Call me Igor, I don't give a fuck what you call me just," its her hands now that have nowhere to go, nothing to pummel, nothing to do besides be thrown up in the air in exasperation. Keeping her cool had long since been out of the question, not after Nik's reply, not after hearing him act so flippant about the matter at hand. If there was a word more deep than livid, more rounded out than egregious and more relentless than rage, she would feel it now. It wasn't fair that it was aimed at him, she knew that, but if he was so uncaring about the whole thing then maybe he wouldn't care that her next words were aimed to pierce.

"So, if we're both just stuck in here bloody purgatory, you think I'm going to accept a poor man's," the next words a bad impression of him, very nasally, almost whiney, "'what do you want me to say' right now? You're daft but you're not a complete and utter idiot. You're the lunatic if you think that I'll accept that response from you. We have a duty of care to uphold." But what kind of response did she expect from him? What did she expect from him afterall in the first place? Adya looks at him, someone she has deep professional respect for but the personal has long since gone. Maybe, she had hoped, that with these revelations a bridge could be gapped between them -- one that was so between her and everyone other person in her life as she was stuck in this purgatory. She was.

The next words are said carefully, a hint of vulnerability through the rage that had coated her monologue before. "Don't you have people you're lying to right now? Avoiding?" Besides me. So yes, Dr. Mehra, I don't accept this," a hand motion to his presence, circular and sharp, "display. Not when I know --" they stop there, because what they did they know? They knew that they were one of those people. Who did care about them. Even when not obvious, even if buried deep underneath resentment, frustration, inexplicable annoyance -- the mirror that Nik provided to their soul was as easy to stare at as it was hard to stomach. In this place, they had been the truest friend they had.

You'll  be  miserable  if  you  keep  this  shit  up.  The  words  echo  through  Ivy's  brain,  the  radiant  smile  on  their  lips  dimming  as  they  listen.  Rory  may  or  may  not  have  known  how  close  to  the  truth  they  were,  Ivy  unable  to  reply  as  they  take  off  the  puffer  coat  off  their  body,  revealing  a  tie  dye  t-shirt,  damp  but  not  soaked  through.  It's  with  the  final  question  they  know  they're  caught,  unable  to  avoid  it,  unable  to  brush  it  off  like  they  do  so  much  of  their  daily  discomfort.  To  be  faced  with  Rory  now,  hugs  and  all,  is  to  be  faced  with  the  truth.  To  share  that  they've  been  back,  for  a  long  time,  with  no  end  in  sight.  Ivy's  hands  play  with  the  coat's  corners,  "uhhhhh,  I've  been  here."  It's  admitting  defeat,  they  no  longer  look  at  Rory  with  interest,  overly  concerned  with  how  to  store  this  puffer  coat  on  their  person.

"Yeah,  um,  I've  been  here...now…"  a  face  is  made,  exaggerated,  as  if  they  didn't  know  how  long  they'd  been  back  &  bound  in  their  hometown.  Abandoned  California,  the  fog  of  San  Francisco  and  the  trails  of  Yosemite,  for  this.  "Gosh,  ten  years?"  Fuck,  a  decade.  An  actual  decade.  “And  you?”  They  question,  looking  over  at  their  companion  now,  heaviness  at  expecting  an  answer  whether  it  was  good  or  bad.  Good  to  know  that  Rory  maybe  has  escaped  Fernley,  bad  to  know  that  they  were  never  going  to  themselves,  that  potential  commiseration  would  ensue  for  their  possibly  shared  circumstances.  Misery  did  love  company.  "Don't  tell  me  you've  been  trapped  here  a  fucking  decade  and  we  just  crossed  paths  again  now."

"Soooo,"  the  untouched  drink  melts  away  as  Adya  plays  with  it's  straw,  a  finger  nervous  though  the  rest  of  her  body  is  not.  For  now,  the  familiar  feeling  of  being  wrung  out  from  work,  tired  beyond  belief,  was  welcome.  Being  so  wound  up  within  the  walls  of  Fernley  General  was  doing  a  number  on  her.  They  couldn't  help  it,  though  they  were  distracted  now.  "Has  work  been  the  seventh  ring  of  hell  for  you  too?  Please  tell  me  work's  sucked,  I  won't  be  able  to  stand  it  if  I  get  more  confirmation  that  I  picked  the  wrong  profession."  Finally,  she  gulps  her  drink  down,  a  look  of  annoyance  still  her  expression.

