The best part of that video is that the owner found the ORIGINAL plush later on the beach and took another video with it after their grandmother stitched it back up

one of the reasons why "what if people went on a road trip and it was weird" is one of the oldest story types is that a lot of sense of personhood has been, historically, tied to place. the weird road trip says "what if we went somewhere else, where no one knows us, and tried out being a different person".
Odysseus, the famous liar, goes on a weird road trip & over the course of it becomes several different people, and then comes home & is all those people as well as himself, wearing the echoes of those other people
What’s that quote? There are only two kinds of stories: a man goes on a journey, or a stranger comes to town.

Work in Progress Wednesday
How to play:
Save the banner below (or create your own - or just do text!) and use it for your own post.
Share something that you're working on. A draft, a snippet, an idea you're currently vibing with. Give the people a peek behind the curtain. AND/OR
Share a work in progress from someone else that you're excited about. Talk about what you're looking forward to or hoping for. Give the creator a shout out or a pep talk. AND/OR
Tell a creator directly that you love their WIP and why you love it - either in a comment or an ask or in tags on a post.
BONUS: share a prompt that you're never going to fill yourself (for whatever reason) and tell folks to run with it.
Have fun!
DNI if you've ever:
Been to Greenland
Been to Denver
Buried treasure in St. Louis (or St. Paul for that matter)
Been to Moscow
Been to Tampa
Been to Boston (only if you went during the fall, though)
Hoisted a mainstay
Swabbed a poop deck
Veered to starboard
You know what just DNI if you've ever sailed at all
Walked a gangplank
Owned a parrot (I shouldn't have to explain this one)
Been to Boston in the fall (cannot overstate this)
Okay, but what if I've never plucked a rooster and I'm not too good at ping-pong, and I've never thrown my mashed potatoes up against the wall, and I've never kissed a chipmunk and I've never gotten head lice, and I've never been to Boston in the fall?
You're safe
But what if I've never licked a spark plug, and I've never sniffed a stink bug, and I've never painted daisies on a big red rubber ball, and I've never bathed in yogurt, and I don't look good in leggings?
But have you been to Boston in the fall?
kitty perfect weight for picking up for cuddles! kitty very Soft and warm and will purr comfortably in your arms. Pick up kitty. no problems ever when picking up kitty because good weight and size for picking up after surgery.
It's nice that loud noises don't stick to clothes like smells do. That would be really bad if they did.

Wait, wait… lemme go get my favorite Jonny Sims quote real quick…
WHAT IS THE POINT OF INVENTING FAKE PEOPLE IF YOU CAN'T GIVE THEM TRAUMA?
say what you will about the reserve bank of india these are some cracking coins
A lot of people genuinely believe that permanent disability isn't a thing that happens to good people who work hard and make responsible choices. A lot of people genuinely think that we get the life we work for and deserve. And this is definitely part of the explanation for why ableism is so prevalent
oh and when i was a year old, after i got my foot amputated my parents were pushing me around in a stroller at a street festival in miami and i was chewing on my foot or whatever and this street performer came up to us and was like “aw i bet that tastes good!!” and my dad was like “yeah look at what she did to the other one!!!!” and pulled back the blanket covering my left leg to show a stump with a huge scar on it and i’m pretty sure my dad terrified that poor man
A friend of ours worked in a movie theater. One night, a rowdy little boy decided to kick over all the stands that held up the red velvet cords.
After several attempt to stop him, she finally declared, “If you keep kicking those over, your leg will fall off!”
No sooner had she said this than she looked up and was mortified to notice a man standing on a pair of crutches with one leg.
Before she could apologize, he looked down at the boy and sighed, “I used to love to kick those.”
The kid ran away.
personally I am of the opinion that vegans who are like “the way our food system currently works under capitalism on a large scale is exceptionally cruel to all animals including humans and is not sustainable, so I’m doing what I can to make the most ethical choices available to me about what I eat and encourage others to do the same” are generally very reasonable people who I agree with in spades. but vegans who seem to think human beings are not themselves animals who are ultimately also part of the food chain but instead some kind of other paternalistic higher entity that can never engage in ethical and sustainable hunting practices (and especially the fringe I’ve seen who think other carnivorous animal predators are also evil and need to be eliminated) are people I regard as foolish at best if not actively anti-indigenous and racist
