“I agree with you, but it’s a balancing act. Just like most things in our lives.” He shrugs. All things must exist in balance. It was a core philosophy of how they lived. “Like… Well, if I had a choice between lying and giving out the location of a refugee camp, it’d probably be best that I lie. It’s the lesser of two evils, and causes the least harm.” At least, that’s how it had been explained to him. It made sense, he thought. Nobody could be perfect all the time. … Especially not in times like these. Everyone was being pulled in so many different directions. Everyone’s hands were stained. They just had to do the best they could - for themselves, and for everyone else.
“Either way, this is our mission. We’re being lied to right now. Yes, it sounds hypocritical, but I don’t think these people are trying to protect anyone.” He frowns. “It’s not the Separatists’ way.” It never has been. If they were reasonable, this war wouldn’t be happening. Or, at least, it might be easier for the Jedi to take a step back, start negotiations… Just to do their actual jobs. But that wasn’t an option right now. Not when people were being slaughtered like livestock. Once the fighting settled, they could negotiate.
He hoped that happened soon.
“There’s no perfect answer for us - we just have to keep going down the best available path.”
SHE LET HER brows furrow deeply, “ Well, of course. ” she agreed softly. There was a fine line, and she guessed she looked at it through a different view than most. Did she take things too literally? Maybe this war was making her lose sight of certain things. To this, she could admit. It was hard to keep up, and though she wasn’t far too young, she was still young enough for this war, “ Maybe I don’t have all the balancing like I thought I did. ”
RIGHT, NO ONE was perfect. Such a question comes up during stressful times, and it makes her nails dig into her palms. Perhaps, she thought too much. Perhaps, things weren’t what they actually seemed. Even now she could feel nails dig harshly into her calms. Barriss relaxed with a gentle breath. Fingers uncurled from the grip, and to this her palms were grateful for.
“ KEEP GOING WE must then, ” her eyes turned away from the other, “ Sorry, I think I’m just tired. I didn’t mean for such a question to arise, ” Barriss found her strength to look at the male once again. This time she let her facial features relax, and a breath was drawn out, “ The way you speak, I think you would make a great Master someday. ” she wished to bring a bit of a light on the gloom.
