i’m going to just leave this right here…
Um it’s a tanning lotion?? As in it darkens your skin?? Therefore, normal(whatever your skin tone currently is) to dark(er)???
alwaysbewoke retains their title as biggest retard on tumblr
Normal as the color it currently is to a darker tone. it’s not saying what skin color is normal.
Jesus fucking christ
I’m gonna assume that OP thought “normal” on the bottle referred to light skin. Because y’know, it makes so much sense to think that a) a self tanning lotion would work exactly the same for people with light OR dark skin or b) that someone with DARK skin would need SELF TANNER.
Stay in school, kids.
here’s what makes that above statement profoundly ignorant. “normal” is NOT a color. i’ll say it again “normal” is NOT a color. the definition of tanning is to take someone of lighter or pale skin color and to darken that person. “normal” is NOT a synonym for “light” or “pale.” “normal” means “conforming to a standard; usual, typical, or expected.” if you state this in a whole sentence, this is what it is “for people of normal skin color to dark skin color.” see that? that alone would lead any mildly intelligent human being go…
but looking at this chick’s blog, i can see that i’m not dealing with a mildly intelligent person. mildly would be far far too high because she says “…that someone with dark skin would need self-tanner” as if the label didn’t say right there in front of her face “dark skin” hahahaha! moron. so this is really a lesson for everyone else.
so again “normal” is not a skin color. “normal” is a categorical term used to bucket things that society has deemed to be the acceptable standard relative to everything else. to be more specific, “normal” is a categorical adjective. we can see and understand what things we believe to be “acceptable” and “standard” by the way we form sentences with binary relationships that contrast two things and how within we substitute a categorical adjective for the categorical noun. “light skin” or “pale” would have been the proper adjectives from the proper categorical nouns group because the sentence is a binary comparison for two colors or a spectrum of colors however they substituted in a categorical adjective that is used for bucketing acceptable, more desired features instead.
still all that is just super high level destruction of how languages work in any human society. all you need to know is that the above is called “word choice bias.” word choice bias is what we do when we chose to use certain words to describe certain people, places and/or things and in so doing reveal concious or unconscious biases. imagine if in comparing someone who isn’t deaf to someone who is, i called the non-deaf person “normal.” imagine if in comparing two mass murderers (one white and the other black), i called the white guy a “suspect” but the black guy a “thug.” we use word choice bias everyday and, for black and brown people, it is used against us daily. in ways that is very obvious and in ways that’s very subtle however in all instances a preference is always displayed.
all this being said, when your brain is raised on white supremacist ideology, you don’t give two shits about facts. so again, this is a lesson for everyone else.
Exactly…to say “normal to dark skin” is basically saying dark skin is not normal
