OTHARD NATIVE: Raiden was born and raised within the small rice farming village known as Yanxia, growing rice along with the rest of the village inhabitants. As he grew up, he would become familiar with the waters of the Ruby Sea and even the vibrant city port of Kugane. He has yet to venture to the Azim Steppe, despite hearing a good number of tales about the place. If your character is also a native of Othard or just happens to reside within the continent, then it is entirely possible for Raiden to run into them somehow.

WAR VETERAN: In addition to being a simply rice farmer, Raiden had also fought in the war to free Doma from Garlean oppression alongside his late father and brother. He would end up losing both of them to the Empire, making the him the only surviving member of his family their deaths would not be in vain as his homeland would finally see freedom’s light in the end. 

SHINOBI ARTS: At the age of nine, the young Raiden would go on to learn the secret art of Ninjutsu as well as all of the other vital techniques. Espionage, Sabotage, Arson, Infiltration, Guerrilla Warfare and Assassination; all of these skills were used in service of his nation against the Garlean Empire. And to this day, he still uses his arts in service of Doma and her people. If your character also has shinobi background, whether they be friend or foe, I’d love to us to chat about how they would meet up!

AVID TRAVELER: Raiden also likes to spend time in Eorzea, venturing about the land and seeing what it has to offer. He really enjoys spending time discovering any of the more scenic places within the realm. So far, his favorite place to travel toward is the region of La Noscea, which also happens to be home of his favorite tavern, The Hidden Pearl; which is where he would more likely be if one were to ever run into him.

The Lingering Aftermath (Part 3)

Mai turned in her sleep. The depths of slumber seemed to allude her every reach for it’s clutch. A scene continued to replay itself within her thoughts, within her dreams over and over. She could still feel her blade entering the bandit’s body, puncturing through flesh and muscle. She could still hear the breath escaping him and how it seemed like his entire body just froze at that instant. Did time stop somehow? No, she knew it didn’t but that was what it felt like.

And then there were the eyes staring at her. Accusing her. Judging her.

Mai’s eyes leaped open while she laid curled in a ball in the bed of her inn room. The nightmare was nothing new since the encounter on the open road. She had understood what her friend, the Daiymo Hide, had spoken when she accepted his wisdom and experience. She had understood what her sister, Synaia, had said and even her mother. Her actions were honorable and the death was in protection of others and herself yet still she felt the weight of the death upon her like iron chains wrapped around her body.

“But without the chance to live, the chance to see the next day, I stole from that man the chance a redemption!” Mai had argued to Synaia one evening who wouldn’t hear a word of such talk.

“We are speaking of a man who attacked a family with children and spoke openly of causing you harm to his mere enjoyment? Just making sure I understand because this smell worse than a pile of chocobo dung. If want proof there is a pile outside I’m certain so take a fucking whiff.

"The little shit got what he deserved, Mai. It’s simple like that. I know it’s hard and I really didn’t want you alone when that moment came but it did. You did the right thing. You will learn some don’t want redemption. Some leave you no choice. In those moments you must act. You must decide swiftly. You must leave no quarter. To do so is folly and foolishness and I swear by Rhalgr if you get yourself killed behind that kind heart of yours I will find you in the after planes, stalk you and kill you again my damned self twice over!”

A soft smile came to Mai remembering the threat that she knew came from the love the two woman have grown. Synaia was from Ala Mhiga, conscripted into the Garlean ranks until Mai’s father gave her a new path. She was Mai’s opposite in so many ways yet their bond was a sisterhood that wasn’t defined by blood. Mai knew that the words spoken reflected the way Synaia showed her feelings since caring for another had proven something new to the Ala Mhigan.

Mai slid out of the bed and stretched her frame. Her ribs had finally healed fully from the fight with the bandits. She had broken a few of them but now she felt more herself once more. The sound of the patter of raindrops upon the inn caught her attention and a brief smile came to her again. Grabbing some light clothing, tossing it on, she ran out her room and past the innkeeper who startled at her movement. Soon she was outside opening her palms to let the drops fall upon her skin.

