Everybody wants Hak.
thxnderbeast:
Oh, he definitely had a beer too much.
Hak didn’t even remember how he made his way from the happy hungry bunch’s quarters to those of the current king of Kouka, but somehow… he ended up here. It was probably one of the most dangerous situations he’d gotten himself in during the last couple of months.
“ I know. ‘n I’m just about on m’ way out. “ That being said he tried to push himself out of the doorframe and swayed…
“You came here to tell me something like that?” Well that was unexpected. The moment Soo-Won recapped this whole situation, a cold shiver ran down his spine. Hak probably just had wasted the possibility to kill him ... and nobody would have been able to save him. But instead Hak just came to mutter compliments?
“Stay.” His lips were faster than his mind and for a second he cursed himself for not calling the guards. But then there was this feeling again. The emotion of deep regret. “You’re in no condition to wander through the castle”, Soo-Won added, following his former friend and grabbing his arm with a serious expression.
“Oh, Ao no!” Yona grabbed the squirrel before she bit off a strand of Soo-Won’s hair. “I’m sorry, she’s too excited about the new place and the new food. But I didn’t think she would like your hair so much…”
Eyes widened in confusion Soo-Won glared at the squirrel. He didn’t see that coming. Without taking a step back, he faced Yona and brought himself to smile.
“Looks like it. You should ... feed her probably to avoid attacks like that.” The Kind couldn’t even say where he took his sportive attitude from now.
redlineoffate:
Hak blinked in surprise. It was something new. Soo-Won talked to him and did not try to run away or send him somewhere. This reminded him of those good old days when they were friends and King Il was alive. If everything had turned out differently…
“Nothing important, except for the fact that the dragons get bored and they are unhappy that they can not see the princess. None of us are happy with this.”
For the first time in a long time, Hak looked into Soo-Won’s eyes without threat or anger. Rather tired and not understanding what was happening. He missed Yona so much.
“I understand.” Without moving any further Soo-Won eyed his former friend up and the look on his face changed. Suddenly he seemed dejected, tired and off-colour. Averting Hak’s gaze, he groaned and rubbed the back of his head.
“Guess, there’s no help. There are things that can’t be changed for now.” Trying to avoid any further eye contact, he stepped through his rooms towards the door.
“I’m surprised you got in here. What do you expect me to do?” Leaning against the wall, he closed his lids for a moment. It was hard enough to not show anyone in the palace his physical condition. Hak was the last person he needed now.
“Do you think the moon is jealous of how pretty you are?” (he's drunk.)
Soo-Won woke up as he heard the babbling voice echoing through his rooms. He gazed at his friend before getting out of bed in an instant.
“Hak, what are you ... doing here? Do you know what time it is?” He didn’t just ...?

“This is not my business, I am a simple soldier of not the strongest company … But you look too pale. I hope you did not intend to kill yourself while working without rest? It will be a pity.”
Being hunched over a lot of documents, Soo-Won winced due to the sudden voice next to him and his heart almost jumped out of his chest. Eyes widened he starred at Hak and let out a sigh realizing he forgot to breathe for a second.
„Good heavens! More likely I’ll die from a heart attack“, he moaned with a reproachful look on his face. Soo-Won tilted his head back, before carefully moving it in circles. A quiet cracking sound … and he grimaced.
„You may be right.“ He only noticed his headache when getting up. „There’s so much to do I forgot the time, I guess. Did I miss something?“
thxnderbeast:
Either the night wind or Soo-Won’s words made him shiver; he didn’t know which. Factum est, the blonde might’ve had a couple of points. Hak didn’t like it, but at least he was calm enough again to really take in the things he said.
Slowly he untightened his grip and let his arms fall to his sides.
“ I guess there are no answers that would make me anything near happy. Maybe you’re right and I am still pathetically clinging to whatever I thought we once had. Which is total and utter bullshit, because even if we had anything, it obviously wasn’t enough. “ Once he’d bitten his tongue off rather than spit out those words. Sentiments, pah.
“ It’s pathetic. I’m pathetic “, he repeated , “ for still having that one ounce of trust in you. Because even if you betrayed everything we wanted to be, I’m still not able to let go. I wanted to - but I can’t. So if there’s any fragment of decency left in you, you’ll tell me to fuck off now and let me make peace with this desaster that’s our- I don’t even know what this is. “ Powerless he gestured between them. He really… didn’t have enough energy for this anymore. It ate away at him for the past couple of years and he just couldn’t bear with it any longer.
“ Or you finally drop it - and let me see the real you again. “
Nothing more than a whisper.
Soo-Won didn’t answer. Hak’s words were the bitter pill he always knew he’d have to swallow someday. And there it was. For a second he knit his brows and tried everything to keep his thoughts to himself. He wanted to scream and let Hak know that he never could forgive himself. That everything they had should’ve been enough. He wished it would have been. Sometimes he found himself pondering about what would have happened if he had refused to follow this fate. But then there had always been his body which remembered him that there would have been no happiness for none of them nonetheless.
„Everything just … would have been even more gruesome. I would have died, seeing both of you crying for my sake and knowing that the country was floating near it’s own collapse“, he suddenly mumbled out of context. A dark shadow flashed over his face. „You want to see it?“, he asked with a desperate undertone and without any warning he drew his sword and attacked his former friend … and lover.
„You want me to drop it and face you?“, he hissed. „Don’t you think you’re unable to face everything yourself?“
@akarxuu
Yona gained a confused look and after a few seconds Soo-Won’s expression changed. Without interrupting her he observed her facial traits. Something had changed. She had changed. Scolding himself for his line of thoughts, he allowed a small and honest smile flashing over his lips. It seemed, as tough as it must have been … the time outside – in the real and cruel world the palace never witnessed – did her good.
