Happy 50th birthday Jeffrey Dean Morgan! (April 22, 1966)
@vegasmarked
âIâm doing everything I can, Alex! But I am not above the law here in Vega. Humans make their own way. I canât interfere.âÂ
âDo not think for a moment I wouldnât spare him if I could!â
âyou have to interfere!â Alex cried. âTheyâre going to kill them! There has to be something you can do!â He knew Michael was hurting, but he was scared, scared that heâd lose his best friend and the angel heâd come to trust as a brother. âThere has to be somethingâŚexile, something! Not execution. Surely theyâd make an exception, how many people has Manakel saved? And Ethan! He didnât do anything wrong.â
âAngel and human relations are forbidden here, Alex. They knew the penalty for breaking that law.âÂ
Michael did too. He was painfully aware of it, in fact.Â
âIâve gone before the council to plead for them. They are more resolute following the Darkness infection than ever. They will not accept an angel sympathizer among them. Nor an angel. That is enough to damn them both in their eyes. They hardly trust me anymore.â
âNot Michael.â Matthew chuckled. âBut. Apples and oranges, I guess. Same difference. Glad to hear youâre holding up though. Donât you have like, a secretary or something? Maybe you should get one of those, man. Youâre gonna burn yourself out at this rate. Metaphorically speaking.â
âMy apologies, Matthew. Itâs a bit⌠taxing at the moment.â His smile was more relaxed. âIâve already gone through five. Reassigned them when I realized they were just slowing my productivity down. Too many cooks and all that.â
âOh man. Thatâs heavy. You know you remind me of a First Sergeant I had once. He was a hard ass, but I tell you what. Some of the best soldiers I ever served with came out of the same tactical courses he taught. He didnât take less than that. Youâll find a good one, Iâm sure. Â . . . You know, this might be a stretch, but have you thought about a human to do it? I mean I know it entails the whole choir and bells and whistles. But it seems like there would be good people out there willing to help. Especially heaven. You might just need to broaden your horizons a bit.â

That, of course, not being what heâd been getting at. But The Archangel was far too old and too tired to protest much beyond that.Â
âTime will tell how your presence will change things. I did not anticipate that you would be so eager to settle in one specific locale, Ciar. There is a question of motive, and I presume you would not fault me in it. What Lucifer has attempted through the corruption of Alexâs markings may be the end of all of us. Or that perhaps it was my fatherâs will that the world be turned over to the Lightbearer.â
âRegardless. It concerns me.â
âMy father screwed wit those tattoos. I doubt that is what God wanted, Alex says he cantâ read them at all now.â Ciar shook his head. âI am ready to do what can be done. And still run errands for Vega.â
Michael straitened, now, and levelled a look at Ciar, one that wasnât unkind, but still curious. âSomething happened. Didnât it? Something to change your mind. You may consider Vega your home. But I must know what it was. Tell me, Ciar.â

John stared at his clock growling softly. Sunrise and he hadnât yet been able to sleep. He buried his face in the pillow, grumbling in frustration, hearing Matt moving around in the next room.
Matt assumed John would be sleeping. Which was probably why he was awake; pacing a circle in his room, Â before he finally dropped on the bed near the window and stared wakefully out into the slowly rising morning.Â
Heâd been woken by the sound of gunfire, and with a startled noise of attention, had gone toppling off the edge of the bed, only to realize he wasnât in Iraq at all, Â but a hotel in Kentucky.Â
So much for shitty VA therapy. . Â
Mention of those two other cities made Michael heave a great sigh. All three had their own unique problems. Vega was no different. âThat will suffice, for the moment, or at least that is my hope.âÂ
Pause.Â
Michael wanted to ask. About Gabriel, about Lucifer, about Manakel. It was a spectrum of coexistance-or not-with man, but it didnât stop him from worrying after his brothers.Â
But he didnât. Instead the angel turned, and leaned in the entryway of his terrace, and heaved a sigh.Â
âI would worry for you here, Ciar. Vega is stifling. It is why Alex canât bear to stay in itâs walls; and they will not look kindly on your taking wing, coming and going. Both you and Alex would be well off in a place that allows itâs citizens their freedom.â
Ciar saw the question in his dark eyes and set the empty glass down, following him further into the apartment. âI think it is time Vega changes. What better way to do it than with allowing me to stay here, to help. Most of the people havenât left Vega in decades. Theyâve sealed themselves off from the outside, allowing corruption and paranoia to take over. The ones who rule the Houses donât care about their people.â
He moved to stand beside Michael once more. âI am not Alex, Michael. Your son will return home, but until then. Let us make this a city he will be safe in.â
That, of course, not being what heâd been getting at. But The Archangel was far too old and too tired to protest much beyond that.Â

