Something Peaches and I have talked about before is the fact that we don’t think Silva is gay, and that it’s still a stretch to say he’s flat-out bisexual.

With Silva, it looks to be a little more complicated than that. When he hit on Bond, it was clear that he was using the tactic to unsettle 007, as he immediately switched away from that once he realized that Bond wasn’t having any of that shit. Past that scene, it’s relatively easy to forget that he might swing different ways, since it’s never brought up again and his mannerisms aren’t flamboyant in the exaggerated manner that’s come to be associated with Hollywood Gay. (He is, however, psychotic with a side of mommy issues and a healthy helping of Spanish/Portuguese, all of which combine into a set of very peculiar mannerisms of its own.)

And, ya know, the whole thing with Severine or whatever.

I like what Peaches suggested, that a far more interesting take on that would be that Silva is simply opportunistic and wields sexuality like another weapon, or that he’s attracted to whatever is most useful to him at the time (I’m more of a fan of theory 1, but 2 works too).

I think so often the Portugese/Spanish flair that you’re talking about here is read by those who haven’t encountered it in real life as pinging on the gaydar, but honestly, take a step back and check this guy out. 

He learns, and uses what he learns. He trained in traditional espionage, and used that til it wasn’t working for him any more. Then he picked up cyber espionage (later converting to cyber terrorism when he was no longer working under the crown.)  You mentioned Severine. Take into consideration the backstory for her that Bond supplies us with. Take into account how afraid of Silva she is. And then think about how he learns.

In my mind, it is entirely possible that he learned from Severine’s experiences how best to wield sensuality and sexuality as a weapon. It’s obvious that he employed her for those uses as well, to my mind, based on how she was portrayed when we first met her. 

Like he says, though, he has no room in his life for things or people who have outlived their use. Suggesting that that is what he most values. People with a purpose behind them, people who show promise and potential. 

Severine says, when he wants something, he gets it. He uses any means necessary. This makes him really fucking scary and effective as a villain, because he is ruthless, he’s determined, and he learns. 

Bisexual? Gay? No. I think Silva is Vengeancesexual. And anything that helps him achieve that? Fair game.

I’ve spent two evenings on this (around 8 hours in total) and I’ve had one single song on repeat for the whole process: Florence and the Machines - Seven Devils (I chose to change the word ‘house’ with ‘heart’ as it suited the piece better). Even though I went all out and made demon eyes, you don’t have to take the title literally, as I think it could as well apply to Stiles’ changing nature, his fears, his bad sides, his insecurities. But you decide.