"Sorry,  Mins."  A  deep  breath  let  out,  they  may  have  just  needed  to  find  a  rage  room.  "I  saw  something  freaky  at  work.  Like,  properly,  weird."  Of  course,  she  couldn't  mention  the  actual  thing  she'd  seen  but  she  could  regale  the  tale  of  the  Sex  Stuff.  Minnie  would  probably  live  for  that.  "I'll  need  something  stronger  before  getting  into  it  though."

If  there  was  one  thing  that  Fernley  offered,  it  was  it's  array  of  characters  --  even  at  the  grocery  store.  Usually,  it  was  Walmart  that  offered  such  a  display  of  dramatics,  a  lover's  quarrel,  someone  escorted  out  who  was  clearly  not  in  their  right  mind.  Today,  Santiago  peeped  a  man  who  could've  been  a  fed,  really.  He  stood  too  straight,  he  scanned  the  store  like  a  predator  on  the  prowl,  as  Santi's  grocery  list  was  checked  off  one  by  one,  he  couldn't  help  but  give  a  look  over  every  now  and  then  at  the  person  who  seemed  so  out  of  place  --  he  might  as  well  had  set  on  fire.

"Y'know,  you  gotta  tell  me  if  you're  a  cop  when  I  ask.  Pretty  sure  that's  the  law."  A  low  whistle,  a  look  between  the  frozen  green  beans  and  this  stranger  with  an  eyebrow  raise.  "You're  giving  all  sorts  of  fed  right  now  and  I  gotta  know  if  I  gotta  split  before  this  place  gets  raided.  Will  you  let  me  know  that,  at  least?  I  don't  want  my  ice  cream  to  melt  while  you're  booking  John  Doe  and  the  Pussycats."

