Life Rises Searching through my unposted pictures, planning out my week... when I found this one that has been sitting (edited!) in my files for months.
It's the perfect picture for Easter, and a metaphor found in the spring festivals of cultures around the world. Life, returning green and glorious after the long darkness of winter. Even though the photo was taken late last summer, the same theme runs through it... as this is grass springing forth from a barren rock after the long and unusual drought we suffered last summer.
The progression as I edited and tried different things is interesting... from a lifelike color version to a selective color version, which really made the grasses pop. And then from there to a square format which really brought the grasses into focus.
"Doodles" The patterns in the dirt on the penstock piping caught my eye... I can see the flow patterns from the rain, but what made the scratches?
A view of the falls themselves... It was quite a challenge to bring everything out between the bright sky and the relatively dark conditions in the canyon. And yes, the water was that weird green, which is why I went with monochrome for the image I posted the day before yesterday.
Last weekend Kitsap Photo Guild made a field trip to Snoqualmie Falls, finally getting to process the images. (It’s been a busy week.)
I spotted this poor fellow a little bit ago floating in the water in Oyster Bay. Before the current turned him around and brought him completely into view I thought there was a body in the bay...
I can't help but wonder what the story is and how he came to be in the bay.
Northwest Postard
Found a spot where I had a great view of Mt Rainer... and bonus, the ferry passes by. Even though it’s a stereotypical shot, I couldn’t resist.
Over the weekend, I had an interesting shooting opportunity... to shoot a friend as she was practicing painting En plein air (painting outdoors).
The link goes to a set of six shots.
A gentlemen on the ferry. I have no idea what he was watching or thinking of... but his expression caught my eye.
The Mask - Study 01 A series I've been pondering on for a while, what I can do with this blank mask I found in an art supply store. Some things happened today that got me thinking... and this arrangement popped into my head. I'm not sure where it will go, but I've begun.Comments, ideas, criticism always welcome. :)
Escape We had some water leak from the refrigerator, and the mat by the back door got soaked. I took it outside and draped it over the recycle bin to dry, and water dripping from a corner caught my eye.I've never tried high speed photography before, and it proved to be a bit of a challenge. Still, I think the results are interesting. The second image is cropped into square format just to see the results... I think it’s the better of the two. If you look closely at it, you can see me reflected in the water drop.
I should have posted before, but I hope those who came to see the cosplay photography stay around to see what I else I shoot. Thanks for watching!
Echoes
Every action we take echoes long afterwards.
A friend spray painted something on the lawn... and left behind an afterimage.
I like to go through my archives sometimes and see what can be found... I posted this image back in 2011, and I've always thought it was a good one. With four more years of editing experience (and a better suite of tools), I decided to work with it again. I'm very pleased with the result.
“Watching” Was out geocaching a few weeks back, and caught this little guy watching us wander down the trail.
"Uninvited"
Some folks down the street were having a massive privet hedge removed, and this caught my eye. Once again, glad I never leave home without my camera.
And last but not least... the miscellaneous characters.
