Apples - Ahhhh They’re Too Cute
Time to look at another Fantendo game. Apples is a game that combines platforming, puzzle solving, and RPG gameplay.
So the story is that Darknes abducts almost all of the Booes and Shus. And it’s up to Yonenbooe and friends to rescue them. It’s not a complex story at all, but I guess it’s excusable considering that this game is designed to be like a kid’s game.
One thing I really like about this game is it’s art style, I really like how every character looks like a plush toy. The only problem I have with them is that most of the main characters look almost identical. The only differences being that they’re slightly different colors.
As for the music, it’s ehh… not very good to be honest. They’re mainly just random notes with no real melody to them. The only exception being the main theme which is really good and actually sounds like something you’d expect from this game.
So Apples is not that bad of a game idea despite it’s flaws. There’s also a few sequels as well as a kart racing spinoff, so maybe I’ll take a look at those sometime in the future.
Darmanitan Slam - Poké Kong Country Returns
I don’t have much to say about this one because it’s literally just Donkey Kong Country Returns but with Pokemon. Now that doesn’t sound that bad at first, I mean there could be some original ideas that were never in DKCR. But everything about this game just screams lazy. The character personalities are the same, the story is the same, the gameplay is the same. There’s just so much wasted potential here.
After looking around a bit, I found out that there’s a sequel to this. Unfortunately it hardly improves upon the original. However, unlike the first one it actually has an original story, albeit hardly any different from the first game’s story. I’m not going to review this one in detail because it has almost all of the same problems that the first game has.
New Super Mario Bros. Omega - What NSMBU Should’ve Been
New Super Mario Bros. Omega is yet another fan game that really makes me wish Nintendo would use fan ideas (well, not all of them, obviously as you’ll see why later).
Anyway, as indicated by the title, it’s a New Super Mario Bros. game and it’s one of the best ones I’ve seen so far on Fantendo.
So the story is pretty much what you’d expect from every Mario game, Peach gets kidnapped and Mario, Luigi, and two Toads have to rescue her. Wario and Waluigi’s money gets stolen and they have to retrieve it. Oh, and Sonic gets involved in this somehow.
The gameplay is exactly the same as the rest of the NSMB games, but this time Yoshi plays more like he does in Yoshi’s Island where he can throw eggs. They also now have different strengths and weaknesses depending on their color. There’s even an online mode which is something sorely missed in most Nintendo games.
The arts are a mixed bag. Some of them look decent such as these two:
Panser, an enemy from Super Mario Bros. 2.
Bumpty the penguin from Yoshi’s Island, this particular artwork of him is the only decent looking one on the site.
While some of them look like this:
Vortex Bro. He’s supposed to be throwing a tornado but honestly it looks more like Cranky Kong’s beard.
Boom Boom. I understand that this art was made before Nintendo made a new render of him in SM3DL, but it still looks really awkward.
And then there’s this:
Which is somehow part of the image hall of fame.
It’s certainly exceptional but not in quality.
Final thoughts: I really like this game idea. NSMBO adds a lot of depth to a rather stale series. While I like most of the ideas, I don’t like how the Sonic characters are heavily shoehorned in. They don’t serve any purpose in the story. Other than that, this really isn’t that bad of a fan game idea.
Woofbot and Meowbot: Robots to the Rescue - At Least They Tried
Just looking at the cover art, I can already tell that I’m in for a really good time.
So Woofbot and Meowbot is basically an RPG where Woofbot and the stereotipically feminine Meowbot rescue their owners which look like knockoff Super Mario characters.
First off, the plot, well there’s hardly anything that can actually be called a plot. The plot is really generic, it relies entirely on cliches such as making dark versions of the heroes and hypnotizing. However, the main problem is that there’s so many plot holes and questions. Woofbot and Meowbot’s owners went missing but how did they not notice what happened to them? Why did Coloura hypnotize Willy and Jen? Even the ending is really confusing.
As for the gameplay, there’s nothing describing it other than it’s an RPG.
There’s a single ‘screenshot’ but that doesn’t really help describe it either.
Overall, Woofbot and Meowbot is a game that tries to be ambitious but is just a sloppy mess of overused cliches.
Bomb Frenzy - Mind Blowingly Awesome
Bomb Frenzy is one of those games on Fantendo that really makes me wish Nintendo would make fan game ideas into actual games. Well, they already kinda did this with Super Mario Maker.
Anyway, the story is that Bombell and his best friend, booster, have to rescue the Mushroom Kingdom from the evil Shadem. It’s your typical Saturday morning cartoon plot, but it’s not really that bad. One thing that this game does that most other Fantendo games don’t do is provide a backstory for the characters.
The gameplay, well, I can’t really describe it that well. It’s a puzzle game and those are very difficult to describe without any images. From what I can tell it seems to be similar to Puyo Puyo.
As for the artwork,
I actually like it. The art style kind of a mix of both Mario and Kirby’s art styles and it works really well.
And that’s all I have to say about this. I really hope the creator of this series decides to continue it someday.
Sonic the Hedgehog & Mega Man: Hyper Heroes was a cancelled video game developed by BlueSky Software for Sega of America. Intended to lead Sega's Christmas 1994 lineup, this ground-breaking collaboration between Sega and Capcom was to be released for Sega CD, Sega Genesis,Sega Master System, and Sega Game Gear. Disagreement between Sega and Capcom on development and licensing led to the game's demise. The development of Hyper Heroes started as Sega and Capcom grew successful during the early...
It’s not often I do shout-outs, but this is really impressive to me in that it made me think there was some sort of truth here. I checked if it came from another source via Google and it doesn’t seem so. All the off-site links and the logical development reasons make it seem really plausible (as if it was copied from another source) and it's really well done. Really good work.

Hey, the ending's up! The golden is age is finally over.

for a brief period of time, you can ask unten and zerita questions to advance the narrative. do this shamelessly-plugging author a favor and get on that pronto.
this guy.
A redesign of absolutely nothing, made for this thing over there.
All jokes aside, for the blog I just linked to, I really wanted to redesign this now-forgotten character. I made him more raccoon-like and his gimmick an egg collector (or something like that). After all, raccoons do eat eggs, and seeing its name, it's a nice bonus. This new YE Nook also got a (ripped) trash bag cape instead of an apron, and for some reason, a Yoshi Egg is printed on it.
Hope ya like this one, Tucker!
