wasn't sleeping. She was drowning.
*staggers out of a random building covered in blood* ayo the pizza's here.
@evie-el-diablo sent; "You're impossible, you know that?" Her voice quaked with oncoming tears, though her eyes, while downcast, remained void. Leaning all her body weight against the doorway, she tried to think of an easier, much smarter way she could have snuck past him. She couldn't, but did she want to? Did she want him to see her? Was she really always the one running away from him and him chasing her or did she like the chase, this game they played? Was this a game? El Diablo is more fit for games than love, so, perhaps? "Why are you always chasing me?" She knew the answer, so why did she ask with such pain in her voice? Why did she care? She didn't. She killed Ricks like this for breakfast. El Diablo doesn't care. But, Eve... Eve did... And, who was Eve if not simply yet another variant of Diane Sanchez? Right. This wasn't true love. It was an irrational attachment meant to distract her from her revenge. So, why, then...? Why was she crying? She didn't feel anything, let alone sadness. So, why? "Why are you looking at me like that? Get mad at me, curse me out, tell me you don't care about me anymore, SOMETHING other than this." A moment of silence passed between them. "Please. Stop this." What was she doing? El Diablo didn't beg. Because El Diablo didn't care. / For Rick. (Haha I'm back with ANGST. >:D)
Standing there with a metaphorical bleeding heart, Rick lost all sense of who he was. He wasn't the smartest man in the universe who didn't give a shit about anyone or anything but himself. Not in that moment. He was Rick Sanchez; desperate husband to get his wife to come home and finally work on this marriage that needed it so much.
And with each coming question, hitting him like tiny rocks. Only adding to the pain he felt deep in his chest and stomach. He took one step back. Then another.
"Because I-I fucking love you," There wasn't any harsh grasp in those words. Not as he meant it to. Instead, a broken voice and a silent plea. "Evie, I-I love you."
He couldn't fight back. After everything that's happened between them, there wasn't any heat within himself to do so. Just the longing for something nice. Something secure.
To him, this wasn't irrational. She may have been a variant of Diane, but he didn't see that. She was Eve. She was his wife.
Swallowing that pride of his, he let out a deep, tired sigh. "Listen, I-I'm going to ask this once. And only once; do you want this to work or not? I'm tired. Tired of chasing, tired of wanting you to love me. I-If you don't want what I've been trying to give you, then fine, w-we'll get a divorce. J-Just give me an answer."
And another long pause. "D-Do you want to end this or what?"
“Love? What, like how you ‘love’ your Mortys or your Beths? We’re just interdimensional versions of the life you never got to have. How could you love me when in reality if there was another Diane standing in front of you right now, you’d hesitate. You’d hesitate because you wouldn’t know if the feelings you have for me are authentic or if they’re just programed into you, like how mine are programed into me. That’s the fate of us. These emotions, these feelings, these promises, they’re just cogs in the interdimensional machine of Ricks and Dianes who never got to live this life. We’re just a possibility of what could have been. I’m just a possibility. I’m just a “what could have been.” I never got to live the life I wanted with my Rick and my daughter, either. But, unlike you, I’m not indulging in self-pity and trying to run away from the pain by entertaining an alternate version of my husband and daughter. I’m fighting for the life that was stolen from me. And I won’t let you stand in my way anymore. How can you end something that never started? The only way to ‘end’ a fantasy is to wake up. So, wake yourself up.”
Was what she wanted to say. But, she didn’t. Because she didn’t really want to say any of that to him. She didn’t want to wrongfully project onto him. To turn her self hatred into hatred for him. Because, she didn’t hate him. How could she? El Diablo probably did, but Eve? God, Eve loved him. Eve loved him more than words could say, more than her fingers could pull the trigger, more than her lips could kiss his tears away, more than her fists could fight for him and dig him out of his dark pit whenever he needed her. Eve loved Rick more than she could stand to live another day. But, for some reason, all she could enunciate was the hatred she felt towards herself. Why? Why couldn’t she wake up out from this? She didn’t know, but suddenly her feet were moving on their own.
Not out the door, but back into the house, back to him. Into his arms she melted, and without giving him the chance to either push her away or pull her closer, she lifted her head and wordlessly kissed his lips. The kiss was long, as if she was terrified of letting him go. The kiss was tender, as if she were too exhausted from being strong and stoic and invincible and softness was all she had left to offer. The kiss was passionate, as if she had grown numb to acting like she hated him, like she never wanted to see him again, and the only thing that could bring feeling back to her skin was the touch of his lips on hers. The kiss was real. And, then it was over. “I....” Her lips were moving on their own, but her mind was in a comatose stillness. “I just want you.”
just got out of the hospital today. been in and out of the hospital lately for the past few months. i’m too exhausted mentally and physically to explain any further BUT like this if you want Eve in your inbox.