Or that perhaps it was my fatherâs will that the world be turned over to the Lightbearer.â
âRegardless. It concerns me.â
Michael didnât move. In fact he was as poise and rigid as a statue. âI am The Archangel Michael. And since what I was looking for is no longer here, Iâll be going. In the future I advise against making such assumptions where my siblings are concerned. Not all of them are so forgiving of blasphemy.â
With Michaelâs repudiation of social contract, Ryu retracted his hand. He perked an eyebrow in amusement as a sly smirk danced across his crimson painted lips. âHm. Well, all the other halo bearing creatures whoâve blasphemed in my name were far less rude than you are, Michael. I take it youâre the sibling thatâs never allowed to make the Christmas toast?â
âRudeness is a matter of context. I would venture your own was immediately assuming I was in any way interested in a sexual encounter with you.âÂ
âAny chance you can speed that up? You arenât exactly improving the view here, all messed up like that.â
âNo.â
OKAY WEâRE HERE
//Alright. I have some journal posts to make and junk and then Iâl be back here for replies. :3
Okay guys I really do need to get to bed tho
I LOVE YOU ALL NINI
âHeh. Hi, Zack. No, itâs just little old me. I just wanted to check in  on you and see how you were doing. Everything ok?â
âMichael! No, yes, things are fine! Just trying to keep everyone on task. Otherwise I end up doing everything.â
âNot Michael.â Matthew chuckled. âBut. Apples and oranges, I guess. Same difference. Glad to hear youâre holding up though. Donât you have like, a secretary or something? Maybe you should get one of those, man. Youâre gonna burn yourself out at this rate. Metaphorically speaking.â
âAnd what of your father, Ciar? You donât think he worries after his son also, and desires to have him safe?â
Michael, of course, wasnât speaking of Lucifer.Â
âThere are a great many things that need to change, Ciar. More than anything, it is how we value the lives and peace of our loved ones. Our brothers, sisters⌠fathers and sons. If we are ever to manage to save ourselves-humans and angels alike, that is how it must be done.â
âMy fatherâŚknows I must go my own way.â Ciar said slowly. âLet me help you. This cityâŚit needs to lower itâs walls. Metaphorically speaking. And it has no leader, with Claire gone.â He hesitated, then put a hand on Michaelâs shoulder.
âI will not let you be trapped here. You have been through plenty. Let me help shoulder the burden.â
âYou need a place to call home Ciar. If this is what you want, truly, than I will not refuse you. We need soldiers. Walls will not keep out higher angels,â
Or New Delphi, he thought, which was a very very legitimate concern.Â
âThere is very little remaining for me, Ciar; it is no burden. It is instead a welcome distraction at the moment.âÂ
If only because Gabriel was silent, Alex was in Luciferâs new city with Noma, and every human being in Vega Michael had cherished was now dead. or gone. And even the curtains of that room were hallowed reminders of what heâd lost. Only his mission to protect mankind remained. And he would see it through to whatever end. In his heart, he beleived still that it was what God would want him to do.Â
âBut if it is so for you also, I can not fault you for it.â
12/10 Rahab you scare the piss out of me.Â
