saying self-depreciating things like "I'm the worst" and "I'm just a terrible person" during conflict resolution is really counter-productive and kind of manipulative bc it reduces accountability (being shitty is in ur nature therefore you can't control it/people shouldn't expect any more from you) and also forces the other person into a position of either having to agree with a very definitive and very harsh statement, or to comfort you, which turns into them focusing on soothing and supporting you rather than getting a genuine apology