@evie-el-diablo
The lights are off in the garage as Rick’s head rested on the counter in his garage. His appearance that of being asleep. A present wrapped up perfectly with greens and reds adorning it with a note next to it. ‘Evie, For you -Rick.’ It wrote. Unfortunately, the gift would be too close to him. Even the slightest hand could wake him.
Having spent most of the evening distancing herself from Rick, she hadn’t even noticed he’d disappeared. Nor did she care, seeing as how El Diablo didn’t care for love nor family. Although, that fact would find itself to be contradictory, considering she’d spend the night with her interdimensional grandkids, daughter, and son-in-law for the majority of the evening. Every now and then, however, she’d be lying if she said she didn’t feel this emptiness despite being with them all. Well, not all. And that was precisely the problem, gnawing away at her relentlessly.
She only needed to see him. To look at him. Then this feeling would go away. Thus, she advanced towards the garage. Opening the door, she stared at him through the doorway. There, that was it, she thought to herself. But, that wasn’t it. The feeling only deepened, stabbed her mercilessly. Her feet moved on their own, sauntering over to his supposedly sleeping form. Reaching out a hand, one would think she was reaching for the box that had her name on it, painfully obviously a present for her, from him. And, while, yes that did pique her interest ever so slightly, that wasn’t what she was reaching for.
In actuality, she reached for his hand which held the box, moreso his fingers, and gently intertwined them with hers. She held their fingers like that for what must have been around thirty minutes now. Then she straightened her posture, put her El Diablo mask back on, so tightly that it choked her, and she left through a blood-red portal conjured up by her portal gun.

She stared, emotionless, at the mistletoe between the two of them. “Hm.” Her voice, a monochromatic tone. “Looks like Morty and Summer were behind this.” Saying it as if it were an off-handed comment, she shrugged and proceeded into the house, ignoring the mistletoe and Rick altogether, whom it may have seemed as though he didn’t even exist to the assassin. | @advnterccs {Based on the Christmas present thingy we just talked about like 10 seconds ago}
At this point, Rick isn’t bothered. He didn’t even expect to be acknowledged, not even a kiss from the aforementioned mistletoe between them. Instead, letting her in and closing the door behind her. “Yeah, hey, I-I know shit between us isn’t great, but I can’t keep hanging onto this forever.” From his pocket, he pulled out a small red box with a matching bow on top.
In truth, she hadn’t known what prompted her to turn her head to peek at whatever it was Rick was holding. In truth, she hadn’t known what prompted that tiny speck of light buried beneath the hollow emptiness that was her very being to bring fourth an incandescent glow in the form of a curious glimmer in her eyes as she felt herself turning completely to face him. Still, she kept her distance. Still, El Diablo kept her heart safe. And El Diablo doesn’t care about anything, except her revenge. But, if that was true, then... “And what is that, exactly?”

Almost immediately she sneered, avoiding eye contact despite the feeling of his eyes burning into her enveloping her whole. What kind of question was that? What was there to say? She intended for him to never even know she was here, and yet she let herself be found out. She foolishly let her guard down, let her El Diablo mask slip down, and this was the result. Regardless, she turned her head towards him to face him, her eyes souless and full with loss of humanity.
She squinted those dead eyes, “Which Rick are you again?”
Despite the anger Rick, so much, wanted to hold onto, he couldn’t. It diminished the moment she spoke back to him. If only the rest of his mannerisms would catch on, but they didn’t. He glared at her. A rock in his throat that made it hard for him to speak, pushing it down to force out his next words.
“Really? Th-That’s the best you can come up with,” His brow raised ever so slightly. His voice unusually quiet. As if he wanted to be softer than he presented himself to be. “C-137, the husband that you left for two years, we fight, we make-up, y-you know, the usual shit?”
Just being in this same space as him, though they stood several feet apart, she still felt suffocated, heavy. As if the sheer dreadfulness of having to bear the sight of him being so hurt by her was overpowering her. But, El Diablo spoke for her.
She spat out a heartless laugh but her eyes weren't shining in amusement. In fact, they were brimming with tears. "Husband? El Diablo doesn't settle down. She destroys, she breaks, she demolishes. She doesn't make up with any of her enemies, most certainly not a Rick. I don't know what you think you mean to me, but let me make this perfectly clear. You are nothing but a pitiful old man who's so weak he blames his failures on alternate versions of himself. You are a worthless little spec of dirt in the multiverse. You are nothing to me."
