Airports || Adele/Dave

Adeleâs hand remains on his arm, her fingers tracing smooth patterns and circles on the skin there, listening intently. When Dave mentions his fathers diagnosis, her eyes widen in shock, her mouth opening to spill out her apologies though as he continues talking, her face taking on a myriad of expressions, trying to figure out which one to go with. Sympathy and pity over his father, anger over the fact heâs just blurted out that sheâs the one heâs marrying, or flattery that although it was spur of the moment; that he chose her.
 Her hand moves limply, pointing to her glass as the bartender looks over in her direction in a clear signal for âMOREâ, remaining in silence until the bartender comes over and she takes a long swallow of the drink thinking everything over, processing in her own silent way. Unlike Rachel who tends to be dramatic and burst out with emotion, sheâs always one to process before talking, often taking long pauses to carefully plan her words. Is  the situation ideal? Certainly not, but it could be beneficial to have Dave as her stand in boyfriend for the wedding, no pressure to bring her ex since no-one knew theyâd broken up, her family loved him, and there wouldnât be any lingering awkwardness. Her mind has been made up, and she takes another drink before nodding once and giving a quiet âFineâ, looking up at him, her fingers twining together, picking at a cuticle. ââŠ.So how are we going to pull this off?â
The fact that Adele wasnât freaking out, wasnât panicking, threw him off guard. He would have thought she was going to be a bit more freaked out about things, but it was nice that she wasnât freaking out at the same time. He had always wondered what it would be like to be with someone officially like this, but had honestly never FOUND anyone he really wanted to be with like that. Part of him, in the past, had briefly thought about Adele, he had briefly spent a summer flirting with her, but then that changed quickly, and he had no desire to for quite some time. He nodded to the bartender, signaling that he too wanted another drink, he needed another drink.Â
He was still trying to figure details out, not entirely sure how they would actually make it work. After all, he was sure that neither of them really knew how to be an engaged couple, at least he assumed she had never been engaged. He stayed quiet, trying to think long and hard. âWe go there, keep it on the down, hopefully my dad will keep his mouth closed, and my mom. And then from there we just play the part. Who knows exactly what will happen, but assuming that we just pretend to be engaged, we just hang out, and then separate later? We should probably come up with some kind of story though? Whatâs your ideal engagement? Dream date? How do you think we should have met up?â
