The effing "Junior Hockey Bible" existed for literal DECADES in the bowels of the internet before finally being shut down, but not before parading the absolute filth of hockey culture for the whole world to see. That should tell you all you need to know. I really hate the saying "separate the artist from their art" in reference to disgusting, CRIMINAL behavior (Woody Allen, Kevin Spacey, Roman Polanski, Jared Leto, et. al) as a means to minimize or in some cases justify actions.

Mental Illness and Language Usage

Because I woke up with it running through my head like a herd of elephants…

For any wondering what my whole cross stitch project is about, here is the extended version.

“Oh my god! This song is so triggering!” No it’s not. What’s more, you don’t want it to be. Flash backs are horrendous and frequently terrifying. You’re having a normal emotional reaction, not a paralyzing and very serious medical issue.

“He was acting so bipolar today.” Nope. He was having a bad day. That’s it. Maybe show a little compassion instead of blaming an emotional reaction on a serious medical condition.

“I’m gonna have a panic attack if the day keeps going like this!”. Really? You’re going to have something that can feel almost identical to a heart attack? Your heart is going to race, you’re going to deal with an extreme level fight or flight response? Or are you just stressed?

“This weather is so schizophrenic.” It’s having serious, crippling hallucinations? How does weather hallucinate?

“Dude, you know what they say about crazy chicks.” That they deserve love and to be treated with the same level of respect you’d give to anyone? Is that what they say? Or do they say that because you view them as stereotypes, that they’re just vacuous things you can fuck and throw away?

“It’s just depression. Suck it up.” FUCK YOU, FUCK YOU, FUCK YOU. FUCK YOU! Every single mental illness, every single one, is a physical medical illness, proven time and time again by fmri studies. Our brains are structured and operate differently. Would you tell someone with any other neurological illness to just suck it up? How about someone with Parkinson’s? “Hey, it’s just a debilitating illness. Suck it up.” Fuck you, asshole.

“I’m a little OCD. I can’t stand dirty shoes.” So you became so overwhelmed by anxiety about dirty shoes that you literally cannot do anything until you preform a series of rituals to contend with the anxiety?

“She’s psychotic.” So she’s not all the way in touch with reality and possibly experiencing hallucinations and/or delusions? Or is she just pissed because you were a jackass?

What I am doing with the total series is trying my damnedest to show the world the reality of living with it. The Sticks and Stones series is only one subset of a very large whole. Imagine any of the above statements where a more standard medical illness was used. It would immediately become inflammatory and disgusting. The thing is, they should already be inflammatory and disgusting. Because they ALL minimize very serious medical illnesses that deserve to be treated with the same seriousness and respect that is extended to other conditions.
