āPeople make other people sickā Itās a line frequently used in a book Iām currently reading. Itās not used in the context you might be thinking, such as the flu or a cold. Itās worse.
Have you ever heard someoneās name and immediately rolled your eyes, bitten your nails, or shook your head? Maybe you canāt get out of bed because of that person, they put you on edge and maybe you take it out on the ones you care about, maybe you cry at night because this person has wronged you so bad.
This is the type of sick Iām talking about.
If a person has wronged you, humiliated you, made you feel as if you had no say over your body, then I know how you feel. Iāve been hurt before by friends, we have fought and went our separate ways, but as you grow older you learn that sometimes it was just pety, just youth, just an accident. These are the types of issues you can get over, you will still smile at them in the street, maybe even stop and chat, some of my friends that I fell out with, iāve now reconnected with, and actually enjoy their company; some scars heal. Sometimes you canāt get over it though, what if it wasnāt an accident, and after the first time it happened again, and then again?
Thatās when you become sick.
Itās that moment when you realize whatās going on isnāt right, you stop and revaluate the situation you are in, I even had to ask a friend - āis this right.ā The fact you have to ask should be an answer in itās self.
The thing about this sickness is that itās not always there, you can feel healthy and beautiful for months at a time, but then something reminds you and you feel all the symptoms return. Some times people donāt even think you are sick, some times the people who are meant to heal you, make the disease even stronger by being on their side.
The beauty in this all though is that life is full of choices and although there may not be a way to make your body strong enough to be healthy 100% of the time, you can build your immune system. You can heal yourself almost completely. Eventually, you will hear this persons name, and you wonāt be bed ridden for a week, you wonāt shake as he passes by in a restaurant, you wonāt cry when your drunk.
One day they wonāt make you ill - because you will be too sick of them.