he  :  miserable  .  fucking  miserable  .  nose  to  the  flesh  of  her  neck  ,  almost  daring  her  to  disappear  from  him  .  where  her  hand  explored  him  ,  so  he  returns  the  favour  .  practised  ,  more  calluses  than  the  last  time  ,  more  bitten  nails  and  scarring  on  the  wrists  ,  a  burn  on  the  tattoo  on  the  opposite  arm  andi  has  worked  on  .  new  ink  to  peruse  ,  new  stories  to  be  told  ,  and  yet  ,  the  words  he  craves  the  most  are  the  ones  that  her  body  writes  for  him.  (  he  should  leave  .  he  shouldn't  be  —  he  doesn't  care  .  )  “  that  kinda  vow  sounds  like  you're  about  to  haul  my  ass  to  the  chapel  …  sora  .  ”  voice  breaks  ,  waves  crashing  against  her  name  .“  but  i'm  too  much  a  sinner  .  i'll  burn  alive  .  ”  not  even  vampire  ,  not  even  allergic  to  garlic  .  his  mind  hums  ,  white  -  noise  when  he  finds  that  notch  of  her  jawline  ,  when  he  carefully  licks  there  .  he  stood  outside  for  her  service  .  he  ran  .  now  ,  he  splays  the  breadth  of  his  hands  to  her  stomach  ,  touching  her  skin  in  soft  circles  ,  waiting  ,  watching  her  for  that  distinct  quirk  of  her  brow  ,  the  tremble  of  her  breath  .  when  he  gets  it  —  he  smirks  .  “  it's  your  fault  i'm  this  ugly  ,  ugly  thing  .  ” hooks  the  pad  of  his  thumb  to  her  jaw  ,  pointer  finger  to  her  chin  .  bends  his  head  to  kiss  her  full  on  the  mouth  ,  a  choked  off  noise  of  want  immediate  in  his  throat  .  his  own  brows  furrow  ,  as  though  it's  more  than  one  kiss  ,  and  yet  much  pours  into  it  .  the  soft  ,  unashamed  whine  ,  when  he  slants  his  mouth  ,  when  he  flicks  his  tongue  to  part  her  lips  .  lets  it  deepen  ,  lets  the  dark  be  soft  ,  hardened  only  with  desire  .  his  shoulders  roll  against  her  hands  ,  and  death  would  not  dare  look  her  way  to  have  her  now  .  possession  surges  a  torturous  ,  ochre  liquid  through  his  blood  ,  pulse  whirring  in  his  head  .  “  you  could  be  anybody's  too  .  you're  so  …  beautiful  .  ” feels  blown  -  out  ,  wide  -  eyed  despite  how  heavy  his  gaze  is  .  he  trails  those  kisses  from  her  mouth  down  and  along  her  neck  ,  and  he  nests  there  ,  biting  down  against  where  her  pulse  would  still  beat  ,  firm  to  cup  her  face  .  his  other  hand  slips  further  up  her  chest  ,  finds  the  swell  of  supple  flesh  which  spills  out  against  her  bra  .  he  slides  past  it  entirely  to  grip  her  ,  a  flick  of  his  thumb  and  then  soothing  circles  to  her  nipple  ,  and  at  the  same  time  ,  he  presses  the  sharp  indents  of  his  canines  to  her  neck  .  a  gasp  escapes  ,  as  if  she  has  bitten  him  instead  .  feels  clumsy  ,  almost  out  of  practise  .  almost  shy  .  the  humidity  beads  sweat  at  his  temples  ,  makes  his  collar  stick  to  his  neck  ,  his  own  jeans  too  tight  .  “  do  you  feel  this  ?  ”  husky  .  he  buries  his  nose  to  the  crook  of  her  shoulder  ,  breathes  her  in  .  his  hand  falls  from  her  jawline  ,  peels  her  collar  aside  ,  and  he  bites  ,  reddened  petal  -  marks  to  the  line  of  her  shoulder  ,  all  the  way  to  the  cap  .  he  finds  her  mouth  .  releases  her  collar  ,  finds  the  button  of  her  jeans  .  massages  her  chest  ,  then  changes  tactics  :  with  her  jeans  unbuttoned  ,  he  pushes  her  shirt  up  ,  and  replaces  soothing  thumb  with  aggravating  flicks  of  his  tongue  ,  hand  then  cupping  and  tending  the  other  .  lets  this  speak  for  him  .  lets  this  be  fucking  felt  .

"Break  the  vow,  break  me,  don't  break  yourself."  It's  something  she  means,  a  selfless  offer  only  given  to  a  few  in  her  life  who  deserved  it.  As  it  stood,  only  he  would  could  get  that  right.  The  comment  is  said  in  between  sighs,  the  building  of  actually  feeling  this  encounter  threatening  to  overcome  her.  It  breaks  her  heart  in  the  same  beat  that  he  is  now  repairing  it,  how  she  aches  to  do  the  same.  How  she  vows  to  do  the  same.  How  she  thwarted  death  to  piece  them  back  together.  As  they  move  towards  the  tree,  her  nails  dig  into  the  patches  of  skin  her  hands  laid  themselves,  a  test  to  see  if  she  could  mark  his  body  the  very  way  he  seemed  frightened  to  do  to  her  until  the  sinking  of  his  teeth  that  garners  another  husky  breath.  When  he  bites  her  in  return,  a  part  of  her  wants  him  to  rip  the  flesh,  to  break  skin  and  have  her  bleed  --  though  she  knows  she  is  not  capable.  To  replace  the  memory  of  her  being  ripped  apart  with  his  mouth  on  her  shoulder,  if  only  this  was  how  she  died,  how  could  he  think  that  she  would  care  if  he  hurt  her  then?  It's  hard  for  her  to  respond  to  anything  he  says  then  though  she  tries.  It  will  fall  short,  she  thinks,  but  she  tries  and  knows  her  body  will  pick  up  the  slack.