Her mouth continued to move, she wanted to stop but she couldn't. "You are nothing more than an empty shell of someone who wasn't even worth the time of day. You're collateral damage."
evie-el-diablo·:
Silence befell her as her shoulders sagged slightly. Hm. He never let her wear his lab coat. But, no matter. El Diablo was a trained, assassin of the multiverse, more specifically, the Central Finite Curve, and she wouldn’t let something as trivial as a Rick stop her in her tracks. She had another kill to get to.

Eyes caught onto her, Rick’s stomach dropped. Although the look on his face spoke otherwise. He wouldn’t allow her to see how he truly felt. Never mind the earlier action, his focus was on Eve now. As it always was when he saw her, the push and pull of their relationship always lured him in.
“You have something to say?”
Almost immediately she sneered, avoiding eye contact despite the feeling of his eyes burning into her enveloping her whole. What kind of question was that? What was there to say? She stood from afar, far away enough to where she couldn’t be spotted even by him. Watching as he conversed with others she’d never seen before, a blank stare engulfed the C-137 version of her long-dead husband yards away from her.
Yet a small, blink-and-you’d-miss-it smile rose upon her cheeks and an even smaller laugh huffed out of her. To say she agreed with him would be an understatement, even after so long being apart from one another. It was comforting to see he hadn’t completely crashed and burned without her. It was comforting to see that he’d moved on. Comforting? Yeah, that was the word she was going with to mask whatever this feeling was. Just as quickly as she arrived, she disappeared into one of her signature blood-red portals conjured up by her portal gun.
About to go on another tangent, Rick felt eyes on him. By the time he looked, he didn’t see anything. Something felt oddly familiar about it. It left him cold, yet, yearning for something inside his chest that he hadn’t felt in about two years.
Though, there was no trace of anyone there. His heart sank wondering if it was her. If she came back to see him. He doubted it. The idea almost laughable. At least, in the most sarcastic way possible.
Instead of thinking anything more about it, he continued on talking to anyone else that could ease the trouble in his mind. Anything to make him forget, for the moment, about her.

@evie-el-diablo sent; 💭 + The possibility of Eve being in the same dimension as them right now as we speak? / Rick and Morty 👀 (Messy relationship drama is Rick and Eve's brand at this point and then there's Morty: their exhausted and drained marriage counselor 😭)
With a feigned anger, Rick began. "Do you think I give a shit if she was in the same dimension? A-After two fucking years, without a call or any sign that she still cares, it's clear that she doesn't. Otherwise I-I wouldn't be standing here and wondering where she was. If she's even alive," The harshness to his words were forced. He wanted to be mad. To lash out, but he couldn't. Though; if by chance, she somehow heard, he could use this as an excuse to push her away.
"I'm at a point in my life where I don't need this kind of shit, I-I'm getting moderately healthier, I'm trying not to be the asshole I used to be, but if she wants to continue playing games like we're back in high school. FINE. L-Let her do whatever the fuck she wants. I'll miss her, yeah, probably won't move on like she expects me to, but that's the fucking thing with love. You don't get to choose who you love a-and you certainly don't get to choose how shit ends up."
The words flowed out of his mouth in a nonstop motion. A mixture of harsh highs and softer tones laced through-out. An example of everything he felt inside. No matter how hard he tried to control it, it seeped through him.
Morty sighed. His heart ached hearing what Rick said. Each word felt on behalf of his grandma Eve. The emotions hitting hard in empathy for his grandpa. "I-It's not fair -- It - It really isn't. I get it, if she's scared to see Rick, scared to continue wh-wh-whatever they had, but Rick's right,"
He looked down at his hands. "H-He's changed, he's getting somewhat healthy. Y-You know, after the whole two crows bit, I think he really wants to. So, m-maybe their relationship has a chance, if she's around, if she decides to come back."
Maybe it was wishful thinking on his part, but he really hoped that she was overhearing the conversation. So, he continued on, as if she was.
"D-Don't listen to Rick, he's hurt a-and it's -- y-you know -- normal for him to lash out, but if he were to see you, h-he wouldn't be mad. I promise. I-I've seen it for myself, the way he cries for you. So, please, g-give him a chance."
“You bet your fucking ass I was god damn sexy in my 30s, I was the lead guitarist in a band.”
She stood from afar, far away enough to where she couldn’t be spotted even by him. Watching as he conversed with others she’d never seen before, a blank stare engulfed the C-137 version of her long-dead husband yards away from her.