She felt the solitude around her. Felt the blanket the rain made upon her body and she closed her eyes. In this element she let the pain bubble to the surface. She let the grief seep through. She let the sorrow touch her heart. And there, beneath those raindrops falling upon her she let her knees crumple to the ground and her head bow. She let the tears run like they had yearned for freedom but no sound came from her. They were silent tears that mingled with the rain drops but they made good their escape. Her hanging arms would wrap around her body one time to hug herself before falling free again.

And she let the sorrow go. She spoke in her mind knowing she would do the same thing again if a similar situation rose. Did she take pride in removing a life from this realm? No. Not at all. She cried for a man who would rather have violated her own soul. One that would have harmed and killed innocent people. A man who lost his way and knew nothing better.

So there, in the rain, Mai cried for him. She cried for his pain. His sadness. His grief. His chaos. She cried because even as a man who would stand across her he was still a person. He is still someone who was once born a babe in this world and full of innocence and seeking love and attention while seasons passed. The path was lost but the spirit remained and she cried for it.

Finally, grief slipping away with the sadness and the memory of the first person she had ever killed fading to the recesses of her thoughts, she began to rise. Then, with no mirth to it, she smiled and did what she did when alone. She knew eyes could peer from houses or someone could witness but right now she did not care.

For Mai danced while the ran pelted her and the ground beneath her feet. She twirled, she stepped, and she let her body not just go through the motions but feel them too. Her release of the pain was seeping free with every movement, every step. She would be free of it. She would be Mai Takeda once more and be stronger for what she endured. She had to be for her father and brother had set the path.

Now she had to walk the path while forging it into her own with the honor the bearer of the Sword of the Takeda could possible do.

Hatamoto samurai of the Fujiwara - If you are a member of Hingan society, you may have heard of Fujiwara hiring a previously unknown samurai who’s since become known for her prowess in combat and military leadership.

Noble Circle, Dishonored - If you are a Doman or Hingan Noble/Samurai you probably heard or know of the dishonored Gozen family and that a rival clan supposedly burned down their home, killing the last Gozen heir who -according to local folklore- later returned from the grave as a vengeful ogre.

Barfly - Frequents the Kugane Hostelry and other bars to enjoy fine drinks with friends, though she does go alone from time to time.

If your character is Hingan, they may have heard of Kaito Gozen, a notable sensei who spent a time instructing at the Sekiseigumi, but was later stripped of his status for defying the Shogun.  He spoke often of his daughter.

Undefeated Duelist -  Ichi has a growing reputation as an undefeated duelist samurai.  Since returning to Hingashi, she has not been defeated in combat, where she is known as “Sakura of the Underworld”.

You may have heard of the Butcher of Oniyama Pass.  A Fujiwara samurai who led a small group of soldiers to a crushing and violent victory over Garlean forces at Oniyama Pass in Othard.

what I’m looking for ––––

Eastern/ Othard based RP, but I’m happy to RP anywhere as long as I have a reason. Organically developed RP and ties.

Romance-wise, my character has little interest in those she doesn’t consider her piers in combat or leadership.  While she’s open to romance, I’m not looking for spontaneous ERP.  Just meaningful relationships, please.  Whatever happens next, happens.

I’m always looking to develop my writing and flesh out Ichi, so I’m happy to participate in combat and events that are considered engaging and fun, as long as I have a reason to be there.   I’m completely open to pre-established ties with other characters as long as we chat about how we met.  My character’s traveled around quite a bit, so it’s not impossible we’ve met.

Ambushed

After they passed through Namai, the weather gradually turns bad and it would continue to rain for days as the supply column move slogging through the valley of Yanxia and through the Rainbow Valley. Several landslides would create a detour for the convoy. The somber mood, however, is tempered by the discipline of the samurai escorting the supply, even the Ashigaru as tired they are, keep their gaze forward.

After all, if their lord does not even complain about this harsh weather and long journey then they dare not bring shame upon themselves by complaining about their situation. On the seventh day of their journey, Hideyuki held council with the leaders of the escort units.