"I've  no  doubt  you  could  keep  your  vow  to  me  but  if  you're  a  sinner  then  make  me  your  hell.  If  you  burn,  I'll  burn  with  you."  Oh,  she  was  burning  now,  at  the  pyre  of  their  desire,  this  tree  their  kindling.  So  many  words  said  to  her  and  yet  they  fall  away  at  his  touch.  His  lips  feel  as  if  they  are  reanimating  the  skin,  alight  with  desperate  want.  How  was  she  to  reply  with  words  when  her  body,  the  real  ugly  ghostly  transparent  thing  he  speaks  of,  reacts  for  her?  It  does  not  feel  then  like  she  is  a  phantom  or  some  ghost  story,  that  she  is  tragedy  in  jeans,  that  she  is  an  obituary  of  someone  who  should  be  in  the  ground.  At  him  saying  her  name  --  she  is  Sora.

"Could  you  hurt  a  ghost?  Really,  Soobin,  how  could  you  hurt  me  now?"  Even  the  thudding  against  the  tree  does  nothing  for  her  non-corporeal  body,  nothing  she  couldn't  choose  to  feel.  She  could  imagine  the  scraping  of  the  tree,  hone  in  on  the  prickly  splinters  coating  her  back  but  now  she  realizes  she  can  choose  what  she  does  feel  more  or  less.  More  or  less  in  the  sense  that  there  is  no  less  consuming  feeling  of  Soobin  as  he  strokes  and  strums  her  body,  as  he  makes  quick  work  of  dispelling  her  bra,  the  nipples  peaked  at  his  calloused  finger  tips  and  palms,  the  texture  new,  a  feeling  welcome,  a  reminder  that  too  much  time  has  passed  since  their  forms  have  welcomed  each  other  home.  Once  again,  her  body  chooses  him.  It's  an  easy  choice  to  make,  she  finds,  not  really  a  choice  at  all.  How  could  he  doubt  this  truth,  that  she  could  not  hide  even  in  death?  Even  in  a  new  flesh,  a  new  skin,  barely  hers  and  half  belonging  to  Death?

"And  I'm  yours."  Gasped  as  fiercely  as  she  could  manage,  if  anything  is  to  be  said,  it  is  that,  it  will  be  time  and  time  again.  No  matter  how  much  she  must  recite,  it  is  easy  because  it's  true.  The  absolute  truth.  To  be  cradled  by  the  earth  once  more,  the  sharp  bark  may  not  draw  blood  but  it  would  be  felt  and  she  hopes  her  body  is  felt  by  his  just  the  same.

For  the  pain  expressed  it  has  faded  to  oblivion,  her  form  becoming  more  whole  underneath  his  touches,  each  gasp  warming  her  from  the  inside  out  --  this  litmus  test  of  feeling  to  her  is  not  only  felt  but  devoured.  Enjoyed.  Transcendant.  The  hands  called  home,  more  weathered  than  before  feels  adventurous.  Sora  cannot  help  but  react  to  his  kiss  in  wanting,  melding  her  mouth  to  his  as  if  she  was  the  monster  he  described.  For  this  sentiment  she  has  always  understood  and  even  more  so  --  she  would  hope  that  if  her  death  would  come  again  it  would  be  under  his  hands,  his  newly  sharpened  teeth,  his  monstrous  longing  turned  into  murder  --  though  Sora  could  not  actually  a  imagine  a  world  in  which  he  could  hurt  her  in  that  way.  They  are  lucky,  because  they'll  never  have  to  find  out.  How  lucky  to  be  a  ghost  when  your  boyfriend  is  worried  about  his  nature  killing  you,  she  thinks,  maybe  the  first  time  she  is  grateful  that  in  this  regard  she  has  the  upper  hand.

There  is  no  holding  back  from  her,  she  whines  in  return  to  his  mouth  not  being  on  hers  until  it  is  on  her  body  again  barely  seconds  have  separated  the  action.  It's  hard  to  believe  then  that  she  is  not  her  old  skin,  that  this  is  not  them  a  year  later,  a  year  seasoned  in  life  and  not  in  death.  It  was  about  time  she  thinks,  with  his  hand  on  her  nipple,  now  his  mouth  at  the  base  of  pelvis.  Hauling  him  to  the  chapel  she  wishes  to  do  indeed,  maybe  then  he'd  understood  now  how  bound  she  already  was.  Splayed  body  on  a  tree,  letting  anyone  see  them,  was  this  not  a  vow  in  itself?  How  many  times  had  this  vow  been  said  between  them?

