Post-Christmas feels are all around tonight. Something so cheery and warm about the holiday season, like I just never want it to end! Luckily, there’s enough Christmas cookies and pie to go around. Thank goodness for that, eh? So, as I’m currently enjoying some hot tea and cookies as is the after-Christmas Day tradition, what’s YOUR favorite post-Christmas Day tradition?

Well, in Australia, we have Boxing Day on the 26. Which is like Christmas 2.0. The people you work for give you a gift. But after that, probably convincing my self I will never get drunk again before getting completely pissed on New Years Eve.

Oh yeah, I know Boxing Day from my time in England! Except, it mostly revolves around sports there. Lots of football matches and such, which can be fun if that’s your thing! Ah yes, the “I’m never drinking again” comment and then getting blacked out the next night. We’ve all been there.

Football. Rugby. Cricket. All the good stuff haha. But in all seriousness, probably just relaxing and spending time with my sisters and family.

01. London Calling

It took forever but finally, Maddison touched down at Heathrow in London. At two in the morning. She sent a message to Liz, hoping the older actress was still awake. She opened Uber and paid for a ride to Liz’s place. Once she got her luggage in the car, she was off.

Maddison watched the city go by, barely taking anything in. She was exhausted. But even her tiredness was being overpowered by the excitement of seeing Liz again. As they neared the house, a small part of Maddison prepared for the sting. Liz and Avan were such a cute and perfect couple. The Aussie knew it would pain her, seeing them have what it felt like she could not.

But she wasn’t bitter. If anyone deserved the happy ending, it was Liz. The Uber finally pulled up to the house. Maddison got her bags , thanked the driver, and made her way to the front door.

Liz was half asleep on the couch as she waited for Maddison to arrive, curled up with a blanket, a fire roaring in the fireplace. She was in love with the beautiful house she and Avan had, and even moreso in love with London being right outside the front gate of their home. They’d arrived earlier to pouring rain, and as she jumped at a knock on the door, she could hear it still slamming against the windows. If there was one thing she could rely on, it was the weather in the UK.

Stumbling up from the couch, she grabbed her glasses and made her way through the expansive house to the front door, undoing the locks and pulling it open with a smile. Dressed in a long sleeved shirt and pajama pants, her small baby bump was visible as she took in her best friend, knowing she was absolutely exhausted. 

“You’re here!” she yelled, knowing Avan slept like the dead and wouldn’t even move upstairs, her smile broadening as she threw her arms around her friend. “Come in, you’re soaked,” she frowned, grabbing one of her suitcases even though she knew she shouldn’t be touching anything heavy. “How was your flight from hell?” she asked, shutting the door and locking it again once Maddison was inside the warm house.

Maddison beamed and threw her arms around Liz, Squealing. Then she felt the small bump, looked down, looked back up at Liz and started squealing again, jumping up and down.

“YOURE ACTUALLY FUCKING PREGNANT!!!” She laughed as Liz pulled her inside. “Like, I knew you were. But actually seeing it in person is just... ahhh!” She grinned.

At the mention of her flight, Maddison groaned, letting out a long breath. “Well, I had a drunk businessman hit on me all the way to Heathrow. He wasn’t bad looking except one, he smelled like bourbon. Two, he was in his late forties, early fifties.”

Maddison was dangling upside down from a chair, using her carry on as a pillow, scrolling through Instagram. She had been stuck at this Layover for five hours now. As she scrolled past a post from Ally, she got a text from Liz.

Clicking on the notification, Maddison read the message. Liz was already in London and wanted to know where the Aussie was. Maddison sent a quick reply.

“Layover. Probably another hour or so. Soooo Bored. 😒🔫”

She sent the message then tumbled backwards so she was on her butt, facing the seat.

“What country are you in?” she said as she texted back, her eyes traveling out the window as they traveled through the city towards their more residential neighborhood, her forehead against the cool glass. She was flat out exhausted, but pleased to be in London, especially with Avan. He had been stunned by her managing to pull off the house and Liz was pretty pleased with herself as she looked to him, leaning in and giving him a kiss.

“Whenever you’re here there’s a warm and inviting house, I promise,” she said as their Uber pulled up. Avan managed to get all of their things as Liz pulled out the keys, excitedly running up to the front door, eager to finally see the house in person.

It’s Australia, honey. It’s always a drought haha. But lately it’s been super hot and super dry and there’s been brush fires everywhere. So the rain was much needed.

Liz had never been more excited in her life to get on a plane, considering the fact that flying was one of her biggest fears, and combined with morning sickness? It was a disaster. With anxiety medicine in her system as she settled into her seat next to Avan, their little compartments connected, she was glad when she settled into a deep sleep for most of the flight. She woke up when the pilot announced they would be arriving in half an hour, and as she peeked out the window, her excitement grew. 

Descending into Heathrow and getting off the plane, Liz clung to Avan in the busy airport as they got their bearings, heading to baggage claim to get their things. Liz shrugged on her coat and scarf; dressed in leggings and a loose, heavy sweater with a pair of Uggs, her long hair tired in a messy bun and her glasses on, she felt relaxed and under the radar, fitting in with the rest of the world for a change.

Walking outside was a complete contrast to Manhattan. It was warmer, but still with that sharp and biting cold, especially with the ice-cold rain falling - it wouldn’t be London if it wasn’t pouring, but she didn’t mind at all. She was here to have fun with Avan and their friends, and she was going to make it happen. Once  they were in an Uber and on their way to their house, Liz excitedly texted Maddison to see her own status.

I cannot believe Christmas Eve is TOMORROW. Where on earth has the time gone!? How is it CHRISTMAS already!? I mean, I’m currently celebrating my third favorite holiday, which is pretty great when your family is one religion and your boyfriends family is another, and you need a common holiday that ISN’T religious. Am I right? 

Regardless, do any of you have any holiday traditions that you love? One of my favorites is walking around Manhattan looking at the Christmas lights, especially the tree in Rockefeller Center, always.
