cayde voices doubt about her survival, even agrees with shiro’s report, but at this point he knows it’s only for show. the issue with the reef awoken was that they were slippery and far more crafty than the vanguard gave them credit for. and mara sov? she was the best of them. there’s no doubt in his mind that somewhere in the world, mara sov still existed. her body might be gone, but that woman was eternal, and he has no doubt that they would be hearing from her and hers again soon.
so he lets the comment pass, only raising part of his metal brow in a showcase of doubt, before letting the moment go.
it would do no good to debate on mara sov’s plans, they could only wait and see what would happen next.
his attention, however, catches at the reply for his report on ana. his optics narrow slightly, first in high-key doubt at the idea of this being a good idea, and then in suspicion of whatever cayde thought was going to happen from this.
in shiro’s eyes, ana digging up her past life could go downhill fast. it was not like clovis bray had been an honorable man, or that his company had been honorable at heart. even without the flashbacks of his own, and cayde’s digging, a part of shiro had always known that they had been used for horrible things by the company. and ana digging into that? there is a large part of him that worried for her should she find out how not-so-great her adopted family had been at it’s core.
was rasputin really worth the possible distress? he didn’t know.
“your digging was different.” different because they hadn’t asked for this. different because he and cayde, they had to know the truth, if only to decide how to deal with the other exos and their memories of deep stone crypt. their lives were different, they had been made hard already, and the knowledge of their sins could no longer weigh them down.
“what if she stumbles into the wrong files, cayde? what if she finds our history in those files?”
his concern was understandable ... && even for a roguish member of the vanguard ... even he could see past his own arrogance for a moment to see what could go wrong.
but that aside ... there was a point to this ... something in the back of that cybernetic head of his ... past all the scrambles of memories both his && not his ... a thought that the moment shiro voiced that specific thought of concern ... allowed the hunter to voice out his own thoughts on the situation at hand.
“ then let it happen shiro. she’ll realise very quickly how horrible bray actually was ... even towards the damn, bitter end. ”
there was a change in his tone ... one that maybe only his scouts ... shiro, quantis ... marcus ... && only so few others have ever attuned their hearing upon ... outside their classed discipline ... maybe only ikora && zavala have heard this tone.
initially the thought may seem that they wish to use this to their advanatage ... but that was never the case ... no. the point at hand was to simply have people uncover the truth ... && if they had a mind close to the chest that held extensive knowledge on the bray family && their exo research ... perhaps their lives could become easier ... no more ... long, slow whispers.
“ four lives, shiro. you’ve lived four lives. me --- ?? i’ve lived six. and think of everything we’ve missed out on in the middle.
i love the guy to pieces, but you don’t wanna see yourself end up like old banshee now, do ya’ --- ?? ”
if there was one thing he was never going to drop ... one thing he physically couldn’t drop ... it was the truth of the exo programme ... should he tell him --- ?? his most trusted of scouts ... a potential successor --- ??
yes.
“ this is for our sake shiro ... we can’t waste it. it’s ... on ... enceladus. ”
