i do think lobbying for data centres over climate goals should be considered a crime against humanity btw
I work in an investment bank, and I always have a bee in my bonnet regarding the Sustainable Climate Goals that the world had avowed to achieve by 2030. It was a greenwashing lie repackaged as a commitment neither the companies nor the country heads ever intended to deliver upon. In this networking event, I had a chance to speak to one of the most senior members of my company, and because I genuinely have been curious about this question all this time, I dared to ask them.
"Despite knowing that there so much influence of AI and its advancements in our daily life, we also know that its use is very environmentally damaging. Is the company investing in anything which counters the negative impacts brought by the AI use?"
Mind you. I'm talking about one of the biggest European banks. They had no good answer. One head says, "since AI has come in, there has not been any active changes in the company's policies. We still have a few green bonds, so there is that. And we cannot stop because our competitors won't."
Our world is going up in flames because these idiots care about nothing but their bottom line. I grew up with a strong belief that humans do not own the environment, we're their stewards. How do these fucking assholes get the right to take over the land, its waters, all of its resources is beyond me. When are we ever going to stop them? Revolution when?
Ok like. Imagine life without ads. You wake up, check your messages across a variety of apps, no ads. You get up and put on the tv while you prep your breakfast, no ads. Maybe you drive somewhere and switch on the radio, no ads. Maybe you drive a long distance, yet somehow, not a single billboard on your path. You pick up a newspaper or magazine to pass the time, no advertisements only articles. You turn on your game console, the home screen is just about your games, no ads to buy more. You open a streaming app, you don't pay extra for no ads, there's just no ads ever.
Think about how much of your time is spent looking at ads. "Download ublock" yeah I know, I have. But that doesn't change that the world is covered with endless advertising. Imagine never seeing that again. How much better our lives would be.
Green + yellow + orange is a highly underrated colour combo

Literally amazing that there’s a predator that goes “mrrp” and you’re allowed to have one in your house

She Walks in Beauty
By Lord Byron
She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that’s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes;
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o’er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express,
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.
And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!