There  are  flashes  of  the  past  in  his  touch,  oh  so  felt,  the  firsts  and  the  lasts.  The  places  they've  been  in  tangled  tandem,  the  kisses  turned  into  wanting  turned  into  more,  the  places  they'd  been,  the  touches  shared  over  years  feel  like  an  amalgamation  of  this  very  moment.  It's  again  like  clockwork  as  she  pushes  her  jeans  down,  pulling  at  the  collar  of  his  shirt  to  come  off  too.  "I  need  to  see  you  too."  He  was  not  getting  out  of  this  clothed,  that  much  was  sure,  if  his  hands  felt  this  way  then  what  would  the  view  be  from  where  she  was  now.  No  shirt?  Frankly,  she  wished  she  could  reach  down  then  and  feel  his  jeans,  underneath  not  over,  her  hands  down  them,  feel  his  length  as  he  now  had  her  pinned.  To  see  him  bare,  really.  Yes,  she  had  no  doubt  she  was  the  monster  then,  the  wanting  that  he  claimed  could  kill  them,  would  ravage  him  if  she  had  her  way.  Sora  wondered  then  if  the  roles  were  reversed  would  he  be  the  one  pinned  to  the  tree?  Another  sigh  with  a  grin  released,  her  hands  go  back  to  his  hair,  pulling  his  hair  and  meeting  his  gaze  from  her  navel  to  her  eyes.  “You're  worried  about  a  vow  when  you're  on  your  knees  now?  I'll  haul  your  ass  to  chapel  right  now,  just  like  this.”

strafe  of  the  eyes  ,  twitch  of  the  nose  .  they  bob  up  and  down  with  three  name  man's  squats  ,  the  kind  of  epic  highs  and  lows  only  high  school  football  could  bring  .  the  muscle  in  his  cheek  twitches  into  a  scoff  .  get  a  load  of  this  man  ,  who  the  hell  do  he  think  he  is  anyways?  dani  ,  almost  bereft  to  ask  ,  clears  the  phlegm  from  his  throat  and  chases  after  the  rock  -  hard  sensation  with  his  water  .  no  ,  he  couldn't  say  the  masculine  show  had  him  rock  -  hard  ,  either  ,  but  the  night  was  young  ,  even  if  he  wasn't  .  “  now  who  gave  you  the  right  to  mention  my  damn  knees  in  your  mouth  ?  ”  inquires  he  ,  a  bit  determined  to  be  a  lot  difficult  .  hilariously  ,  he'd  say  it  was  going  well  . “  i  ain't  ever  heard  a  man  offer  references  in  the  real  .  guess  this  means  we'd  best  be  gettin'  lines  of  work  out  the  way  .  at  the  station  ,  that  where  you  spend  your  time  ?  i  won't  guess  what  you  do  ,  i'll  hold  my  breath  'til  you  tell  .  ”  and  he  takes  in  a  large  ,  hurried  breath  ,  as  though  santi  could  blow  the  air  out  the  restaurant  with  a  twiddle  of  his  thumb  and  a  hop  to  skip  to  jump  .  dani  has  seen  much  over  the  years  ,  those  hours  stretching  long  and  all  treacherous  on  the  water  .  makes  a  man  go  mad  with  longing  .  yeah  …  i  know  the  damn  type  ,  alright  .  the  emptiness  in  his  chest  pangs  as  though  he  sins  with  all  three  of  santi's  names  .  “  i  almost  had  five  names  ,  ” off  the  cuff  ,  absentminded  as  he  raises  his  glass  again  .  then  he  opts  to  pick  up  the  menu  ,  acting  through  the  flimsy  plastic  and  stock  cursive  typeface  .  “  i  said  what  i  said  .  i  like  purple  just  fine  .  and  i'll  take  the  tequila  at  the  sunrise  with  the  umbrella  ,  and  most  times  ,  i'll  take  sex  on  the  beach  too  .  ”  delivered  with  a  deadpan  blink  ,  although  another  patron  glances  towards  them  ,  confused  as  to  whether  or  not  he  meant  the  drink  or  the  pastime  .  dani  meant  both  ,  but  he'd  not  clarify  .  he  near  melts  into  his  chair  .  his  chest  twists  up  all  weird  .  “  go'n  .  quit  quizzin'  me  .  give  me  somethin  besides questions , vodka - man . ”