“….My lord, at this rate we have two paths to take. We can follow the One river until we reach the crossings towards the Enclave through the gate of the moon. However, with the river flooded the banks and the strong winds…we are not sure how long we will be held on the shore” “The second path will take us through the Gensui Chain where the path is the most stable, however, if we take this path it will require us several more detour and may take twice as long even more.”

Hideyuki cross his arms behind his back, watching the map. Taking the Gunbai (Military Fan) he points towards a mountainous area that encircles towards the Enclave

“What about the Oniyama pass? I recall the path have shortcuts that can save as many days and we will exit the pass to the west of the enclave. From there, even with bad weather, we will be able to arrive on schedule or even earlier” “There are people that await these supplies, what would be the use of our journey if we arrive with rotten grain and blackened rice?” The officers look at each other “But my lord…the pass is…cursed…they said the spirit of the dead forever haunt that place”

Hideyuki looks annoyed as he hit his Tekko with the Gunbai, making a resounding song

“Are you not Hatamoto of the Shogun? one of the bravest souls and warriors this land of Othard ever known? are you to bring shame to the Shogun’s mission by delivering useless supplies?”

The retainers look at each other and nod slowly “As you commanded, my lord.”

Hideyuki nods, the irritated look slowly disappears from his face “We stop by the remnant of Matsue castle, the ancestral home of the Ginko…i have a business to take care and it is on our travel path. The council is dismissed, get yourself some warm meals and rest. Make sure the sentry posted in rotation as usual”

He stands up and walks towards his tent, checking on the linkpearl again and only static can be heard.

“I hope everything is fine back home,” he says as he proceeds to enter his tent and get some rest.

The journey afterward was still somber, Hideyuki stopped by Matsue castle ground and enters the burial tomb. To the priest who lived there, he asks the tomb of Hotaru’s mother. 

“Tsubaki San, i offer you a prayer in place of your daughter. She is safe and under my care. Please be at peace, next time i will bring Hotaru to pray”

After offering prayer and making sure her grave is cleaned and taken care of, the convoy proceed towards Oniyama pass. The few Ashigaru of the Gokenin rank and lower starts to show sign of unrest…they said Oniyama (demon mountain) in ancient time has a cave that leads to the underworld…and that demons and other ghosts roam the pass at night.

The afternoon of the ninth day, under light rain and occasional thunder the column move slowly through the Oniyama pass. Whispering and murmur along the forest to the left side and the right side a sheer cliff makes everyone tense.

The sound of a lark sounded several times through the journey until Hideyuki halt the column.

“Something is suspicious over here, there was no animal sound but that Lark…oh no!!” as the knowledge dawn upon his face, large boulders start to tumble down the cliff

“SEPARATE THE COLUMN, FRONT FORWARD. GUARD THE SUPPLY AND DESTROY ANY OPPOSITION. EVERYONE ELSE, WITH ME!”

He draws his Katana and shouts his warcry. Followed in unison by the others. From the trees, fireballs and arrows were hurled. The situation turns to a chaos but through maneuvering, the casualty so far has been kept to a minimum to moderate.

“PUSH FORWARD! ONCE WE GET OUT OF THIS PASS THE DOMA GARRISON IS NEAR!” everywhere the sound of battles clamors.

Hideyuki deflects many arrows and had to abandon his horse who got blasted by a large fireball.

A tight circle of Samurai encircles him, making sure he is safe.

“My lord! report from the forward column ! they have cleared the way !”

He nods, biting his lips he issues the command “All remaining forces with me. We will hold them here while the supply column proceed”

The fight goes on for hours until the last supply cart that survived the ambush disappeared from sight. Hideyuki then shout “Orderly retreat! form box form-”

He feels pain blooms from his side as an arrow feather sprung. Followed with another and a stone spell hurled towards him knocked off his helmet

The last thing he remembers is talking to Hotaru and laughing at her. Another one flashes, a pair of beautiful green eyes under the moon,  a feeling of warm lips on his own…the sakura pendant feels colds under his armor. 

He can barely hear the guards shout for him, waving away the banners signaling for retreat.

From the path forward…. the sound of the landslide can be heard…as the way through the pass is blocked by rubbles…
