A Glorious 25th of May to everyone! A loving reminder on this day of Emotions;
Remember that your view of the past is skewed by nostalgia and a desire to return to youthful cluelessness. Don't fall for it.
We often don't appreciate what we have while we have it - therefor make time, because there are no guarantees about the future.
Grief can go from being constant to not quite forgotten to rolling over you in a tsunami. Give yourself grace.
Anger and spite can fuel you for a while, but you also need rest and food or you'll burn yourself out.
Hope is necessary for when anger is no longer enough.
Sometimes the only way to keep the bastards from getting you down is to be the bigger bastard.
Going through hundreds of hours of old video, from back before smart phones were absolutely everywhere... it's crazy how different it was.
The cameras we were filming on were huge and not at all discrete. But people weren't hyper aware of them, most people weren't used to being on video, and no one was giving a second thought about what audio we might be picking up.
It's only been 15ish years, but it's wild how much that has changed.
Once upon a time…
I really wish the overused sentence “You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.” was less relevant but here we are
honestly sometimes there's no better feeling than rereading a fic you've written and coming out of it going, "yeah that actually this DOES slap. exactly what i wanted to read. fucking nailed it."
Bit crazy to find out (literally yesterday) that I live basically on top of a significant site of fandom history, for a fandom that was arguably the most influential of my life. Anyway, I'm going to go film some stuff in Yoshiki's old studio today.
Some people fall back into old fandoms.
Mine come out from the night, from the mists-- shake me down, pull me back in, and offer to pay me.
Forget the DEET spray and the pet friendly oils that make me break out. Discovering that citronella candles come in taper form has been life changing. @portraitoftheoddity got me one of those old timey chambersticks and now I move between rooms like a gothic pulp heroine, romanticizing the fuck out of not getting bit by mosquitos.
"Sewing is a gateway drug to thinking through complex problems. It seems really simple; culturally, we make it women's work. Let me tell you: real sewing at any kind of level of proficiency is a bloody magic trick. Sewing, like mold making, involves mental frames that require one to think inside out and backwards. It requires one to work on an order of operations that is often taking into account the reverse. It's a really, really important skill, and if you learn how to sew, you're mostly on your way to carpentry and welding and sheet metal work. I'm not kidding: these are planar forms meeting under rules and conditions. And if you can make a sleeve work, I swear to God, you could build a house."

more than anything, I want to drink something that tastes like coffee smells.

I've been playing Magic the Gathering for about a year and a half now.
Went to my first prerelease event last night for Secrets of Strixhaven. My packs were not kind at all, no cool pulls and not enough creatures in any of the two color combos, so I had to splash in a third that didn't really synergize well, but I scraped together a deck as best as I could. Kept losing all night, which would have been fine if not for the condescending dudes trying to mansplain deck building, then demanding to see my pool. It was so bad one of them tried to tell me I must have just opened one pack too few. (I had not.) Anyway, super disheartening, I left just feeling like maybe I was terrible at the game, and also super steamed about how the other players were talking down to me.
My boyfriend and I play a game of magic over coffee most mornings. Today, even though Collin had 120 life, I swung at him for a lethal combat round of 241 unblockable damage. Balance has been restored, and I feel a little less like I suck now.
Hit by the sudden urge to completely rewrite the fanfiction I never finished in 2020 as a way to grasp at something certain in uncertain times

You ever start telling a story, then realize you have to back up for context? I've done that so much, I now have 365 years of world building/ history that takes place before the events of the novel I'm writing. Oops?