"You  when  you  mentioned  them  weak  knees,  you  need  a  replacement  yet  or  somethin'  are  you  not  that  decrepit?"  Though  some  would  say  the  dramatics  on  Santi's  end  were  too  much  --  he'd  lived  long  enough  to  be  himself.  You  take  it  or  you  leave  it,  it  seemed  Dani  was  taking  it,  their  own  dramatics  even  funnier  (  to  him  )  than  his  own.  Who  held  their  breathe  like  that  as  a  retort?  A  part  of  him  struggles  then,  wanting  to  see  how  long  Dani  would  hold  out,  but  he  decides  against  it.  On  account  of,  "you  keep  holding  your  breathe  like  that  they're  gonna  get  you  in  a  stretcher.  I'll  have  to  tell  the  paramedics  you  were  so  woo-ed  by  my  charm,  it  knocked  the  wind  right  outta  ya,"  another  almost  smile  dances  on  his  lips  though  a  wink  made  its  way  through.  A  quick  wink  meant  to  fluster,  though  if  Santi  was  honest,  he  was  a  bit  more  flustered.  "It  is.  I'm  a  Radio  Station  host  now.  Former  stay  at  home  father  and  house  husband.  Miss  it,  you  know.  And  you?  You  give  off  the  impression  of  an  old  film  critic.  Roger  Ebert  vibes,  as  the  kids  say.  You  got  any  kids?"

There  was  much  more  than  met  the  eye  to  Santi  when  it  came  to  Dani,  he  determines  as  the  almost  smile  that  played  on  his  lips  turns  into  a  grin.  This  was  what  chemistry  felt  like,  even  the  patrons  next  to  them  had  done  a  double  take  at  Dani's  'Sex  on  the  Beach'  comment  could  notice  it.  "Might  be  a  little  rough,  given  the  Fernley  sandy  beaches  aren't  plenty."  He  lets  the  comment  linger  a  bit,  clocking  the  nosey  patron's  scrunched  up  faces,  before  snagging  the  waiter,  ordering  two  Sex  on  the  Beaches  with  extra  umbrellas.  Purple,  if  you  have  them.

"I'll  quit  quizzin'  you  when  you  get  an  A.  Pass  the  class,  you'll  never  get  a  quiz  from  me  again.  How  else  am  I  supposed  to  find  out  about  the  five  names  you  were  almost  given?  Telepathy?  We  both  know  that  shit's  a  crock  of  bull.  "  Though,  Fernley  was  an  odd  place  to  be  --  that  much  was  sure.  Santi  thought  nothing  of  it,  in  fact,  some  would  say  he  should've  thought  more  of  the  phenomena  that  colored  both  the  town  and  its  population.  There  were  some  things  he  was  willing  to  let  lie,  this  was  one  of  them.

"SOOOO,  let  me  get  this  straight,  you  want  my  help  to  hex  this  girl  who  called  your  outfit...mid?"  Dom  does  a  once  over  of  Nilay's  outfit,  it  was  certainly  not  mid,  he  wasn't  entirely  convinced  she  could  ever  do  anything  mid  --  really.  "Or  is  it  deeper  than  that.  I'm  kinda  sensing  it's  deeper  than  that  but  I  don't  usually  dole  out  hexes  for  mid  insults  that  have  no  basis  in  reality."  He  wasn't  used  to  doling  out  magic  at  all,  really,  though  the  last  few  years  had  been  a  change  for  Dominic  to  say  the  least.  The  safety  in  Salem  was  something  he  grew  accustomed  to,  it  took  a  while  to  understand  the  nature  of  what  he'd  always  been.  "Whatever  it  is,  I  got  you.  But  I  gotta  know  what  I'm  going  into."