„You’ve grown up.“ It was the first thing he brought himself to say even if he’d never dare to tell her how it was kind of his achievement. Soo-Won wouldn’t justify his actions. She was right, there was no excuse for what he did to her. Being honest it hurt how she talked about him as her enemy but it couldn’t be helped.
„Let’s take a walk towards the rosarium, shall we?“ Soo-Won was buying time while digesting her words. Going ahead he took a deep breath and looked at the clear sky above them.
„I never expect you to forgive me. I think … in the end we both were a pawn in the hands of the sky tribe and the intrigues of the royal family.“ He gazed at her in a serious manner. „That’s no apology and there’s no need for you to comment on that. You’re right, Yona. What counts is that very moment and the kingdom itself.“ Narrowing his eyes, he added: „If you consider yourself as my ally, Princess, let me get one thing straight: I have no intention to do an about-face concerning my policies.“ These things said he suddenly was all smiles. „I guess Hak and your dear friends won’t be happy with your decision, will they?“

thxnderbeast:
He could’ve slapped him square in the face and it would probably have had the same effect. Due to sheer power of will he didn’t let go of him.
“ You’re lying. Again. “ Hak inhaled deeply, trying to sort through his thoughts - they wouldn’t get anywhere with this impulsive rage he was displaying. “ You once told me the you I knew was a fake. That I never knew you. Even that was a lie, wasn’t it? Noone could put up such an immense façade at such a young age! When did you start betraying us?! “ When did you start betraying me?
“ I am here to protect my queen. You are the one I want answers from. You owe me “, Hak demanded. His voice held a more reasonable tone now, getting even more quiet with every other word. “ I might not have understood it back then, but I will no longer let you get away with this act. Especially not if the rumors are true… “
“The Hak I knew would have never believed in rumors”, Soo-Won said. Gradually his voice started crumbling just as his facial expression. He tensed up and after a few seconds it felt like he was trembling under Hak’s hands.
“You don’t even know what you’re talking about. I’m not lying.” Narrowing his eyes he almost seemed to be sulky. “Even if you were right and I wasn’t being honest when telling you that ... does it make a difference now?” He just did what he had to do. He couldn’t change his future. Neither in the past nor now. If anything was certain then it was the fact that he would die sooner or later. More likely sooner than later.
“Telling me that I owe you something but beating around the bush yourself. You want to know when I started betraying you?” Soo-Won got his voice under control one more time and pierced Hak with a serious look on his face. “The day I killed your King. Give or take a few days. That’s it. And you know what? You don’t need to believe me cause you never came with the intention of getting answers you would be happy with. Am I right?”
thxnderbeast:
Straightening his posture, he pointedly looked away. “ How do I look at whom exactly? “ He definitely didn’t know what he was talking about. Nope.
Without another comment Hak followed Soo-Won towards the gardens.
“ How long will you be staying in Kouka Castle this time? “ It was a rare occurence in and on itself for the blonde to visit them for more than a couple of days. Hak liked having him around; mostly because he distracted Yona from using every possible opportunity to pick on him. Of course only because of that.
Drifting through the arcades Soo-Won let out a hum. He knew it wouldn’t be crowned with success if he tried to drive Hak into a corner. So he dropped the subject at least for a moment to answer the question of the thunder beast.
“Four days starting tomorrow.” Glancing over his shoulder, he peered at Hak. “Why do you ask? Do you miss me just yet?” He took the steps to one of the out backs where no guards had been placed.
“It’s hard to find a few minutes without supervision”, Soo-Won mumbled.
thxnderbeast:
Hak needed to move. To do something to channel his energies. He couldn’t afford to just implode with everything going on.
The fact that Soo-Won still seemed to avoid him made nothing easier or better in any way. It just fueled his rage.
“ I want you to keep your word - fulfill your promises instead of hiding away like a coward! “ Three steps, then four and Haks fingers locked around the blonde’s upper arms. Now they were both shaking with his anger.
“ You called yourself my king. You didn’t earn that yet - and I won’t allow you to die before you do! “
It wasn’t the first time Soo-Won witnessed one of Hak’s flashs of anger. So there was no need to be impressed. Nonetheless the former general managed to get his full attention again. The King looked up and stared into the blue eyes which seemed to glow with rage. It took him a few moments to gaze at the hands holding him.
“I never promised anything to you”, he said calmly. “What do you want me to prove? What do I have to do to win you over again? You’re the one who joined my troups.” Without even trying to free his arms he ground his teeth. “What are you even doing here, Hak?”
thxnderbeast:
Yikes. He inhaled sharply, but didn’t let the pain show otherwise. He knew there weren’t any ill intentions.
“ I won’t be able to explain why the princess’ cousin broke his neck while being on my watch. I’ll be okay in a minute “, he pressed. “ Yona would never forgive me. “
Well, she probably wouldn’t forgive him for a couple of other things as well, but that wasn’t the topic at hand. RIght now he was focused on Soo-Won tending to his ankle. “ How are you so good at that? “ Hak didn’t even feel any more pain during his ministrations.
“I would neither if you’re not able to move anymore. I need you safe and sound, Hak. We can’t afford a serious injury, so just stop nagging.” He really was an idiot sometimes, wasn’t he? “Let’s stay here for a while. Sunset’s near and I don’t intend to search for a village in the middle of the night. It would take us hours to reach the next one.”
Soo-Won taped his ankle before storing away the kit. Without waiting for Hak’s opinion he took a few steps further into the forests and bound the horses on a tree. Afterwards he came back to lend Hak a hand and answer his question: “I travel a lot”, he meant. “We often pass small villages that need help. And my mother taught me how to help myself. No big deal.”
